Vixen War Paint Review

Simply the best!

I started bleaching and coloring my hair and decided to steer away from my regular brand and try the Vixen War Paint range. The tubes are bigger than alot of other brands and cheaper too.

I tried a bunch of colors because I know some colors hold better than others. Ever colour I tried outlasted every brand I had used previously by weeks. I couldn't believe how bright and vibrant my hair was after so many washes. I would only really need touch it up when sorting my regrowth. You also dont need to use much. I had long hair and one tube would last me a couple months.

With all the bleaching I was doing at home, my hair took a beating sometimes leaving it awfully dry. After using Vixen War Paint my hair felt like I had just used a hair treatment. My hair felt so soft and hydrated. That was enough to get me hooked.

Long lasting, bright, vibrant colours. Hydration and at a cheap price. Vixen War Paint is number one for me when it comes to bright unatural hair color.

Tips: More of a secret. Ive had hairdressers laugh at me when Id tell them how I got my pastel colors, but its all true. Any color of this range can be made pastel or lighter just by adding some conditioner. That's how I got all my pastel and lighter colors. add a little colour to aloy of conditioner. You will see the shade your hair will be in the bowel. The tube will also last 5x longer

Great tip. I wanted to try a more pastel colour so I'll have to try that.

*VOLT*

When I first saw this in the vault I knew I needed this in my collection! I love shades that are deep, and a little darker (This shade surprised me). From the picture I thought it was a stoney looking colour, much to my surprise it wasn't!

This fierce wee leopard print cannister holds a beautiful grey/purple shade of lipstick. It glides on flawlessly without needing to line the lip.

The colour on the lip is a grey with purple tinge. A surprisingly soft deep colour but also a perfect bold colour!

Long lasting definitely! A 6 hour wear time frame I needed to touch it up once after a few wines :)

I can't wait to create a look for this lippy. It's a perfect going out shade of Lippy.

Sadly I couldn't find it on their website! Will be a sad day if this shade is no longer available?! Awesome to see this a New Zealand brand made in our very own Wellington :)

Contact the company, they do custom colours as well onsite

It looks a very interesting shade Amy!!

great review amy, i'm curious now!

I couldn't find it on their website either. Maybe it is a new shade and they haven't updated their website.

Dot - Pretty Spring Scent if Only it lasted Longer

I used to be the girl that bought perfume from only one or two brands. That was until I discovered minis. At $10 for 4ml bottle I had to put this my cart. First of all the bottle is really cute. The mini comes in a small black box with red polka dots. The design of the mini is a clear round bottle with the iconic red butterfly top with the black dots on the wings and one big black ball in the center. As far as minis go this is one of the cutest bottles in my collection. The top comes off easily but is easy to put back on. Now for the fragrance, back when I was stuck on only one or two fragrance houses this iconic bottle caught my eye and I had to try it. I quickly became the one Marc Jacobs fragrance I liked. However the lasting power of the perfume made it difficult for me to justify spending almost $100 on a full-sized bottle. I'm pretty picky about perfume, mainly because it's so expensive so if I am going to fork over my hard saved cash the fragrance better smell absolutely gorgeous on me and last for hours like an expensive fragrance should. I really love the light floral scent upon application I detect a light honeysuckle and fruity notes dragon fruit and a light coconut scent. This fades into more light floral notes and the end note is a very light vanilla. I love this fragrance but unfortunately it doesn't last longer than a two hours on me, so I can't justify spending almost $100 on full-sized bottle. Even though it's an EDP it seems to have the lasting power of an EDT. I have gotten a lot of use out of the mini and so I will probably repurchase another mini when this one runs out but I don't think I'll splurge on the full-size. I wish Marc Jacobs would produce a longer-lasting version of this pretty fragrance with the same notes but not adding more musk since I'm not a fan of musk.

Tips: I highly recommend getting minis. Minis also make pretty gifts and stocking stuffers. The mini for this bottle doesn't seem to leak so great mini for your purse although the cap is rather big so keep that in mind.

Thanks, I've actually been looking to get minis for a couple of perfumes so will check it out.

Oh wait I bought it from the minis section on http://www.smellycat.co.nz. I just checked and they still have it. I was thinking of a gwp I got when I spent over a certain amount from the site. I got another fragrance sample but it wasn't Dot.

I think I might have been given that one as a gwp from Smellycat.

Great idea, where do you buy your minis from?

It didn't last for me either Tannygirl! Great review.

