By now you clever Beauty Review ladies must realise that beauty benefits can come in many different, unusual and very much unexpected products. Well this week in celebration of St Patrick's Day we look at the extraordinary beauty benefits of beer!

Did you know…..

That beer can help fight wrinkles?
That's right the yeast used within lager and ales contains a wee little component called adenosine triphosphate which is an ingredient used within many organic beauty products and is very effective at reducing the appearance of wrinkles and also for restoring the skin back to its former glowing self.  Beer also has silica in it, so if taken internally it can actually help prevent free radical damage to the skin and also your internal organs.

Beer can also hydrate your skin?
This is beauty tip from the ancient Egyptians, bathe in beer it hydrates your skin.  Beer contains vitamin B, proteins, and yeast which all work to soften and nourish your skin but don't just reach for any can of beer look for those beers which are dark in colour, such as stouts, dark lagers or Guinness as these types of beer contain more of the nutrients, proteins and antioxidants which we all want for our skin.

Is fabulous for acne?
That's right beer is an anti inflammatory and also has antibacterial properties which means it's going to help fight that acne, but wait there's more! Not only does it reduce your acne but it also helps balance your skins ph levels and clear out pores because it is a powerful astringent.

Can help give you shiny, healthy locks?
Using beer to soak, rinse or even to spritz you hair can led to your hair becoming healthier and more nourished.  The natural ingredients in beer, such as B vitamins and proteins can repair damaged hair and also improve the overall body and volume of your hair.  The sugars and maltose also tighten the hair's cuticles, which encourages hair to sparkle and shine!

Next time you reach for the beer why not try some of these beertastic beauty recipes!

Beer Facial Mask
Whisk together 1/2 teaspoon of beer, 1 egg white and a drop of almond extract, apply directly to your cleansed face and wait for it to dry.  Don't worry if your skin starts to feel tight that's normal! When it's all dry gently wash your face with warm water.

Beer Bubble Bath
Next time you are running yourself a decadent bubble bath, why not add some of your favourite beer.  Simply add it to the running water, soak and appreciate just how much softer and smoother your skin is feeling!

Beer Hair Rinse
Mix 30 mls of distilled water and beer together with 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar and 7 drops of your favourite essential oil.  After shampooing and rinsing your hair as normal pour the mixture over your hair and work it through.  Rinse off with warm water.  Use this hair rinse once a month for shiny, bouncy healthy hair.

Beer and Strawberry Face Scrub
Now this one sounds almost good enough to eat! Mash 2-3 strawberries with a fork and mix it with a few drops of beer until it makes a nice paste.  Rub the paste over your face and let it dry on your face for about 20minutes.  Rinse the mixture off with warm water, moisturise and you're good to go!

Keen on the hair rinse, I have used a vinegar one before which apart from the slight scent was great for my hair.

I love a good beer and I've heard of the hair rinse, I'm not sure about a beer bath though! I have a feeling if I did that I would definately need a good scrub afterwards to avoid getting some funny looks at work haha.

Wow another very interesting article BR. Who knew beer had all these beauty benefits. Too bad I don't like drinking beer, but might have to try some of the other tips.

I have never been a beer drinker but after reading this it makes me want to have a nice hot bath in beer!

Very interesting....who would have thought beer had so many benefits. I don't mind the odd beer in summer but not sure about bathing in it or using in my hair. However I won't feel any guilt now in having the odd beer! I will just think of the benefits haha

I'm not a beer drinker I actually don't like the taste so when I was younger and someone gave me a can I would let it go flat and try to use it to style my hair. Alcohol was expensive where I lived so people looked at me like "all that good alcohol going to waste." Didn't know it was good for some other beauty recipes. One guy I know likes to use beer in a BBQ chicken marinade.

Well who have thought it was so good for you! Drank a fair bit in my younger days so maybe it helped somewhere haha. I don't really the smell or taste of it now but nothing like a cold one on a hot day. Have heard its a really good hair rinse but not sure I will try it!

I'm going to remember this on the odd occasion I drink or add beer to cooking :)

17th March, 2014

Wow!! Saving these recipes to a separate sheet so I don't lose them. Will have to try them out.

I like the sound of the face masks, I can't drink beer anymore. The smell gets to me and it bloats me up so bad!

17th March, 2014

I enjoy drinking beer - especially in Summer! But I'm not sure I could bring myself to bathe in it or put it on my face. I think there's something about the smell that I can't get past as far as using beer as a DIY beauty treatment goes! Interesting that it has so many beauty benefits though….maybe if some companies added it to their beauty product formulas I'd be more keen!

Wow, that is super cool, I knew that beer was good for the face as a moisturiser as there was an advert years back when I was in the UK, but didn't realise it was good for acne, thats really interesting. Will have to somehow 'borrow' some of hubbies beer when he's not looking and give it a go. The Beer facial mask looks interesting, have never put egg on my face (lol) before, but I'll definitely give anything a try if it promises good things. Ooooh the Beer and Strawberry Face Scrub sounds really good too. Only thing I won't be able to do is the beer bubble bath as I'm not lucky enough to have a bath :-(

The beauty recipes certainly sounds more beneficial than a hang over lol

Ha ha not sure about bathing in beer but interested in Beer Hair Rinse :-)
