After hunting for a pretty pale pink lipstick that wasn't too "Barbie" pink, I came across Maybelline Super Stay 14hr in "Perpetual Peony" (#005).
Perpetual Peony is a cool-toned pale pink with lavender undertones and can be quite a difficult colour to pull off, depending on what you're wearing. But it is the perfect colour for understated lips if you're wanting to finish off a bold or smokey-eyed look.
The 3.3g lipstick bullet is packaged in a sturdy clear plastic tube that reflects the colour of the lipstick within. The white opaque lid clips on with a satisfying click to ensure that it doesn't come loose in your handbag.
The lipstick glides on quite moist and then dries to a long-lasting matte finish that doesn't bleed or feather but use a lip liner anyway as it will help extend the longevity of your lipstick. It definitely doesn't live up to its claims; it won't last 14 hours and does come off a little, but you will get a good 4 to 6 hours between touch-ups.
I found the colour to feel rather drying after a few hours and have noticed that if there are any dry bits of skin on my lips that they are accentuated by this pale colour and matte finish. For best results, gently exfoliate your lips (with a washcloth or toothbrush) before applying a little lip balm or lip serum to moisturise. Do the rest of your make-up and then wipe off any excess lip balm or serum before applying Maybelline Super Stay 14hr.
I brought this in red on my mission to find a long lasting lipstick. Let me just say to start off that I much prefer it to it’s sister lipstick the 24 hour superstay lipstick. The reason for that is this one is quicker to apply being a normal bullet lipstick and it doesn’t flake off strangely like the 24 hour one does. However, like the 24 hour one it does look better if you scrub before reapplying the lipstick, but you can get away with reapplying this one over the previous lipstick.
With comparisons out the way, let’s look at the packaging. Clean white packaging and a bullet lipstick inside. Simple, classy and pretty solid feeling plastic.
Now the product inside when applied gives a decently pigmented lip colour but it does not last 14 hours. If I’m eating and drinking it lasts no longer than any other lipstick. If I’m not I usually get about 4 hours out of it, sometimes slightly more.
The lipstick can be quite drying being a long lasting lip colour and doesn’t always look right if reapplied. But out of the long lasting lipsticks I’ve tried it’s the best I’ve tried so far.
The other thing to note with Maybelline’s long lasting lipsticks is that they are perfumed. It doesn’t bother me, but if you’re not keen on perfumed lips this isn’t the lipstick for you.
