The Beauty Crew tries...the Max Factor Miracle Collection

29 March, 2017 - 11:25pm by - First Lady | 14 Comments

Ok, we're not going to sugar coat it.  We have awesome jobs.  We get to discover and try and talk about beauty products every day.  Seriously.  Every. Single. Day.  You know what we rarely do?  Review them!

Beauty Review as an organisation is independant.  The Beauty Crew on the other hand?  We have opinions.  Lots of opinions.  And we're very excited to start sharing them.

Our first Beauty Crew Review:  The Max Factor Miracle Workers Collection.

4 foundations targeting different age ranges and skin types and a smoothing primer.

Merilyn aka Queenie was assigned the Max Factor Skin Luminizer Miracle Foundation, aka, the Glow Getter.

I was lucky enough to get assigned the Skin Luminizer foundation which is good as I like things all shiny and glossy. I’ll preface this by saying I’m a long standing,  Estee Doublewear gal... and I’m also someone who once I’ve hooked onto something, am almost impossible to move.  So let’s see will illumination take it out over long lasting?

Max Factor's not a brand I would normally gravitate towards, I'm not too sure why this is.  I applied for a job with them like 25 years ago and didn’t get it, but I’m not one for holding grudges so that can’t be it.  It just seems to fly under my radar, although it’s fair to say that when I swanned into Farmers to get colour matched I did get somewhat distracted by all the wonderful products on the stand so there’s a good start.

I selected the Rose Beige colour and I’m happy to report it’s a perfect match for me. The foundation comes in a dinky bottle with a pump action top which I liked as I think it will travel well. I used the Max Factor Smooth Miracle Primer as an undercoat (ha ha undercoat) and just on that I’m love, love, lovin’ the primer, it is amazing!! THIS. PRIMER. IS. AMAZING! It’s not until you use a primer that you realise what a difference it makes, and this one is fan-tab-u-los and it’s equally gorgeous just using it on its own at the weekend.

Anyhoo, back to the foundation. I applied it (over the primer) with a foundation brush. It was really easy to apply and went on evenly giving a light coverage. The bottle promised that it would ‘instantly capture light for a healthy glow’ and yes, I’d say I did look very ‘glowy’, and in fact i’ve had several compliments on my skin since I’ve been using it.

We’ve had the odd hot day over the past 3 weeks and i’ve found if it is really hot it can look slightly too shiny, which is to be expected. However I just dust it down with a light translucent powder and all is good in the hood.

So the burning question - is it going to kick the double wear into touch? You know what? I think it will, it’s a bit lighter for me which I like and I don’t feel like i’ve got a ‘full face on which again I really like.  So all in all…it’s a YES from me!

Kellie our Head Pixie, aka, Pixie-pie, was the lucky lass trying the Max Factor Miracle Match Foundation - the tone enhancer.

Some things just go better together. Like Salt n Vinegar chips with classic Kiwi reduced cream and onion soup mix dip, a dripping French brie smeared on a crusty baguette, and as I’ve discovered over the last week…Max Factor Smooth Miracle Primer with Max Factor Miracle Match Foundation.

It’s fair to say I’m fussy about my primer. When I first tested Max Factor’s Smooth Miracle Primer on the back of my hand, I have to admit I had a bit of a ‘meh’ moment. It’s white and thick, and it did blur the lines on the back of my hand, but not in any way that made me think it was different from other blurring primers I own. However, when applied to my face, well, the magic happened. This primer promises to smooth the skin. Well it does that, big time! I have trouble with large pores on my cheeks, and especially between my eyes and above my brows. Now I couldn’t tell if this primer was true to its claims when I first applied it, but once I applied the foundation on top… giddy aunt. The foundation smoothed over those pores without leaving foundation coloured pore-holes. My skin looked flawless in those pore-full regions. I was impressed. Not only that, the primer gave my skin a beautiful luminosity, which I didn’t expect. I compared this with my other primers and I can honestly say, hand on heart, this is now my absolute favourite smoothing primer, and it beats hands down another similar primer I have that costs twice the price.

The foundation I was selected to trial was the Max Factor Miracle Match, which is designed to blur and hydrate. I popped into Farmers and decided Warm Almond would be the shade for me. Not only is it the shade for me, it’s my perfect shade. Compared to my usual foundations this one is thicker, but it doesn’t give mask-face once applied. In fact it gives that coveted ‘my skin but better’ look. In fact it’s hard to see where my foundation-face and my true skin colour met. Not only that it reduced redness and did an unexpectedly good job of covering up my latest breakout scars. I didn’t even need to use concealer on them. Wow.  Blurring? I would say yes, my skin looked better than usual. Hydrating? It definitely felt plump. And I’m extraordinarily pleased that it didn’t cause a breakout – bonus!

When used in conjunction with the Smooth Miracle Primer this is foundation perfection. It smoothes on and blends effortlessly. Beating out some of my twice-the-price foundations in both blendability and stickability. I wore the Max Factor combo to the Kumeu Show in the pouring rain, got soaked to my smalls, and my skin still looked flawless at the end of the day. It also managed a whole day at the office, lasting well into the night. Of course, being a bit of a detective I tried the foundation out in other ways. Without a primer it was harder to blend and faded quickly – we say it’s a crime not to prime and the proof was in that pudding. When used with other primers it was hit and miss. Sometimes it was harder to blend, other times there was no difference between using the Max Factor primer and a different one.

All in all though, I was delighted with the Max Factor products, and have no hesitation in recommending them, especially when used in conjunction with each other. A match made in heaven. Consider me converted.

Well there's 2 of the 4 Max Factor Miracle Worker Foundations given the Beauty Crew trial treatment.  Have you tried either of these Max Factor foundations, or the Miracle Smooth Primer?  Do your thoughts match Queenies and Kellie's?  Have they convinced you to give one of these a whirl?  Can you believe Max Factor didn't hire Queenie?!

Tomorrow we'll be featuring First Lady Nat's experience with a 2-in-1 foundation and serum (say whatttt?!) and introducing our Honourary Crew member for this review experience, so check back with us then!

I had the same one as you Merilyn and I loved it too! I also would have LOVED to work for Max Factor (instead of working in a pharmacy and sighing over the products and advertising materials) - having had a celeb crush on Jaclyn Smith all those years ago and wanting to look like her, be like her, and be her!!! Your reviews are both great :)

Its cool to see the crew review. I love the before and after pictures. I dont normally gravitate to Maxfactor either.

30th March, 2017

I only just recently got a primer and I'm not quite sure how to apply it, but after this insight I will definitely focus on learning! Sounds like the foundations are both really good pairs with the Max primer.

30th March, 2017

I never try anything from max factor brand. Never appealed in past but now I want to try foundation because right now I am looking some. Great reviews by great ladies.

30th March, 2017

I've never been convinced of the efficacy of a Primer... but you ladies have both planted the seed that maybe I could reconsider. Love the reviews. ..I await the next eagerly.

30th March, 2017

Awesome reviews Queenie and Head Pixie! Max factor foundation was quite a surprise and also not a brand I pick up often at all :)
