L'Oreal Magique

Eek, I was insanely excited to be selected for this trial! I had heard mixed reviews about cushion foundations but proofs in the pudding, right!? First off, the packaging is too toot but really different for L'Oreal! Its a round compact with a light pink plastic base & the top is a light purple, metallic finish. There is a sticker on the top with branding but other than the number being on the wee security tab, which you remove, you wouldn't know what colour it is. That won't be too hard to remember though because we only have 6 colour options in New Zealand. (This really limits the options for darker or lighter skin tones & cooler or warmer tones!). There is a really convenient mirror under the lid. There is also a round puff applicator that sits in the inner lid. The foundation is held inside a sponge (cushion). All I could think about was... hmmm, how will I keep this applicator clean! I think compared to my other foundation sizes of 30mls, this being only 12mls makes is quite spensy! That's the negatives now the positives. I love that it is light weight & easy to transport. I decided that if I was to do a true review that it was important to use the applicator, following the instructions under the base of the container, I pressed the applicator into the sponge and was really surprised at how much product load there was, it was really wet! Instructions say to tap the product on so away I went, tapping like a tap dancer! I chose shade 03 vanilla (which I don't think is quite cool tone enough for me), it looked so much darker in the sponge! OOOOH, it doesn't really have a fragrance, big bonus for me! I did one layer to check coverage and texture. It definitely looked dewy with decent light coverage. I applied another layer and then concentrated on areas where I consistently have break down of product. I am quite impressed with how it covers my broken capillaries and it makes my skin look fresh but what I love most is that is looks like healthy skin, it doesn't look or feel like you have a couple of layers of foundation on. It’s really buildable and blendable. My skin is really dry so I always add a drop of serum to my foundation but this formula is perfect for my dry skin and although it gives a dewi/glowy finish, it wasn't over the top for me. I tried it with and without setting powder and decided that I prefer it with, just to take down some of the glow under my eyes. I found it slightly tacky but just waited a few minutes for to settle prior to applying the rest of my makeup. It holds together quite well, though there was some break down around my nose and chin, no biggy. I will definitely be purchasing for myself!

Tips: Always have a good, clean base prior to applying. Give the sponge applicator a go at least once because it gives an air brushed look and its purpose built for the job... and then use your beauty blender or flat top brush for future apps. DO NOT STICK YOUR CHUBBY SAUSAGES IN TO THE SPONGE...EWW, GERMS! LOL

Very good review. Shame about the limited shades available though. I hope they do more shades in the future.

My On The Go, Go To

I was lucky enough to get picked to trial this product, so thank you BR.

The L’Oréal Paris Nude Magique Cushion Foundation is a liquid foundation in a compact.

The compact is a light purple colour and has layers. When you open the compact you get the mirror and the applicator puff. Open the next layer and you get the foundation which is initally covered by a seal to keep the foundation contained I assume. Once the seal is open you discover that the liquid foundation is under a sponge. To get the foundation out, you simply press down on the sponge with the applicator puff and you will get a reasonable amount of foundation on the puff.

When applying the foundation with the puff L'Oréal recommends a tap and glide motion, with one to three taps depending on how much coverage you want to build up. And particularly when first applying the foundation to your face, I find this technique really useful.

The coverage of this foundation is as stated light to medium, being buildable. This means it is a weightless foundation on the face, but can still conceal to an extent. Obviously if you have a pimple lets say, you are also going to need to use concealer to conceal it. But the foundation definitely helps disguise it. In terms of consistancy, it was a thinish liquidy foundation. What you'd expect I think from a light to medium coverage foundation. The finish of the foundation on your skin is quite dewy, which does give you a natural glow. However if you are already quite a glowy person you can easily combat it with a matte powder on top. Which does bring me to finishing powder. I tested this foundation with and without finishing powders and primer. I found with these things the foundation did last longer, but not actually that much longer than without. Which in terms of longevity was maybe 6 hours of decent coverage on average for me. Though it could be more or less depending on things such as physical activity or how you apply it.

After finishing applying my foundation, my only gripe is that I was left with a hard to clean applicator puff, because even though I clean it after each use it doesn't seem to clean up that well. Please feel free to comment below if you have found a way to make it look like a new puff again.

A final thing to consider is cost. If you look at other foundation compacts from similar brands, they are similar prices. So I think it is a fair price.

I think it is a great foundation and it has finally given me a foundation. It does what it says: it's a weightless light to medium buildable liquid foundation that you can use at home or on the go. I really like it for that on the go aspect in particular as that is something a lot of foundations don't do all that well in terms of how they package their product.

Tips: I would use this compact for travelling. It feels way less likely to spill than my pump bottle foundation which has lost it's lid in my bag before. The mirror also makes it a great foundation to have when you're out and about because you have a mirror to apply it with.

