Project Pan

Have you sorted out your bathroom cabinet lately?  What about your makeup bag (or drawer, or closet?!).  If you're like a lot of women, when it comes to beauty products you hoard.

We like lipsticks and nail polish in every available colour.  We want to try the latest black eyeliner, even though we have three barely used pencils already.  Why have one scent of shower gel when we can have a different smell for each day or mood?

The "side effects" of the beauty bug are three fold - we run out of space, we spend a lot of money and we end up with too many half used products just going to waste.

Well once upon a time (not that long ago) a vlogger invented Project Pan.  The concept is simple.  You challenge yourself not to buy any more beauty products until you have used up x amount of your existing products.  So a Project 10 Pan would mean you couldn't buy any new beauty products until you had used up 10 of your existing products.  We've even read of a Project 50 Pan!

Most people who take the challenge don't include necessities...if you run out of shower gel, you don't have to go au natural, but you can only buy a necessity if your stash of it has run out completely!

So for all the makeup, perfume and cosmetic hoarders out there - Project Pan - Could you?  Would you?  Should you?

What do you think of Project Pan?

Awesome idea! I only recently stopped hoarding makeup that i didnt use and just kept or buying things for no real reason, i will give this a go for sure :)

I think this is a fantastic idea, as most products, especially make up have a shelf life of 4-5 years, they just start to gather bacteria, so if your constantly replenishing and not using all your make up you already have, your putting yourself at risk

great idea in theory but I love buying makeup and skin care products so don't see myself ever doing this

This sounds like a great idea but it does worry me a bit. I particularly like painting my nails and change the design every couple of days and I am not sure whether I could resist not buying new shades

Its a great idea... not sure I could adhere to it but why not give it a go... at the very least it could save a bit of money. Although I do have a soft spot for more than one perfume ;)

Fab idea! :) But I don't think I would be able to do this. I am a makeup/all things beauty hoarder/collector and I have absolutely no faith in myself whatsoever lol.

I think it is definitely a good idea if you are the sort of person who buys heaps of products and then keeps on buying more without using up ones that you already have. I hate wastage so i generally try and finish products before buying new ones, but I am still guilty of seeing things that I really want and just buying them even though I have enough nail polishes, foundation etc.

I purged my decent makeup, beauty and toiletry collection when I moved to NZ two and a half years ago. I had a lot of make up and stuff like shampoos and body lotions. I had to trim down or just not take them with me 'cause it was like shampoo bottle or 3 cute summer dresses. The lack of wealth since I moved kept the stock down as well plus I gave away some makeup this Christmas (new stuff bought for people) plus when my youngest sister ruined my next youngest sister's lipstick I gave her several of mine plus some gloss. The lipsticks, lip glosses, lip liners, single eyeshadow colors, eyeliners and blushers I own could all be counted on one hand. I do have a couple of eyeshadow palettes though one with four colors and one with 36. I did buy some stuff from Inika because the company is closing so I bought some stuff for me and some as pressies for others. I think the thing I stock up on is skincare and stuff like shower gel, showel gel and body lotion but that I'll use up very fast compared to make up and that way I don't run out when there's no sale. There's not much space in the bathroom or shower for more than one or two bottles, I have one of these plastic storage boxes to store it all plus my my two bottom dresser drawers so that's my limit. I would like to use up most of my eyeshadow before I buy more unless the brand is about to be discontinued.

I'm doing it already since a few months, now at least I know it's called project pan, lol. But nowadays everything's got a name.

I love the idea of Project Pan! But I've just signed up to Sample Bar - so I'll be increasing the stash on a monthly basis - whoops!

This a great idea. I have a ridiculous amount of beauty products and I'm always buying more. I like to have stocks of what I use most so I have about 6 mascaras ready to go plus 10ish face creams then there is everything else. I think I might do project 5pan for my perfume, I really need to stop buying that for a while!

Rezee I faithfully used nearly all of my perfume then ordered the Giorgio I've wanted for years, and now Fishpond tell me (after waiting 6 weeks) they can't supply if after all! A good reason to purchase something when you see it. I'm so annoyed.
