Claw Clips Are Back! (And We're In Love!)

Watching trends from my youth come back round is both bizarre and beautiful. On one hand I'm loving seeing kids strut down the street dressed as I once did; it tickles me no end. On the other hand seeing some of the trends that I thought were done and dusted for good (shimmERy blue eyeshadow) leaves me wondering where we've gone wrong. HOWEVER, one trend I'm loving seeing come back round is the return of the claw clip (also sometimes called a claw grip).

On first glance, one might see it as humble, unassuming even, but the claw clip is the ultimate hair accessory for a variety of reasons. First of all, it doesn't have to be humble. The claw clip can come in a range of colours, from simple tortiseshell or plain black, to gold or glittery, or in shades of pink, purple, blue, making it easy to mix and match a claw grip with whatever your outfit of the day is. They also come in a range of sizes, from itty bitty butterflies that you can use to clip down twists of hair in true 90s style, to chunky sizes that will hold up the heaviest locks.

Style wise, it's not just the 90s skinny hair twist that a claw grip's great for, they're perfect for holding a french twist, or for creating a casual half-up half-down look. They can hold a bun in place, or you can use it as a statement piece when creating a low, slick ponytail.

In the past I used my claw grips to hold my hair back when I was colouring my hair at home and waiting for it to develop. When my long, silver clip that I use to section my hair when I'm straightening it goes missing, a smaller claw clip does a good job of holding the bulk of my hair away from the section I'm working with.

Not only are claw clips great as a hair accessory or tool, they are also fantastic when you find yourself needing to clamp something down. Bag of frozen peas in danger of opening up, causing the little green suckers to roll around the bottom of your freezer? Grab a (clean) claw clip and and close it up. Open bag of macaroni always tipping over sending the little elbows of goodness scattering? Claw clip it! Don't want that bag of chips to go stale? Break out the trusty claw clip.

Even better, if and when the claw clip orbits out of hair accessory style once more, you'll still be able to continue to use them in a kitchen capacity, so they won't end up gathering dust or end up as landfill. Brilliant!

So, are you a claw clip fan? Have you rocked them in the past? Will you rock them in the future? Or is the claw clip a fashion fail for you? Chat below!

I never got into clip claws, but maybe I should - seems very easy!

I never gave up my claw clips. The large ones great for long hair in the shower and the little ones for sectioning your hair to straighten/style. Love my claws

I've just gotten back into using them. Particularly with humidity it's nice having long hair off your neck. Claw clips definitely back and I'm totally loving it!!

Used to use these in the 1990s, and still kept them , so l am in love with them again , they are so easy to use and so stylish!

I've been using these for years! So easy for work and when you don't want that kink in your hair that hair ties give. My hair looks pretty plain with this in but I twist my hair first before clipping and it makes beautiful curls when I take my hair out. My most recent one broke and an octopus clip was cheaper so I bought that but t doesn't work as well-my hair isn't thick enough.

I use mine to keep hair up in shower and off back of my neck in the humidity, very handy.

Used to use them years ago but found hair ties worked better for me because I could never get the clips to stay in place.

I use one every day to pin my hair up in the shower. They’re the best for thick hair. I have a slightly different one called an octopus. I certainly noticed them become a trend at school in the last year or so.

I missed out on this trend the last time it came along, not because I was too young, I just didn't like the look of them, but this time I'm in!

Claw clips are the best, so quick to keep hair off the neck in summer

Claw clip fan for years. Quickest what to get it out of face.

I used a few instead of hair ties I've seen some pretty designs at Kmart definitely used them in the past

I have loads of these babies - the big chunky strong ones for loose do-ups, the mid sizes for soft half do-ups. My hair's really thick and heavy, so hair ties pull too much, damage my hair and hurt my scalp. I just get plain dark ones, as you can't see them under my mop anyway, lol.

I loved claw clips in the 80's and 90's! Wore them heaps!!! Even had a fake ponytail that attached with a claw clip!!!
