Confession time. I just added up the cost of my makeup bag and it came to …. gulp … $435. And that total didn’t include the assortment of mini products hanging around in the bottom of it.
$435. That’s a beautiful pair of leather boots. Maybe even two. That’s a shopping spree at Glassons. That’s two and a bit worth of power bills during summer. I’m still in shock. I can’t believe that my little Revlon gift with purchase makeup bag is the home to $435 worth of products. And that’s just the products I might pull out to use on a daily basis, that doesn’t even include the brushes I use, the contents of the beauty cubby or the beauty drawer, or the decent sized stash that’s hiding under my bed.
What’s worse, is the cost of my makeup bag’s contents is above average according to the result of a study conducted by vouchercloud.net. Their survey canvassed over 2000 women in the UK and showed that the average makeup wearing woman over the age of 18 has on average NZ$230 stashed away in it. Mine is nearly twice that!
It’s not all high end fancy pants stuff either – it ranges from Avon and ZA to Benefit and NYX, to L’Oreal and K-Beauty products. The most expensive item in there is the Hourglass ambient lighting palette, which weighs in at $90, but even without that, I’m still walking around with $100 more makeup than the average woman. The average UK woman anyway…
So am I above average? Do I need to be taken into some makeup lovers treatment facility and taught that all I need is one eyeliner, one mascara, one foundation, one eyeshadow palette, one concealer, one blusher and one lipstick? Or is $400 the average amount of makeup bag makeup for a Kiwi girl?
