Can You Believe HOW many people have cut their own hair?

LOCKDOWN Beauty and US.

by BR Tabatha

Last week in the search of the facts and to uncover the truth, we surveyed our Beauty Review readers to ask if lockdown has impacted the way we look, and the way we buy.

Have we turned into a nation of women cowering in the shadows not because we’re afraid of COVID-19, but  because our body hair is now so long it needs to be blow dried?  What DIY beauty treatments has the nation resorted to?  Have we become a nation in love with supermarket beauty products, or are we hanging out for salon treatments?

Let's find out!

So there you have it.  The Lockdown Beauty numbers crunched - any surprises?  We can't believe so many salon clients have reached for the scissors and colour!  Let's hope hairdressers don't decide to add a DIY Tax!

WIN: Tell us more about any of your DIY successes or failures below and we might reward you with a spot prize from our awesome prize cupboard to boost your spirits.

I was meant to get my hair cut but ended up needing a Operation, a week in hospital, then got home and the country went into lock down while I was still bed ridden, I had to cut my own fringe twice during lock down, and was seriously looking at the ends just recently!, It went better than I thought it would given I am no hairdresser!

So I've been pretty good I haven't cut my hair but dyed it blonde to cover the greys and loved my thining scissors there ended up a creature in my bathroom afterwards. And wow my hair has gotten so long at the sides

Wow, over half of people got stuck in with the scissors? That's much higher than I expected. I personally look like that sheep they found that hadn't been shawn in years (Shrek) but I still refuse to try it myself, I'm sure I'd make it worse! I am a DIY girl when it comes to colouring though. I definitely had to change my skincare regime and I discovered a great new brand so that's a silver lining. I do love trying new goodies!

Lockdown has made me realise that I pay $150 to get my hair dyed brown. I went to the supermarket and spent $45 on two boxes of brown dye and despite the hassle, it actually looks exactly like its salon done. I dont think I'll risk cutting my hair but I certainly dont need to spend $150 anymore

Usually I do go to the hairdressers, but I was tired of waiting so decided to give my fringe a chop. First I cut across the face straight, but it wasn't straight so then I pulled it all up and cut. Bit lopsided, but I couldn't cut anymore otherwise it would have been much too short.

Also cut husband's, but didn't do his too short and was so much easier as he has curls so may cut his hair more often. I guess the more cutting I do the better I'll get!!! Daughter and sons' refuse to let me touch their hair - wonder if they saw my fringe!!!

Nope! I haven't needed to switch to DIY because I always did most of these things myself anyway! My hair is longer than long and I haven't cut it in years and I've never had salon or professional beauty services like nails, waxing or brows done before so there's nothing to miss there!

My hair is always a tragic mess so anything that I could've done to my hair during lock down would probably be of no surprise

This has been the longest I have ever gone without colouring my hair in 20 years! So I have discovered my natural colour (with a few greys! Haha). I have not tried to cut it but my teenage daughters have, needless to say, they are already booked in for a tidy up!

I definitely haven’t touched my hair! I’ve spent a scary amount of money over the years getting my blonde professionally done so I was not about to risk ruining all my stylists hard work with a bad box dye by yours truly - I think she’d probably kill me! I have taken to tinting my own eyebrows though - I’ve worked full time in a pharmacy through lockdown and it’s been crazy tiring, so to be able to get a bit of extra sleep instead of spending time filling my brows in has been a god send, and it turned out really well too! I’ll definitely be looking forward to getting them shaped though, they’re slowly starting to resemble slugs..

So I had the awesome experience of hubby dying my hair for me I went black literally!!! My ears, neck, chest and forehead all matched my hair oh and dont get me started on how much he missed on my actual head!!!!!

I wouldn’t cut my own hair ever again, I’ve cut my hair in primary school and I’m still not over that trauma, lol. Turned out my mum was right, a fringe just doesn’t suit me. :) I do however colour my own hair sometimes, box dyes aren’t too bad, I think they’ve gotten better quality with time.

Haven't done anything with my hair. Missed my april cut and decided to wait for my next cut and colour in a couple of weeks. Actually loving that my hair is longer so might have to miss getting my 7weekly cut as don't need it!

13th May, 2020

Haven’t done anything with my hair but I was very tempted to tint my own eyebrows (they are very blond) but luckily couldn’t find any kits in stock, definitely had some time to perfect filling them in though!

I had to try and cut my fringe, it was way long as in almost down to the end of my nose. Didn't do too well, daughter dragged me into the bathroom with a pair of scissors to help me fix it LOL. Oh well, desperate times need desperate measures.

My daughter and her friend snuck off with craft scissors and played hairdressers. I burst into tears when I picked her up from Kindy - it wasn’t terrible - a chunk missing underneath her hair but I was devastated - my daughter oblivious.
