Why the Beauty World is Obsessed With Hyaluronic Acid!

Have you heard of Hyaluronic Acid?  If you're not familiar with this skin care ingredient, you're probably thinking it's a peel?   Well, it's actually an incredibly powerful ingredient that has nothing to do with exfoliating.  It's the key to super hydrated, plumped, glowy skin!

The basics.

Hyaluronic Acid is a natural compound - we're all born with in our bodies and like most of the good stuff, it decreases with age.  Hyaluronic Acid is found in our joints, muscles and in our skin - it's kind of the CRC of the body - without it we'd become brittle and dry.

Why is it good in skin care?

As an ingredient, the easiest way to describe Hyaluronic Acid is that it is a 'dermal filler'.  It's most magical property is that it can absorb and hold 1000 times its weight in water.  By holding lots of water, it fills out wrinkles.

An equally impressive quality is that it preserves collagen, which in turn firms and plumps up the skin.

Where can I find it?

This must have ingredient is making it's way into ranges you can easily slip into your trolley, or pick up at your local pharmacy or department store.  One range making waves with our reviewers at the moment is the L'Oreal Paris Revitalift Filler range, consisting of a serum and day, night and eye cream,

What else do I need to know about using Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic Acid is like a water magnet - it draws water to itself.  So for the best results you should apply it to damp skin.  If you suffer from dry skin, or you apply it to skin that isnt damp, the Hyaluronic Acid will pull moisture from the skin, leaving it dryer in the long run.   Mist your face before applying your Hyaluronic treatment and lock it in with a moisturiser after, and you're set to experience your plumpest, most hydrated skin ever!

I use The Ordinary hyaluronic acid serum and my skin has loved me for it. I wake up with glowing skin and never use foundation now.

I have only used it in an eyecream. I did notice after prolonged use that my fine lines looked less visible and the under-eye area appeared plumper. I might check out this range for my skin!

Love it!

It’s not just about applying it to damp skin, but if someone is in a dry climate it will just keep sucking moisture out of the skin, no matter the initial application on damp skin. It only works if the weather is humid, if someone is in air conditioned room the whole day or fireplace/heat pump on in the winter it’ll just cause dry skin. People think it’s the holy grail for dry skin, but it’s so not.

I love hyaluronic acid! I use a serum on my face at night and from the first go, my face was super soft the next day. I don't use it everyday, maybe every second day for that extra boost.

This is super interesting, especially the Filler Ampoules! I might head out and check these products out in the supermarket.

I have seen a lot of hype about this on social media and beauty ads. I am wondering this this will Help my pigmentation after pregnancy? Would love to try products and report on how my skin goes.

I have never tried and would love to try this product. My skin is in dire need of moisture to be put back

Ive never tried it but would be keen to try a sheet mask as a start and see how my skin feels - especially since the winter heating has dried out my skin. Good to know about using it on damp skin!!

Actually the tip with this ingredient is to apply it to slightly damp skin (all skin types) and THEN follow it up with a more occlusive moisturiser. This locks it into your skin and stops your skin becoming drier.