LA Colors 5 Color Metallic Eyeshadow Wine & Roses Review

Wine & Roses

The LA Colors "Wine & Roses" palette is really pretty and contains five metallic eyeshadows. Now, if you're used to wearing subtle or matte eyeshadows, don't be scared off by the word metallic, this does not mean in your face glitter or shimmer, it's just a subtle shine in the colour.

The five round eyeshadows are packaged in a rectangular plastic case that feels quite flimsy, like the lid is going to break off at the hinges before I'm even halfway through using this, so be gentle with it when you open it. The black plastic base also holds a dual ended sponge eyeshadow applicator (which I haven't used, as I prefer brushes) and the lid is a clear, see-through plastic with "L.A. Colors" printed onto it in silver.

The first time I used this palette, I was disappointed. The colours didn't pop, they were very subtle and they creased but then I remembered that I'd forgotten to use an eyeshadow primer that morning! So off I went to play around a little. I tried them with both an eyeshadow primer and with a light coloured cream eyeshadow that I don't like using but keep to use as an eyeshadow base and the colours seriously popped! What a difference!

The first colour in the palette is a pale, off-white pink with hardly any sheen to it, so it's great to use as a highlighter under the brow or in the inner corner of the eye. Colour number 2 is a metallic dusty rose pink, the middle colour is more of a pinky bronze colour and the last two colours are both purple; a metallic lavender and a metallic deep purple.

So far, I'm really impressed. It almost feels wrong for a product this cheap to be this good! The colours last all day when used with an eyelid primer or cream eyeshadow base, they don't crease and they apply smooth with only a little fall out if there's too much loaded onto the brush.

Would I recommend or repurchase this? Yes! The only downfall about this product is the flimsy feeling plastic hinges (I deducted a point for this).

Tips: Definitely use an eyeshadow primer or cream eyeshadow as a base before applying these. It'll make the colours pop, they'll last all day and won't crease!

Lush Blue Skies and Fluffy White Cloud Review

Very Fluffy Skies

Blue Skies and Fluffy White Cloud Bubble Bar is a blue and white swirled bubble bar. It is the standard bubble bar size at Lush, so I cut it into 4 quarters although I could probably cut it up more.

When you crumble it into the bath water it turns the bath water slightly blue. So if you want a bubble bar that doesn't turn your water different colours this is the bubble bar for you. To match the blue skies water, the bubbles are then white fluffy clouds.

As I say in all my bubble bar reviews spa jets are the best from creating endless long lasting bubbles, but agitating the bath water does work too. However when you are cutting the bubble bar into bits, you do see less effect when agitating the water with your arms.

This bubble bar does often leave some blue or purple residue on the bath but it is easily wiped away. It also makes your bathroom smell like cinnamon for a day.

Haha thanks :)

Clever! I didn't think of the bubbles being white fluffy clouds until I read your review :)

Estee Lauder DayWear BB antioxidant beauty benefit creme Review

EL BB Cream

I got a couple of these BB creams in a bunch of samples I was given.

So first off as a sample, I throught they were reasonably sized and getting more than 1 was awesome.

As a product, the Estee Lauder Day Wear BB Antioxidant Beauty Benefit Cream has the most ridiculous, long winded name ever. But it is a great product. It is light weight, so it doesn't feel like you are wearing any make up, but still gives about medium coverage. It also has SPF protection, which combined with being lightweight makes it a perfect BB cream for summer, but even in winter its a useful BB cream to have.

The BB cream is also moisturising. I wouldn't say it makes the skin look flawless but it certainly gives it a smoother look. And of course it protects your skin both from the sun and from dry skin.

It also lasted well over the course of the day.

While it is a lovely product, the shades choices weren't fantastic and it isn't so much better than other BB creams that I could justify its price tag.

Yikes, glad I chose against buying the full sized product.

I found mine separated in the tube - not ideal for something so expensive!

The Body Shop Mojito Body Butter Review

My kind of cocktail

I always tell my friends that I won’t recommend a body butter that I haven’t finished or know I won’t finish. I have been using this product for 2 weeks and I’ve gone through 1/3 of it already – I love it.

I’m not a huge fan of The Body Shop body butters because a lot of the delicious names that are plastered on the generous size tubs make my nose wrinkle with the exception of Grapeseed (discontinued). So when I spotted BR member 'itsclearascrystal's rave review (below) I had to go out and try it plus I’m a person who enjoys a good mojito or 4.

When you first smell the tub (without testing) it’s not too far off from smelling a mojito when it’s served to you. Yes I smell my mojitos because it gives me a good indication on whether or not I’ll enjoy it (light mint – passable, strong mint – epic!). The product has a strong minty scent and on the tail of that scent is a somewhat sour dose of citrus lime *ahhhhhhhh – thinks of the Fresh Up ad*.