New favourite!

I was lucky enough to be chosen for the trial team for this product. I selected a light colour on myself (03 vanilla). The first thing I noticed about this product was the packaging. The light, plastic exterior and interior made the product look quite cute, but cheap. Unfortunately, as someone who usually loves the appearance of high end products, this was a little bit of a let down.

I was also not a huge fan of the applicator puff. Stiff and hard to navigate around the face (like next to my nose and stuff), I ended up sort of cheating by using my brushes and blending sponge in the end instead.

However, the product itself was truly great. It's definitely a super light coverage foundation (perfect for me, I hate high coverage), and glides on smoothly onto the skin, leaving you with lightly covered, but luminous, even skin. I love how it leaves my skin dewy and glowing! It feels incredibly weightless, and I'm quite sure it lasted all day on my face!

I also love how the sponge feature makes sure you never get too much product, it evenly covers your applicator every time.

Despite being disappointed with the packaging, I think I will be repurchasing! To be honest, this is one of my favourite foundations to date!

An Amazing Foundation

PACKAGING: It is housed in a convenient compact, great to travel with or keep in your handbag for touch-ups. It was a good size mirror as well. It comes with a sponge applicator to apply the foundation with. The overall look is very appealing. APPLICATION: Day 1 - I used a pore minimizing primer over the t-zone, I applied the foundation using the supplied sponge applicator. The foundation applied well over the skin on all areas of the face. However it was abit tricky getting into some areas of the face e.g. nose/ eye areas using the sponge and so application took slightly longer to apply making sure the foundation was even across the face. Day 2 - I used a pore minimizing primer and applied the foundation using an xobeauty flat top face brush. I found it was a quicker application using the brush over the sponge the day before. It applied evenly across the face by pressing the bristles of the brush into the skin then a light buff over. Day 3 - I used a pore minimizing primer, I used my beauty blender to apply the foundation. The foundation applied with ease and evenly across the face. Day 4 - I really wanted to test it with out any primer. I applied the foundation using the supplied sponge applicator. I noticed immediately it emphasized my pores!! And after 3 hours of wear it was breaking around the nose and the chin area. Day 5 - I applied a pore minimizing primer to the t-zone and the MENS Nivea Post Shave balm to all other areas of the face. I used the xobeauty flat top face brush to press the foundation into the skin and then went over top with a damp beauty blender. This was by far the best way in my opinion to apply this foundation. It went on with ease and evenly. It held up on the skin for a good 8 hours. NOTE: Only used setting powder to under eye area and on cheeks and top of forehead to blend bronzer, contour and blush on all 5 days or trial. No Setting sprays were used.

OVERALL: A great foundation!! L'Oreal have done it again. I love their Pro Matte and now this Nude Magique Cushion. It has great coverage and the beauty of it is that it is customizable, if you like a sheer, medium or full coverage it's so easy to build up to the desired application. I believe it would be a great little compact for those starting out in makeup. I love the overall finish it gives and how easy it is to apply. As for wear, it would last between 5-6 hours but with using the Nivea post shave balm as a primer it lasted a good 8 hours. I should imagine it would last longer if a setting powder and or setting spray was used. It never looked cakey throughout the day either. I loved my Smashbox Studio Skin 15hr wear hydrating foundation which RRP $76.00 and in my personal opinion this L'Oreal Paris Nude Magique Cushion Foundation is on even parr for a more affordable price of $33.99. My shade: 07 Golden Beige

Tips: If you have DRY skin: I cansee this being a little gem for you, it feels hydrating on the face and lightweight. If you are OILY skin: I would suggest using matte primers, setting powders and sprays to prolong the wear of the foundation.

Great new foundation format!

I was lucky enough to be selected by BR to trial this new Loreal foundation. I selected the shade Porcelain 01 as that was the most complementary for my skin tone. This foundation is in a totally different format to anything I've ever used before. You take the little applicator sponge and press it against the cushion and you apply it like you would with a normal foundation applicator wedge. This foundation, I think, is most like a liquid foundation. Because of the cushion you don't get too much out at once so there's no wastage of product. The packaging is really pretty and cute and the mirror is a good size. I used this foundation on my skin with only a moisturiser underneath, no primer. Even though I didn't use a primer it lasted well all day on my skin so I was impressed by that. It has good coverage the first coat gives you light coverage but another coat and you have a really good medium coverage. This foundation sat really well on my skin and blended in beautifully. The colour of the foundation was pretty good and it definitely gave me a natural healthy glow as the product claimed it would. I was using a MAC liquid foundation prior to this so I thought it would be hard to satisfy my expectations but they have been well exceeded. I really enjoyed trialling this foundation and will definitely be using it until it runs out. I would repurchase this foundation and will be interested to see how long this compact lasts.

