There are many excellent reasons to colour your hair at home - the ease, the time saved, and let's not forget the cost! Colouring your hair at a salon, especially if you need it touched up regularly, requires - for some of us - a money tree to be growing in our backyard! The trouble with colouring your hair at home though is that with so many brands and variations on the market it can be difficult to know which one to choose! Which will give vibrant colour? Which will last the longest? Which offers the best quick fix for those times when you don't have a chance to colour your hair fully at home, let alone make the time to do so at a salon!?

Luckily for us, the Beauty Review members have come to our resuce by trying and reviewing all manner of hair colour! So which get the Top Rated badge tick of approval? Read on!

2.  L'Oreal Paris Casting Creme Gloss

Beauty Review Member raquelturner33 says: This was the best dye I have used so far. The colour was deep and rich. It didn't wash out and fade after the first wash. It stayed vibrant for 3 weeks before I had to redo it. This is now my go to dye!!!

3. Schwarzkopf Hair Mascara

Beauty Review Member thefairydowntown says: have used it many times and it's always left my hair feeling extremely soft and conditioned. I have used Alpine Green and Midnight Blue and both colours are amazing on my hair and don't fade to an ugly colour.

5.  L'Oreal Paris Magic Retouch

Beauty Review Member Tarynr says: I've used this product for a few years now as a touch up in between colouring. I am probably about 30% grey and colour dark brunette. It works well to cover grey and you can't tell you're wearing it.

6.  Schwarzkopf Colour Specialist

I colour my hair at home as I can't afford to go to a salon. I have a couple of favourites and I have also used the Loreal spray to cover roots also

*clarol nice and easy is easy. I should check out some more of the wash out ones from the casting cream gloss L'Oréal. Right now I've been using directions and Manic panic

Yes I have been experimenting with temporary colours and carol and casting cream gloss are easy to use

11th August, 2021

Yes! And am loving the semi's that are available now!!!

Have used 6 of these products, unfortunately one of the hair dyes changed their formula and it just isn't the same, I had used it for many years so I have changed to Napro Palette which covers greys well and is value for money. In my teens we all used Glints rinses and they were great fun to use with a good selection of colours.

I'd love to colour my hair but its too white and too fragile.

I've tried them all! Have been dying my hair at home for over 20 years. I just used the casting creme gloss again last week and it is brilliant. I used plum and I love the colour.

I’ve tried 3 out of these, mostly good, I think at home hair dyes have come a long way, they aren’t as bad as they once used to be. :)