In comparison to Grapeseed, the texture of this body butter is to some extent softer and it doesn’t take me long to warm it up between my hands. When I apply the product on my body you get the full effect of the scent and it smells divine. I found that this body butter was more hydrating and moisturising than Grapeseed (even though Grapeseed wasn’t that great in either department).

One of the cons I have is that the fragrance doesn't last as long as I would like, maybe 2 or 3 hours at the most - it would be great if I could still detect it lingering on the skin but it's very very faint. It could possibly perform better in summer when the heat could intensify the scent on the skin.

Another con is that despite my efforts to work it into my skin I feel that the product just sits on top. I’m quite thorough when it comes to working in the product (or so I thought) but when I’m in the shower I can feel the product washing right off. I don’t recall that happening with Grapeseed and I don’t believe I use a lot – yes I’ve gone through quite a bit already but I use it every day and night. However do these cons bother me enough not to repurchase? Absolutely not.

Perfect For Summer

I fell in love with this from the first time I smelt it. It was light minty deliciousness and the perfect cool summer body butter.

I couldn't smell a lot of lime, but the fresh mint came through loud and clear. What impressed me most was how the smell really did remind me of a nice cold Mojito.

The body butter itself was smooth, soothing and hydrating like pretty much every body shop body butter. And lasted pretty well.

The packaging was the standard plastic round body butter container full of product inside.

I only regret I didn't buy more being limited edition.

Awesome :) they sure are.

I managed to pick one up it smells crazy delicious!!

Gasp! Well I'll be on the hunt tomorrow - can only try thank you for sharing :-)

I was actually in The Body Shop last week expressing my disappointment that this range was gone and the sales assistant told me that some stores still have the body butter and the body sorbet. So I may have to see if I can find one in a store near me

Gosh darn it! I was excited about this product and then I read those dreaded 2 words "limited edition"!? Haha.

Lush The Comforter Shower Cream Review

Snows Fairy's sexier, sassier sister...

This is my first time using Lush 'The Comforter' shower gel, after years of being a Snow Fairy fan and - I have to say - I think I'm switching teams. Snow Fairy is gorgeously girly but The Comforter is like a grown up version of the same product in many ways. Have you ever seen the movie '10 things I hate about you'? It's a fave of mine, and that was the comparison I drew to start with. Snow Fairy is Bianca... girly, sweet, thought to be too much by some but pretty and with hidden depths. The Comforter is Kat - more mature, darker, but with a hidden sweetness.

The Comforter Shower Cream comes in the signature Lush bottle; clear plastic with a black and white graphic font label featuring the Lush Logo. This is a bright, opaque berry pink - I'd actually love a lipstick in this shade! The cream is very very thin - it's a little hard to hold in your hand, so i would recommend a shower pouf here. It has a shimmery finish to it, and can be quite mesmerising in the shower in the early morning haha.

It lathers a little and gets pink EVERYWHERE...don't let the kids loose with this one. The pink does wash away even though it initially looks like it has stained skin and shower... there is a residue of pink left for a moment but that rinses off easily enough.

The scent is divine. It's Snow Fairy plus - a deeper, darker, sexier version of the bright pink in-your-face-ness of SF. The scent clings to skin and scents you beautifully. I'm in love.

I need this in my life more. What a discovery <3

Tips: like i said, use a pouf, or just a little at a time, and make sure you rinse the shower out! Other than that, it's gorgeous, glorious, and a must-have

Was this review useful to you? Yes No

hehe Amy it was honestly the first thing that came to mind <3

I love how you compared it to the sisters in '10 things I hate about you'!

If I had to choose I think I would have to go for Comforter over Snow Fairy tbh

I see what you mean about it being the darker sexier snow fairy. I don't think I could pick a favourite out of the two.

it is Macs. It really is.

Now I want I want this more than ever lol Sounds amazing!

Baby Lotion

This will probably come as no surprise but this baby lotion is for me (I also don't have kids). Given that my skin has its sensitive moments a lotion that is designed for a baby's sensitive skin is also really good for my sensitive skin.

For me this product is a more keep in the cupboard for the skin playing up moments as oppose to an everyday lotion. I really don't like the baby fresh scent because it feels a bit weird to me when I'm the one using it.

It is really gentle on the skin and absorbs quickly. And is in a nice practical and not gender neutral bottle. The lotion is not too thick or too thin in consistancy and is nice and creamy. It also stays this way in an opened bottle for a long time which is great.

Basically this is a lovely gentle lotion for those times when I need something a little more gentle.

That should be some nice tlc for them.

After reading the reviews I've bought some to try on my feet!
