Halloween - Is It Ok to Be Cute?

I remember when my Halloween witch costume consisted of black bin bags and face paint that dried into a stiff layer that cracked with the slightest expression.

Oh how things have changed.  Ever since  the birth of social media and the explosion of Instagram we're being challenged to create amazing Hallowe'en looks.  And to be fair, with online tutorials from makeup gurus, even the amateur makeupper can achieve some pretty incredible looks right?

One thing we've noticed over the years is the increase in the amount of 'cute' Hallowe'en looks.  Deers, kitty-cats, even skulls have become pretty.  Which made us ponder - is our eternal quest for beauty leading to vanity?  It's Hallowe'en right? Not your 10 year old's fancy dress party!  Can we really not go out looking scary or even disgusting, on purpose for just one night?

Now don't get me wrong - I love the makeup looks in this write-up - I just don't love them for Halloween.  I want to bring back the gross.  The scary.  The ugly.  I want to switch off the pressure to be prettty, cute or sexy, and bring on the ghoulish fun that comes with the night of decaying bodies!

I like both looks. Cute make up is probably easier to achieve then scary too.

I don't like scary looks, but I can't help but be impressed by how clever some people are.

Lots of fun either cute or spooky

Definitely a fan of cute especially with having kids who love Halloween

Some of these Halloween looks are very artistic and talented, not my cup of tea though.

I am hoping to do some Day of the Dead makeup, which I am aiming to be both scary and pretty, if possible!

For me halloween is a great excuse to go wild with make-up, absolutely love it.

Each to their own, no problem with the bloody and gore. I prefer pretty looks for myself. It's easier.
