Can You Believe HOW many people have cut their own hair?

LOCKDOWN Beauty and US.

by BR Tabatha

Last week in the search of the facts and to uncover the truth, we surveyed our Beauty Review readers to ask if lockdown has impacted the way we look, and the way we buy.

Have we turned into a nation of women cowering in the shadows not because we’re afraid of COVID-19, but  because our body hair is now so long it needs to be blow dried?  What DIY beauty treatments has the nation resorted to?  Have we become a nation in love with supermarket beauty products, or are we hanging out for salon treatments?

Let's find out!

So there you have it.  The Lockdown Beauty numbers crunched - any surprises?  We can't believe so many salon clients have reached for the scissors and colour!  Let's hope hairdressers don't decide to add a DIY Tax!

WIN: Tell us more about any of your DIY successes or failures below and we might reward you with a spot prize from our awesome prize cupboard to boost your spirits.

I luckily had my hair cut just before lockdown and have balayage colouring so it hasn't needed anything! My partner has been begging me to bust out the clippers and give him a trim but I'm too scared!

I have to say doing my own brow tint was a mistake. I ended up dyeing my eyelid slightly because I slipped and didn't realize till too late lol. Lucky for me it was in level 4 so noone saw it except the husband and kid.

I have cut my fringe but had to fess up to my hairdresser as she is so particular how its cut and I also cut my Husbands hair. Didn't look too bad for a buzz cut.

I cut my fringe twice and have cut Hubbys hair twice. Not sure what the hairdresser will make of the fringe.

My hair grows so quickly and gets very thick. Have cut my fringe a few times and ran a thinning comb through it. Will have to wait a few weeks to see my hairdresser so that I dont get told off.

My daughter cut a snazzy wee fringe during lockdown. I have just left mine to it.

I tried to cut my sons hair but he ran away lol and I’ve been doing my own colour for about 20 years but I desperately need a cut and style I’m feeling a new look

I cut my partner and my twin step son's hair during lock down. They were turning into massive boof heads so they all got Mohawks. I managed to recieve (and disinfect) my hairdressing scissors I ordered from China a few weeks before lockdown so I was stoked! I also gave my fringe a slight trim up and the ends. I usually dye my hair with semi permanent home colour so russled a few boxes of that before lockdown and did home conditioning treatments. I've never had waxing/ eyebrow tints at a salon so already had the gear to do that myself as well as a face mask once per week. I had to buy a different conditioner than usual and was really missing bath bombs/ bath salt that I use to relax and found them online shopping through cotton on after they could sell non essential items. It was a huge pick me up when I got them as I was so worried about the virus and pandemic and home schooling and looking after a 4 month bubba during lockdown has been full on!!

My husband had the pleasure of me cutting his hair during lockdown. His hair sure does look funny now as needed to be thinned around the sides, instead he has a bald patch now. So me taking up hairdressing as a career is a definite no.

I trimmed AND coloured my own hair during lockdown hahahahahaha

I shaved the sides of my head and dyed it red - something I have been wanting to do forever. So happy with how it turns out - and it's definitely going to save me money now I've done it!

I cut my fringe, but I do that between cuts anyway. And I used blonding spray for the roots. Plucked a few strays by my eyebrows. But didn't touch the nails. I usually have polish on the toes, but cleaned it all off and left them alone. I'll go and see the hairdresser once she has got through the chaos.

I resisted the tempttion to cut my hair, although i normally wear it short, -still having memories of the results I used to get when i had four small kids and couldn't afford to go to hairdressers. Am glad my son (now 55) has not been in my bubble -he still teases me about wanting revenge for cuts I id for him fifty years ago!!! Luckily I had just had it both cut and coloured a few days before lockdown anyway.

I coloured my hair, my grey hair is a bit resistant but the home dye did a pretty good job! Only problem is my hair grows really fast and grey is now there again!!

13th May, 2020

I did my own nails, a lot more admin and didn’t last as long as shellac but definitely workable. Also did my own facials - not quite as successful and will definitely be going back! I also dyed my mums hair with semi permanent. Went surprisingly well!!!
