Can a toothpaste rebuild tooth enamel - in just three days?

Can a toothpaste rebuild tooth enamel?  A $20 toothpaste says it can rebuild a whopping 82% of tooth enamel.  In just three days!

Newly launched in Selfridges (yes, BR Natalie loves Selfridges), the Regenerate Enamel Science Advanced Toothpaste by Unilever, contains calcium silicate and sodium phosphate to essentially re-build a new layer of white enamel on the teeth.

Tooth enamel is damaged on a daily basis by consumption of things like fizzy drinks, wine and even fruit and vegetables  And whilst many parts of the body like skin, hair and nails will regenerate, when tooth enamel is gone, it's gone.  Which is a same considering it protects our teeth from decay.

So how does this rather expensive toothpaste work?  Think of it like plastering a wall.  The toothpaste contains the same minerals tooth enamel is made of, these fill the teeny tiny holes and damage in the tooth enamel, leaving teeth smooth and three times as strong.  Teeth will be less likely to develop cavities and will be restored to their original whiteness.

Now the toothpaste is not meant to be used alone.  For optimum results a Boosting Serum will need to be used once a month, in two custom fit mouth trays.  The serum will set you back another $60.

The company is presenting the toothpaste as a beauty product that will sit alongside expensive age-defying creams and potions.

Despite the rather large price tag, we can see this toothpaste flying off the shelves, especially in a society where bad teeth are something people are judged on.

So over to you.  What do you think of the Regenerate Enamel Science Advanced Toothpaste and it's claims?  Do your teeth knock your confidence and is this something you would pay a premium price to rectify?  More importantly, can a consumer product really do what dentists can't, and mend your teeth?

I'm skeptical but really keen. Smoking and rrd wine have damaged my already soft enamel and I'm yet another who is terrified of the dentist.

Hmmmm at that price tho? Wow!!! Who on earth could afford that, I mean if you'd need the two, that's $80 and how long is that going to last??

I recently went to the dentist for a check up and I brush my teeth the wrong way. I scrub my teeth always have, but it can do damage to the gums.. So now I hold my tooth brush vertically and brush each one.

I am missing my Oral B electric brush. So I'm gonna have to fork out for that.

I would love a toothpaste that is made for gums, as they help hold our teeth in. (aswel as the tooths root)

If it truly works it's worth the price as dental treatments are much more expensive. It would be interesting to see what it's like on my sensitive teeth?

For someone who finds dental visits terrifying I would love to try this! Even better if it does what it's says.

Very keen to hear how this stuff works out for people. I have severely sensitive teeth and a huge fear of the dentist due to the major pain I have endured. Anything that can help this sounds worthwhile.

I've had pretty good teeth and only a handful of cavities. So this isn't top of my priority list and by the time my enamel is worn down this will either have proved it's claims or be another marketing scheme. If the product did work and my precious enamel was on the decline I would pay more for it. But I thankfully although a trip to the dentist is waaay overdue. I never liked fizzy drinks (handy when that bottle of coke, beer or fanta is missing from the fridge you're never on the flatmate's list of suspects plus drinking water is better for the skin, teeth and wallet) and dental hygiene is one I never cared to slack off in. If I had the money for extensive dental work in ten years time. I'd rather spend the thousands on laser skin resurfacing or a vacation rather than getting my teeth drilled and filled.

I'm always skeptical of products that claim to 'whiten teeth' and haven't come across anything (this cheap) that actually works. I'd give it a go if I was given the chance, but I doubt I'd buy it based on previous experience with other products that promise and rarely deliver

Hmmm... will have to give this a try, I tried a really expensive toothbrush with the paste built in and it didnt last long and did not do what it said.... will this be coming into supermarkets, or pharmacys?

16th June, 2014

I'm keen to try it. Anyone know where you can purchase it from?

Hmmm, this is an interesting read. My dentist told me I have soft teeth, which means my enamel will eventually wear right down no matter how well I take care of my teeth. Would be awesome to try this out, or at least see some feedback as I'd most likely buy this product if I read some real positive reviews!

I think $20 is very affordable and if I do notice some results, I would probably go for the serum too as it's only used once a month and could be saved for a long time. I always worry my teeth are wearing down and I'll need a filling - this is the answer.

16th June, 2014

Well I'd love to see if this actually works and how even it would be, might be quite interesting :)

16th June, 2014

I'd like to see if it does actually work!!

Omg I sooooo need this. My teeth are so weak which has caused them to be sensitive. I just spent almost 2 grand at the dentist getting a whopping 10 fillings! So anything that may help strengthen my teeth i'm all for! It almost sounds too good to be true, but for $20 I think it's worth a try. Fingers crossed I can get on the trial team for this one

If this worked, then I would definitely try it out! I think my enamel is starting to wear away already and I would love to keep my real teeth as long as possible!
