Fight the Frizz! How To Head Off Humidity!

Humidity. The word strikes fear into the heart of many a beauty lover. One hint of the dreaded moisture-filled air and our tamed tresses can tranform into wild manes of uncontrollability.

The funny thing about humidity is that it loves dry hair. So the drier your hair is, the more moisture your hair will suck up - turning it from sleek and chic to a halo of frizz. So what's a human to do should they want to head off humidity? Add moisture. But how can one do that without turning your locks limp?

Get the Right Shampoo and Conditioner Combo

Look for a shampoo and conditioner that mentions 'smoothing' or - surprise, surprise - anti-frizz. These will work to smooth the cuticle and lock in moisture. And don't forget to finish off by rinsing with cool water to help further close the cuticles.

Post-Shower Care is Key

Rubbing your hair only fluffs up the cuticle. So instead of attacking your hair with a cotton towel, gently squeeze the moisture out with a micro-fibre towel.

Planning to blow-dry your hair? Apply a smoothing serum, then dry your hair on the lowest heat setting - and don't get too touchy with the hair, as this will only rough up the cuticle.

Hairspray Isn't Your Only Friend...

Hairspray works wonders at settling the frizz first thing, but sometimes we need a little extra help throughout the day...

Dryer Sheets to the rescue! No, seriously. Grab a pack from the supermarket, pop one in your handbag and when your hair starts to frizz up, run it over the area and watch things settle down once more.

Don't Get Handsy

Feel the need to fuss with your hair? Stop. Whenever you touch your hair you remove moisture, which then helps to promote the one thing you're trying to avoid - frizz. So if you feel like smoothing, or scrunching or stress-tugging your locks, sit on your hands, pick up the knitting, have a round of Under the Bambushes with an invisible friend, and know you're doing your hair a favour.

So is your hair affected by humidity? What are your tips and tricks for keeping it under control? Or are you a fan of tying it up and forgetting about it?

My hair just loves the humidity and it soaks up the moisture so that I can go from groomed to a very untidy look at this time of the year when rain is about . I would love to be considered for products which would help my hair remain groomed all day . I have it cut really short at present and it seems to be even worse so if you can help my aging locks I will be grateful

I have natural grey hair morel ike salt and pepper since I stop using hair dye products the texture is quite different ,I usually by anti frizz oil or I just tye it in a bun and stop fussing about it ; )

In all honesty I have given up looking, it might look frizzless when you leave the house but first walk past a mirror and zing, those strays are back.

Oh yes, my hair is very fine and not only frizzes it tangles. Would love a product which could let you do a quick pick up to settle it all down.

Not much helps my hair, just a load of hairspray and hope for the best! :)

I love leave in conditioning treatments, they keep wavy hair nice and smooth and shiny. Hair that goes dry and frizzy in humid conditions lacks protein and moisture so a good hair mask once a week full of protein and moisture will keep it looking healthy especially keratin ones. Also use a wide tooth comb not a hair brush after washing hair or it really damages and stretches the hair cuticle causing more frizz. If your hairs very curly argan oil or a serum is good but it can weigh hair down.

My hair has lovely wave to it but unfortunfortunately the humidity seems to turn it frizzy so something to help it would be very welcome

i have naturally curly hair that is hard to tame the best of times. add in the slightest of humidity or moister and its just goes all over the show. so i am guilty of tying it up and forgetting about it but then all the little baby hairs just do there own thing.

I have very thick curly hair which goes boof in humid wet conditions. I straighten my hair quite a bit so wet weather isn't my hairs best friend.

Gosh humidity is so not my friend I just constantly tie up my hair. I have not found a product that actually works all the time for humidity I do have a few that work alright some of the time but it’s a constant struggle.

My hair doesnt come out of its hair tie much at the moment otherwise it looks like a mushroom cut. A girl wants volume but there is a difference between genuine volume and fizz. Help!
