Project Pan

Have you sorted out your bathroom cabinet lately?  What about your makeup bag (or drawer, or closet?!).  If you're like a lot of women, when it comes to beauty products you hoard.

We like lipsticks and nail polish in every available colour.  We want to try the latest black eyeliner, even though we have three barely used pencils already.  Why have one scent of shower gel when we can have a different smell for each day or mood?

The "side effects" of the beauty bug are three fold - we run out of space, we spend a lot of money and we end up with too many half used products just going to waste.

Well once upon a time (not that long ago) a vlogger invented Project Pan.  The concept is simple.  You challenge yourself not to buy any more beauty products until you have used up x amount of your existing products.  So a Project 10 Pan would mean you couldn't buy any new beauty products until you had used up 10 of your existing products.  We've even read of a Project 50 Pan!

Most people who take the challenge don't include necessities...if you run out of shower gel, you don't have to go au natural, but you can only buy a necessity if your stash of it has run out completely!

So for all the makeup, perfume and cosmetic hoarders out there - Project Pan - Could you?  Would you?  Should you?

What do you think of Project Pan?

I'm committed to panning and reducing my collection in 2017 :-) Every new purchase means I have to remove 2 of the same items from my collection so that eventually I am left with my favourites.

In Dec I already had a wee list of items I was going to buy in Jan but since starting my journey last week I've trashed the list.

Yes I'm a hoarder of all sorts of products. That's why I post empties. This way I'm visually seeing what I've used in the past month or months. I'm almost finished a perfume .

8th January, 2017

Yes definitely. I have many items of the same kind - some are identical.

I don't think I'm a horder. Maybe lipsticks and eyeshadow palettes so I'll happily project pan those items! :)

very good idea as makeup has an expiry so it is a waste to have too much.

I've kept my stash more pertinent over 2016 and managed to find ways to move some more items into my routine to use up. I don't think I have too many of the essentials like bodywash and body moisturizers. I only buy stuff if I think I absolutely am going to use it. As far as makeup goes I don't buy a lot of palettes because they are difficult to pan, I do like makeup minis for that reason. I do collect mostly face makeup products and lipsticks because those are the items I'm more likely to use up, oh and brow pencils and liquid liners, I use that every time I do my eye makeup.

I think this idea works so well for some people! But personally just being more conscious of what I have works really well and has made me much better at using things up rather than buying new things.

I'm not too much of a hoarder. I generally have 2 of each of my favourite products. I tend to splurge on shampoo and conditioners...ermmmm I have about a hundred lurking in my cabinet oops.

That's an awesome idea! I figured the first way I cut down on the extras was to actually throw out what had expired. That made a good dent. I now have expiry dates on all my cosmetics and aim to use it before I lose it! I'm generally not that bad when it comes to having an excess amount of items. EG I have 2 perfumes that are almost empty, 2 mascaras, 2 face creams, 2 face washes...I am seeing a theme here for 2 of each! Not bad though as I really do try to get as much use out of everything and get my money's worth. Though there is nothing like opening a new product and using it for the first time!

What a fab idea! It has given me the inspiration to do it. Now to pick that magic number. I think I will start small..maybe 5!

16th September, 2014

I am going home to do this!! Aiming for Project 15 Pan!! EEK!

29th July, 2014

I neeeeeeeeeeeed to do this so badly, thinking of doing a Project Pan August as i keep buying when I don't need!

I am definitely going to give this one a shot, I've had a sort through to get rid of the old stuff but not with any particular target in mind, there's still stuff in there i probably don't use

I seem to be pretty good at using up my beauty products before buying new ones. Except eyeshadow - I don't think I've ever finished an eyeshadow palette before :(

3rd February, 2014

Good idea but probably couldn't do it! I always have a clear-out of makeup every six months even if the expiry dates are a year. So I wouldn't say I am a hoarder, but I renew my makeup stuff once or twice a year. And really, I suppose there are worse addictions than buying beauty products so whats the harm :)