My New Favourite Foundation

I haven't used this type of foundation before. I usually use a BB cream for every day and foundation for evening/special occasions.

The size of the compact is perfect as it can easily be carried in your hand bag for a quick touch up when you're out and about. The foundation itself feels amazing when you apply it to your skin. It feels extremely light but you can easily see the coverage as you apply it. One of the reasons I usually wear a BB cream is because it is quick and easy to apply and looks quite natural. The L'Oreal Paris Nude Magique Cushion Foundation was extremely quick & easy to apply with the applicator puff and it can be as light or heavy as you want to apply it.

I think it has a much better coverage than a BB cream as it has a more even look and appears more finished, funnily enough like a foundation ;-).

I think this product will be very popular and I would definitely recommend trying it out.

Tips: No, it's so easy and straightforward to use - can't go wrong.

This is wonderful, versatile and lasting finish

The Korean cushion foundation craze had me hooked at hello! when I saw that L'Oreal and now more brands are gearing up with their own cushion foundations I was super keen to give it ago. So when I saw these released I jumped online straight away and grabbed the lightest shade keeping my fingers crossed that it would match my skin, which it has beautifully.

Shade: Porcelain

The packaging is adorable in a light pink plastic tub that has a high shiny metallic effect pink lid that snaps firmly shut, opened up to reveal the insert of a mirror on the other side of the lid, and the 2nd pull up lid that hides the cushion to make double sure that it refrains from drying out, on top of the 2nd lid sits a small but effective sponge puff applicator that allows for 3 of my fingers to snugly fit under the purple toned ribbon that is attached to help stable application.

Formula wise the sponge once pressed lightly with the applicator quickly lets up enough foundation to leave a shiny coat on the underside of application, that then stays wet long enough to bounce across your face without dragging. The bouncing action adds the foundation in a layer that is sheet but flawless as it acts like airbrushing. Want more depth to your foundation then go around for layer 2 or even 3, the formula is such that it doesn't get caked up which is an awesome feature for versatility. I have been able to wear this foundation non stop for the past 3 weeks now and that has been light for daytime wear and heavy for evenings when I have gone out with the hubby, that is asking a lot of a foundation that is under $40!!!

There is no transfer from face to clothes, no break down from oils on my face, well after several hours there is if I haven't used a primer underneath but with it nothing got through for the length of wear. Colour wise it was spot on for me not to pink or orange but not yellow either.

No sign at this stage of my sponge becoming dry so estimate another 2-3 weeks at least of use left, if not more. I will be repurchasing this once the sponge does get dry and I have used it all up, as I find myself reaching for this everyday even over my holy grail UD Naked skin which is my favourite ever. Who would of thought a "drugstore" brand would come up trumps with this foundation which does from the outside appear very gimmicky.

L'Oreal Paris Nude Magique Foundation - Magic!

Cute packaging - pretty at first glance. Slightly fiddly in that you have to open two lids and then peel back a sealant layer, but it’s worth it. Using the pad supplied, the foundation is not-sticky or powdery to apply, has no odour and does not cake onto the face. My 43-year old skin can sometimes look more lined than ever with some foundations, but not this one. It neutralises freckles and uneven skin tone, looks very natural, and is light on the skin and does not cake. Looks very natural and leaves skin breathing and fresh.

A great foundation that I will continue to use, post review and into the future. Suitable for day or night – will definitely recommend to friends and family and anyone who doesn’t like traditional foundations for their heaviness and dryness. Great product!

My second skin.

First of all a huge thank you to Beauty Review for putting me on this trial - I would have been too scared to try this foundation without knowing what it was like first, and if you hadn't put me on the trial I wouldn't have discovered just how amazing it is.

I chose the shade 03 Vanilla and it's spot on perfect for my skin. Seriously, the only way I can tell where my skin is compared to the foundation is by looking for my imperfections.

The packaging on this foundation is so cute. A round compact in purple with reflective purple lettering. You pop the top to find the sponge applicator and below that is another compartment with the cushion and the foundation.

Initially I found the sponge hard to work with, but now I spread my three fingers out and it works a dream when I apply the product in a pat and roll motion. I've also tried using the product with a brush but the application was streaky and not as flawless as when used with the sponge.

The coverage is light and a little bit buildable. Basically it's amazing on good skin days, but on not so good skin days you'll need to use a concealer on blemishes. What I love most is that It leaves my skin looking perfectly dewy and fresh - like a better version of itself.

The only downside I see is that it's quite a small amount of product for the price - however if it lasts as long as my other foundations tend to do this won't bother me.

I will definitely be repurchasing and will also look into the other Lumi products - if they're as good as this I'll be set.

Tips: Press the sponge into the foundation and then pat and roll it on your face for a flawless look.
