How To... Wear A Liquid Lip in 5 Easy Steps!

Liquid lips are here... and unlike Instagram beauty trends, they're here to stay. And thank goodness for that! We love a liquid lip! It's chic. Sophisticated. Fun. Playful. Best of all? A good one means you're not having to worry about the state of your lipstick every fifteen minutes... and touch ups are minimal - perfect for those of us who don't have the time or patience to pull out a compact mirror ten times a day.

Lipsticks of the liquid variety aren't all sunshines and rainbows though - they do require a little bit of prep work and a touch of patience if you want to avoid a hot mess situation.

So what do you need to do to apply a liquid lip with confidence? Read on...

1.  Prime your lippy loos! That's right, you want a smooth base before topping your kissers with a product that will show no mercy if your lips aren't in tip-top condition. Pick up a sugar scrub, massage it into your lips, then rinse it off. No scrub? A toothbrush does a great job at smoothing lip skin too!

2.  With all those dead cells sloughed away it's time to show some tender loving care - pop a little lip balm on to inject moisture, then go and do something else while the lip balm sinks in. Do the rest of your makeup, fold laundry, bake a batch of bikkies... that part's up to you!

3.  With your lips now soft, smooth and moisturised, it's time to apply the liquid lip. How you apply your liquid lip is a matter of preference. I prefer to slick some on the bottom of my lips, mash my lips together, then carefully go around the perimeter of my lips, then touch up any patchy areas - but, you do you! ... And if colouring in the lines isn't your strong point - feel free to etch out your lips with a lip liner first! Whatever works, right?

4.  Think you're done? Not quite. Before you skip out the door check your teeth, and if a little liquid lippy's on them, wipe it off.

5.  One last tip? If your liquid lipstick leaves you looking like you've spent a week baking in the hot sun, don't be afraid to reach for your trusty lip balm (one with minimal or no oil is good!) and dab dab dab a little on top to plump out those cracked lines.

There you have it - our easy guide to making liquid lips look lush!

So, are you a fan of the liquid lip? Which brand has brought out your favourite formula? Any preparation and application tips and tricks you'd like to tell us? Sharing is caring!

It always smudges or dries on me! I'm a simple tinted lip balm kinda girl!

Ha I do that but have never consciously thought about it.

I was a huge fan of Lime Crime, until it wasn't easy to find here anymore and then I heard about Jeffery Star, I fell in love!

I like the Maybelline super stay matte ink. Rub a flannel over your lips to remove dry skin and then moisturize followed by a balm. Apply the lippy in the middle of your lips and then work to the edges, you don't need much and tidy up with a cotton bud if you go over the edge. Allow to dry and put some clear gloss on the middle of your lips, I use Wet'n'Wild and the colour lasts all day

I prefer pencil :)

My one tip is to make sure you've scraped off most of the lipstick on the sides of the tube when you pull out the applicator as that makes it easier to apply. Most liquid lipsticks are super pigmented so you don't need much anyways. I really like Lime Crime because it's transfer proof with water but if you don't like a dry formula then Mellow is a good option. I've also been really loving the Sigma Lip Eclipse in Sigma Pink which is like a glossy liquid lipstick. I've gotten heaps of compliments on it.

The lush lip scrub is pretty good at prepping - I haven't got around to doing the review yet, but it's up there. Going to keep an eye on the comments I need some new colours and keen to see how everyone finds them before purchase.. I usually play safe and stick to a stain but the latest lime crimes I brought have been amazing so keen to bring more colours into my life stain or liquid.

If I'm in a hurry then a nude liquid lip is my go-to. Absolutely love The Balm long-lasting ones as they have a peppermint tingle and they last ages. It's crazy how much they differ in price across seller though- I've seen them for $50 and I've seen them at $30. They are an insanely good product though. I usually use traditional bullet lippies- esp the matte MAC ones. They are much dryer, harder to apply but they come in incredible colours and I usually do a bold lip and simple eyes.

My favourite is Dose of Colours and Kylie last me all day without fade. I’d love to try other brands out.

I haven’t yet tried a liquid lipstick, so I’ll be keeping an eye on these comments for recommendations, as I want to buy one.

I uses a liquid lippie way back and really liked it although until dry was a little sticky -I would imagine the new ones are much better and will look out for them -Awesome.

I quite like liquid lipstick. Some formulas are better than others. Out of all the ones in my collection, I really like the Mellow one. Best formula and lovely shade range.

I absolutely LOVE my Jeffree Star liquid lips. I was not a lippie person at all, it always looked terrible on me and my skill was nil! Tried Jeffree Star and instantly fell in love, last count I have over a dozen of them eek. They last all day, so many incredible shades and once you’ve got the hang of them, they give you the absolute perfect pout
