How Long Have You Had Your Hairbrush?

I was reading an article the other day, recommending we change our hairbrushes every SIX MONTHS.  This seemed a bit extreme to me, but I do agree its important to keep our brushes in tip-top condition lest we risk them damaging our hair.

You see, built up debris of styling products and damp hair can lead to bacteria growth, and melted bristles from heat styling can actually snag the hair as we brush.  At the bare minimum we should be removing excess hair from our brushes after every use.  For the Gold Star of Care, we should be washing our brushes weekly.  Using baking soda and vinegar is an easy way to remove product build up and scalp flakes, helping to keep our brushes in better condition for longer.

We're putting the latest hair brush release from Mita to the test.  The last three Mita detangling brushes are all Top Rated by you, the people of New Zealand, so we're super excited to get our hands on this colourful beauty!

The Mita™ GEMTIP Detangling Brush is a unique 3D Flexi-Control Brush with multi-nylon bristles & gem tips.

Each bristle is physically formed into a smooth round sphere, like a delicate gem, free of sharp edges. The Mita GEMTIP detangling brush is super flexible with long & short thin bristles to remove tangles effortlessly and painlessly, reducing hair breakage.

The two-length bristles work perfectly to detangle and massage the hair whilst massaging the scalp and gently cleaning away dandruff and dirt from the scalp.

As well as for use on dry hair, the GEMPTIP shines when used in the shower.  It helps to spread shampoo and conditioner evenly along the hair and helps rinse them away more quickly without snagging or pulling on wet hair.

If you fancy a spot on this trial team, get chatting below about all things hair brush.  How long have you had your current brush?  Do you look after it well or is it a bit neglated?  Why would you like to review the Mita GEMTIPS Detangling Brush for us?

Haha chucked mine out years ago because it wss about 10 years old and super gross. Haven’t replaced it! My hair would no doubt love a good brush.

I honestly did not know you were meant to change your hairbrush that often! I've been using Tangle Teezers and I find them pretty good, but I'll be honest, I think a handle would be amazing - the amount of times I've lost my grip and thrown mine across the room...

My “new” hairbrush is well over a year old.... It gets a clean out every so often but that’s about it.

This brush sounds like a lifesaver for me and would really love to try. I currently use detangler spray along with my tangleteezer as I have thin hair but HEAPS of it so gets super tangled and knotted very quickly I love my long hair but it’s a nightmare when I brush it. I generally have to wait until my hair is almost completely dry to be able to try to get a brush through it so this brush saying to use it in the shower really makes me curious if it would work for me!

Oops, I hadn't even thought about needing to replace my hair brush!

I've had my tangle teezer mini for at least 5 years, and while I definitely clear out the hair after every use it's safe to say it's seen better days! It would be wondrful to try something a bit bigger and see if the white helps encourage me to clean it a bit more thoroughly haha

Easily had mine 3 years now I think, I do clean it regularly but could definitely do with a new one

Oh dear my hairbrush is probably over ten years. It lost it's handle years ago so just the brush part. I'm feeling like my hair has been hard done by. No wonder I struggle to get the brush through!

I haven't changed my hairbrush in like 2 years! I have very fine, very knotty hair and I often avoid brushing it because my brush can't seem to get the knots out. Would love to try this brush to see if I can change the way I do my hair for the better!

I have had my hairbrush for about 3 years!!

Omg I have had my hair brushes SO LONG....and can’t say I clean them very often! Would be super keen to give this one a go! Love detangling brushes that are soft on your hair!!

My last hairbrush I had for at least, well, ahem.... 3yrs eekk!! The bristles were falling out and the residue was blerrkk! I'd love to try this brush, definitely if it's something I can use on wet hair would be great. I have long hair and it is always a brushing nightmare after I've washed it. Keen as to be on this trial team :-)

We have to replace them!? I usually keep mine until the bristles go a bit weird eek.. this brush looks so pretty with the rainbow bristles too

Big yikes, I'd say mine is on about year 5 now... mainly cos I love it, don't know where I got it so can't replace it, and don't know where to start with finding a new one! I do have a tangle teezer in my handbag too and do notice it brushes better, but I like a brush with a handle so don't use it as often as old trusty. Would love to see the difference this makes to my hair!

My hair brush is older than my teenage kids! Would love this to try, as the use in the shower sounds fabulous!!

6th September, 2020

I have long hair and always on the look out for the next best hairbrush, so would like to give this a try. My current brush is losing some bristles, I do clean it regularly but it’s clearly time for a replacement. This one sounds just the job.

I have thick curly easily tangled hair so always looking for the perfect hairbrush
