The Crew Reviews: Best of 2018 Makeup

By BR Kellie

Oodles of beauty products pass through the hallowed halls of Beauty Review and the crew takes it upon ourselves to try as much as we can because... erm... research. It's important for us to stay across the latest releases, new formulas, seasonal shades... I mean, it's our job, we have to, and also because we're beauty junkies. We get every bit as excited by the sight of a courier bag as a magpie when it sees a glittery strand of tinsel in a hedge.

So what makeup found its way into our lives and our hearts this year? Read on!

BR Merilyn

NYX Professional Makeup Wonder Stick

Love makeup that makes life easy? You're going to adore the NYX Professional Makeup Wonder Stick. With a highlight on one end and a contour colour on the other, you just swipe, blend and go. So creamy, so easy, so simple! I'll be repurchasing this in a flash!

Maybelline Superstay Lip Ink

The Maybelline Superstay Lip Ink is my makeup hit of 2018. I've tried a few shades, but my favourite is Dreamer. Its kinda pink, kinda nude. I wear it and I feel like my lips are making a statement without looking too bold. Everything about this product is perfect. The applicator is easy to use and the formula is smooth and creamy - there's no stickiness at all! The matte finish is stunning. Matte without a hint of dryness. And when they say this is a Superstay product - you better believe it. It doesn't budge for food or drink. On a night out you'll probably survive without a touch up!

L'Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Glow

This year I've done a bit of a one-eighty in my makeup application techniques. I've let my brushes and sponges languish as I've gone back to getting fingery with it, and the change can all be put down to L'Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Glow. When I got my hands on this foundation I tried it with a sponge and it was okay, but not amazing. A brush didn't do it for me either. But my fingers? With a little swipe and wipe fingery action the result was glorious! Streak-free, even application that gave me a my skin but much, much better look! Bonus? It's FAST. In between making lunches, doing housework and yelling 'get your uniform on' a thousand times every morning I require quick and easy makeup and this stunner ticks all the boxes!

Hourglass Caution Extreme Lash Mascara

This is everything. No exaggeration. One swipe and you've got longer, lusher more luxurious lashes. They're separated, non-clumping and the formula doesn't flake. I've always thought high-end mascaras were a bit of a have considering how many amazing drugstore ones there are out there (L'Oréal Paris Paradise Mascara is AMAZING and had I not discovered this would have taken the title), but this has me convinced that it's sometimes worth it to pay the extra pingers. Sublime.

Teddy Lane Nails

Teddy Lane Nails are incredible. I never thought I'd be raving about stick-on nails, and yet here I am in my yearly review, raving about stick-on nails! With so many designs and shapes and lengths to choose from you'd be hard pressed not to find a design you loved. It's so easy to find the right nails to fit yours and even easier to apply them. And you can choose the application that's right for you. Do you want them on just for the night? Or for the whole week? You can opt for either! And, if you look after them, you can totally reuse them!  Fab brand, fab price, fab products.

2018 was a brilliant year for makeup. Fantastic formulas, gorgeous innovations... it's made us all the more excited to see what 2019 brings! So, what hit the top of your love-list this year? Get chatting!

I got some teddy Lane nails from the vault. They are the ones I wanted too. But haven't worn them yet, I found some of them too wide for my nails so I used the file to file the sides down abit, much better fit now.

Wow, I'd so try on that L'oreal foundation if they had my shade. I'd love to not have to wash my foundation brushes and sponges. Hmmm, I don't think I have any one product that I could say was my top pick for 2018. I rediscovered old products, looking at you Beauty Blender. And I got into whole new categories of makeup, like I've been crazy about blush and highlighter this year. Stand outs for me from this year are Nars Long Wear Radiant foundation, MUG eyeshadows, some of my Sigma brushes and one of my Zoeva brushes.

29th December, 2018

The biggest game changer for me this year was neither make up per se, nor skin care per se, but lash growth serum - man, what an incredible difference it has made, I'm so impressed and wish I'd tried it sooner.

28th December, 2018

Teddy Lane nails are awesome - felt so glamorous wearing them and had heaps of compliments! Oh, there have been so many makeup favs in 2018, where do I begin? Karen Murrell lipstick, Physicians Formula mascara, Physicians Formula mineral wear blushes, Revlon photo ready makeup, Estee Lauder eye colour shadow paint... I told you, there have been a few! And I bet I’ve accidentally left a good few other favs off this list too!

27th December, 2018

I haven’t tried many make up products myself this year... but been reading some great reviews on lip products. I haven’t worn a lipstick for over 5 years now... as i didn’t like the idea of reapplying it everytime after a meal. Thanks to BR, i wouldn’t have known how amazing the staying power of some lip products are right now.

I’ve learnt a lot, especially on skin care. I’m getting to know my skin better. Micellar water and Natural skin care really hit the top of my list this year. Looking forward to seeing more great products next year!

27th December, 2018

Oh and I did love the Teddy Lane nails = so classy and easy to use.

27th December, 2018

I didn't find anything particularity big on the make up front in 2018 but a few fab skincare products came into my orbit.

27th December, 2018

Essano was my most tried brand this year, most products I really like except a few duds that didn't work for me. I love mist toner, probably my favourite type of product for 2018.

26th December, 2018

I didn't have one particular product. I brought back stuff from Sephora this year that I loved and it's also been the year of mastering my brows - so quite a few brow products. Last year it was mastering highlighting. I wonder what it will be this coming year?

26th December, 2018

Im loving all the garnier hair food! Also the garnier 3 in 1 charcoal mask is brilliant. I loved my Teddy Lane trials, the Chrome Collection is amazing.

26th December, 2018

I agree with Amelia, I've been loving the Teddy Lane nails. I've already bought two packs and I intend buying more during these Boxing Day sales from Farmers!

26th December, 2018

Always at the top of my list is some Estée Lauder.. but I’ve only been able to afford the advanced eye concentrate after saving a few birthday vouchers to help pay for it eek. Impressed so far and definitely want more. Also still highly in love with the garnier hair food. Loving a lot of my purchases at the moment - it’s been a good year I feel like I’m buying and using at a good rate and haven’t wasted a lot of mone with disappointing purchases. Glad a friend of mine put me on to BR.
