24 Signs You're A Makeup Addict

'Gosh, that's a lot of makeup.'

'How much makeup do you need to bring for a night away?'

'Didn't you just buy a lipstick last week?'

Innocous sentences on the surface, to be sure, but despite the seemingly innocence of them, you can't help but pick up on the undertone. The slight judginess. The 'I think you have a problem' edge to the words.

You laugh the questions off with flippant comments...

'A lot of makeup? No, there's so much more I could buy.'

'It's only two makeup bagsl. I nearly packed a third. This is me being restrained.'

'Yes, I bought a lipstick last week. But this is a slightly different shade. And this one's a touch warmer. So, you know, it's totally different.'

But you know what your subtle accuser is thinking. That you have a problem. That you don't know when to stop. That you might well be addicted to makeup. Are you?

Read these 24 signs and decide for yourself.

1. You don't need a makeup bag, or a cubby hole, you need shelves, or a whole room, to fit your collection.

2. You have to give yourself a pep talk when it's time to throw away an old product. And even then you might shed a few tears and say a short speech.

3. You have three shades of blusher that some might say are exactly that same colour, but you know, deep down, they're wrong. They're all different. They're all necessary. And no one can convince you otherwise.

4. The same goes for lipstick... because if you look closely enough you see tonal variation... which makes it a whole different shade of lipstick, and therefore a must for your collection.

5. When people comment on the size of your collection you're quick to justify it by mentioning that you don't have any other vices. No smoking. No drinking. No cocaine inhaling.

6. You've bought an entire eyeshadow palette because it had one shade that you loved.

7. You've bought an entire eyeshadow palette filled with shades you're sure you already have, but you've bought every other palette from the brand and you don't want the other palettes feeling sad because they're missing a member of their family.

8. You're so passionate about makeup you could hold an hour-long Ted Talk on how makeup brings meaning and joy to one's life.

9. You need more than one jar to hold all your makeup brushes.

10. When people say they've never heard of a BeautyBlender you're genuinely shocked.

11. When people say they don't wear makeup your head spins.

12. When people say they don't see the point of makeup you need to sit down and breathe, very deeply.

13. When you go on holiday half your suitcase is filled with makeup.

14. Ticking 'carry-on only' when you fly is never an option - even if you're only going for a weekend away.

15. When a company whose products you can only buy online has released a limited edition anything you've been ready to buy it bang on time - even if that means waking up at 5am... and the 'refresh page' button on your computer is dented from the workout you've given it.

16. You're in the makeup area of your local department store so often the customer service people have started stalking you like they think you're about to shoplift something.

17. Now that the customer service people at your local department store know you're not a thief, you're great mates. They know your name, your partners name, your favourite makeup brands, and what part of the monthly cycle you're in at any given time.

18. When you drop an eyeshadow/bronzer/blush you have a minor panic attack when you consider that it might be broken.

19. ... You then have a major panic attack when you pick it up and it is in fact broken.

20. Other people binge watch Netflix shows. You binge watch beauty tutorials.

21. You know so much about your favourite beauty gurus you're pretty sure if you met you'd be insta-besties.

22. You think a light makeup day involves only putting on primer, foundation, blush, bronzer, highlighter, eyeshadow, eyeliner and mascara.

23. When a cosmetics store has opened you've been in line so you can be one of the first to go in... or next level, you've camped out over night.

24. If any of your friends told you that you might want to curb or cut out your makeup habit you'd cut them from your life.

There you have it... 24 ways to tell how far your makeup addiction has gone. Count up your answers and let's see where you fit on the scale of things:

0-8 - You're fine. Good as gold! In fact, you might need to work on your makeup love.

9-16 You've a good attitude to makeup. You know it has its benefits. You know it's a bit of fun. But you don't see the point in buying all the things.

17-24 Hey new bestie! Secret soul mate! Your love for makeup knows no bounds! More is more! As long as it's not sending you broke then keep up the good work!

Do tell beauties... are you makeup mad? Are you cool with cosmetics? Or are you not even remotely going gaga for the greasepaint? Chat away!

A girl can never have enough lipstick, so many shades to go with our outfits. And mascara still trying to find THE ONE all have their pros and cons though some have come close lol.

5th April, 2018

I scored 0-8, a fine but looking in my makeup drawer you would think I am more likely to be a 9-16 because if I brought anymore makeup my drawer would be overflowing onto the floor lol

I love it! This article is so funny because it’s so true!!i love the pretty packaging, the gift with purchase, the hours I can spend at the makeup counters!!

25th March, 2018

I love make up yes apparently not an addict but I would say it is a big hobby of mine and I look at it all the time

24th March, 2018

Yes! This is mostly me, I'm not quite all there yet

21st March, 2018

An 8 today. Teenage me would've scored 14. I didn't just haul my makeup bag around for a weekend. A bag that weighed at least 2 kgs and only had makeup was always in my backpack every single time I left the house. No I never changed my eyelook up in the ladies' room while out on a trip to the mall to probably buy more makeup, but for some reason I thought it pertinent to lug 15 poor quality single eyeshadows around with me and one poor quality eyeshadow brush (years later found out it was a lip brush) and then heaps of horrible lip products a couple of which were definitely expired at the time of purchase. Oh those days! I loved makeup but didn't know how to apply it and what I needed so kept wasting money buying more poor quality stuff. Eyeshadows would crease so bad and lipglosses stung. That's what happens when you buy super cheap makeup by the fistfuls from a pop store in Asian malls.

I’m guilty of a number of these. My weak spot is for eyeshadow pallets and lips. How many nude lipstick can one person have?! I sheepishly say me! I havelarge cosmetic bag that just fits into my bag, because I never no what shade I need to go with my OOTD.

I'm in the good zone.... I am more of a skincare addict rather than makeup.... a mask or scrub temptation is hard to resist!

20th March, 2018

OMG I'm proud of myself...four years ago I would have been a 15-17 buy now I'm a 4...I'll admit that it still aches a little thinking about how big and beautiful my old collection was but I'm happier knowing that it's receiving love from the ladies I have it all away too :-)

20th March, 2018

I do love makeup but can't afford to be super addicted! I have to consider each purchase very carefully, even though I still visit department stores/Mecca/pharmacies every second day to play with makeup samples.

20th March, 2018

I'm good - but skincare is where things can really spiral out of control

20th March, 2018

9. I'm good :p

20th March, 2018

I'm good. Skincare is where I seem to go overboard, also lipbalms. But I really do need 10 in case I misplace one lol.

20th March, 2018

i'm happy where I sit with a 9. Not bad.

20th March, 2018

I'm OK but probably should buy more to be honest.

Know the feeling. I'm always misplacing lip balms so I now always have a couple on the go.

I'm more of a skincare junkie than a makeup junkie but to be fair you pan through skincare much quicker. Never been a lipbalm collector, lipbalm is only something I buy when I've run out, need free shipping or that gwp.

Every trip into the city, I visit Mecca it's two minute walk from the central bus station and I always walk in with my list of products I want to swatch, sniff, try out or samples of, etc. There's a lot of sighing over the items I like

tannygirl

but know I can't afford once I leave the store. To be fair most items I don't need but the heart wants what it wants.
