When we purchase a piece of technology it's generally an investment right?  We set ourselves a maximum budget and we buy the best product we can afford, and use it until it no longer works.  But here's the thing about technology - it's always moving forward!

What was top of the line 5 years ago (heck, even 1 year ago) is now the equivalent of a Tamagotchi compared to a Nintendo Switch.  Of a Nokia 6310 to an iPhone 13.  And hair technology is no different.

Compare straighteners now to straighteners 5 years ago.  The difference is astounding!  We now know the importance of choosing straighteners with plates that evenly distribute heat.  We know different hair types require different maximum temperatures.  And how many of us have been saved by the handy auto-switch off function?!

And by using old technology straighteners, chances are you're actually damaging your hair - so rather than waiting for them to die the ultimate techno-death, it's time to reassess your current straighteners now!

We're putting together a really exciting trial team which will see 20 reviewers put a brand new straightener to the test.  Here's where it gets interesting.  These aren't hitting retail stores until around the November 1st and we can't publicly talk about them until then.  Neither can the trial team!  We can say they are going to retail for $439.99 and are based on the latest in STEAM straightening technology.  Christmas really will come early for the members of this trial team!

Steam Technology.

  • Steam technology acts as a conditioning mist, infusing hair with moisture while transforming it into long-lasting, poker straight hair that shines and feels soft and satiny.
  • The mystery straighteners offer you the option to use the base station to automatically fill the straightener in seconds, or you can fill the straightener reservoir directly.
  • The plates are titanium plates, max wide and cushioned to provide the ulitimate temperature stability for poker straight hair in one pass.
  • There's a removable detangling comb that allows for 3D straightening, sectioning and detangling hair as you style it!
  • You'll experience super controlled styling with 5 heat settings up to 220°C and integrated sensors to prevent excessive heat.
  • Hair will stay straight for at least 24 hours!

WE KNOW!!  It sounds amazing!!

So if you'd like to put your hand up to trial this super secret, super amazing product you'll need to take our survey to put your hand up.

Then why not come back here and tell us all about your current straighteners - we'd love to hear how old they are, what technology they utilise and if they need an upgrade!

I have an old GHD that was purchased 7 years ago and it still does the job. I also have a cloud 9 and I can honestly say it’s pretty great! My hair is pretty difficult to work with. It’s dry, frizzy and so thick so it takes a while to get my hair perfectly straight. I would love to see the comparison between my regular hair straightener and the steam straightener. How long it takes. The ease of both straighteners and how it affects the hair. Eeekk how exciting to have something like this on the market.

ok - so I have 2 sets, one is rolling type straightener and then a pair of ceramic Remington's but both are probably at least 10+ years old? my hair is a disaster most of the time - I have very very thick hair, but it has a massive kink/wave to it naturally, and its the kind that doesnt look good just as it is, it needs straightening or curled/waved by a device of somesort - but I have never been able to invest in a decent set of straighteners, I want to, just can't - I would KILL to try these out for you - I can try them on my hair, my pre-teen girls hair (she has a TON of hair too, but very fine and goes fuzzy without some assistance....) dang I'll even set these puppies lose on my husbands hair when he dares grow the mullet back in! so what do you say Beauty Review? will you let me try some :)

I have a Remington set. They are pretty good still, although they don’t get a lot of use. My hair is thick and there is A LOT of it, and now it is long again, I struggle to find the time to straighten it all.

I love my straighteners as you can use them on wet hair (I know that isn’t good to do!) - they are old school now. Interesting that these new straighteners use steam, as steam usually makes my hair wavy again, so I would be super keen to trial this straightener as my hair would definitely give them a good workout!

I've tried the curly girl method but it does not work for me....So I'm back to old school having to straighten my hair because if I don't I look like Russell Brand with a "crown of frizz". I can't find a single product to defrizz so I'm stuck with straightening, which I don't mind as long as my hair doesn't get too dry.

Steam technology sounds a dream - like sealing in the moisture and not just drying the hair out until it is crispy. Get me involved please straight away as my terrible old hair straighteners are close to the bin with a dodgy plug after years of use and abuse.

Don't get me started about a detangling comb - what a winner!!! I would love to try these and get me out of my 80's messy big hair - give me sleek smooth posh spice of the 90's please!

I have had my good old GHDs for over 10 years! Never heard of steam straightening but call me intrigued!

20th October, 2021

I have literally been stalking the Facebook page since the announcement a couple days ago and I am so, so excited to see what steam straightener product comes out! I currently use an older, somewhat trusty GHD but have noticed that, as summer rolls around, it isn’t quite as effective on my hair as I would like. Love a new product announcement!

Ooh now this sounds so interesting it would be nice to retire my faithful ghds. that I’ve had for about 6 years now for something new. Steam technology sounds very interesting and I would love to give them a go

These sound amazing! Straightening my hair has become such a chore, I would love to try out some new technology!

20th October, 2021

I’ve never heard of steam straightening before! Sounds very interesting. My last hair straighter I got was in 2015 and that was a present from my husband.

I had a steam curling thingee (was a bit like a brush but the bristles were thick hard plastic) back in the 80's. It had a "shot of steam function" like an iron. Don't think it ever really curled my hair, but you could achieve a flick at the ends with it. My current straighteners are probably around 10 years old so I really do need an upgrade.

20th October, 2021

I still have my O.G. GHD straighteners - they’d be at least 12 years old. They still operate…saying they work might be a stretch. Definitely keen to give these a whirl!

20th October, 2021

I bought my GHD straighteners when I was living in the UK..... and we moved home 16 years ago! So they're older than that, but can't remember exactly how much more (it's a bit sad now I've worked that out!) I have thin frizzy hair that likes to do its own thing so some straighteners that could take charge and tell it who's boss would be amazing to try.

20th October, 2021

I’d love to trial this, I’m using a Remington and it doesn’t help my hair but it’s really what I can afford at the time of purchase..My hair is naturally wavy and uncontrollable so I need to straighten my hair daily!

20th October, 2021

I’m literally using a GHD right now that I got back in 2009, so very old! I have frizzy and pretty hard to control hair. So being able to straighten and de-frizz my hair is very important to me. When I haven’t straightened my hair it’s quite unmanageable. But I know I need a product that’s better for my hair and also hopefully saves me a bit of time!
