NZ women fess up to their shocking beauty habits!

Article by BR Anon.

Once upon a time in one of the more relatable Sex and The City episodes, Carrie disclosed her SSB.  Secret Single Behaviour.  You know, the things you do in private but you wouldn't want anyone else, in particular your fancy-person to know about.

For this Beauty Crew member, this episode came to life rather recently when she was confronted by her partner about her 'in-shower' activities.  "You know how you moan I never clean the bathroom? Why are there always clumps of your hair on the walls of the shower?".

How could she explain herself?  Denial, apparently.  "Erm, I wash my hair, hair comes out and obviously sticks to the glass.  What I forget to clean the shower once and you're being all smug? It's your turn to cook by the way."

So what is the truth behind this defensive reaction?  While washing my hair, I collect the strands that come out and deposit them on the shower wall.  You know, to prevent them getting in the hair trap (which is incredibly gross to clean out). Ok I count them too, just to make sure I'm not losing more than usual.  And yes by the time I've finished my shower, I usually forget to collect them and put them in the bin.

Surely I cannot be the only person in the world that collects her hair and displays it on the wall of the shower?!

So BRHQ are holding a beauty confessional and lifting the lid on some of the embarassing beauty habits we're guilty of.  We asked friends and family and here's what they revealed;

  1. Everytime I squeeze a really big spot, I secretly hope the 'pop' will be forceful enough to hit the mirror.
  2. Mine's not a beauty habit exactly, but still a bit cringe!  I hate washing my bras or jeans.  They're never the same after a few washes.  So I hang them on the line and spray them with FeBreeze.
  3. I inspect my used pore strips under the light.  I'm always disappointed when I take off a pore strip and there's hardly any blackheads on it - I want my pore strip to be like a little forest of long blackheads.
  4. I lick my makeup brushes to help pick up powder.
  5. I brush my teeth while plucking my eyebrows.  So really I just hold the toothbrush in my mouth, infusing me with minty freshness.
  6. My legs are always shaved but I never buy razors.  The perks of co-habiting right?
  7. If I forget to take my makeup off at night and I have smudged mascara in the morning, I sort of push it up to my lower lash line and apply a fresh coat to my top lashes.  Grunge is back.
  8. If I have no time to shower I use my boyfriend's roll on deodorant because it's stronger. I would shun him if he used mine.  Man pits are gross.
  9. I have to check which side of the mirror is magnified before I use it.  I once thought I was looking into the magnified mirror, only to turn it over and realise that huge spot was actually lifesize. Never again, especially now I have wrinkles.

Your turn.  'Fess up - what are some of your funny, gross or embarassing beauty habits?  Or are we the only girls with bad habits around here?

Haha this article made me laugh. I definitely offend with last nights make up. If I have somewhere to be the next morning its just add another coat of eyeliner. So bad I know. I've also borrowed the boyfriend's deodorant, but he'd also borrow mine if he didn't have his.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Awesome :) You made me laugh out loud :) :) OK number 1. Yes!! Number 2. I actually don't wash my bras or jeans everytime I wear them, I wear them a couple times then wash them. Number 3. Don't really use pore strips now but when I did, of course I inspected the carnage!! Number 4. Nope don't do that hehe. Number 5. Nope, I do brush my teeth properly Number 6. Definitely do that! Number 7. Sometimes I do this one hehe Number 8. Yes, guilty!!! Number 9. We actually share roll on sometimes anyway (gross???) Number 10. Don't use a magnified mirror, too scared!!

Don't think I really have anything else to add, no wait, sometimes in bed if I have a toenail starting to come off I peel it and put it on my bedside cabinet beside the clock! LOL

I'm a bit of a germ phobe so I don't really do anything bad. I use the cream on my zits the proper way to dry them out (it really works if you have the patience for it) so as not to cause scaring, I clean the shower straight after I hop out of it because its the easiest way to keep it clean when all the stuff on the bath is easy to get off when its softened. I use my cleanser and moisturise religiously so don't end up with blackheads. I will not wear a clothing item more than one day before washing it because I think about the dead skin that comes off onto them during the day (also I'm in a reception job, I can't afford a whiff of any, ah, smells). I never forget to take my makeup off, the bad skin I'd get from it is not worth skipping it. I don't shave anymore due to getting IPL. I shower every morning (its my wake-up ritual) Hmmmm I don't do any of these particular things, I'm trying really hard to think of something but I'm so pedantic and fussy that I have developed an anti-ritual to weed them out cos they gross me out. Ummmmmmmmmmm...............I enjoy getting the crap out from under my finger and toe nails, does that count?

I love these articles they are my favorite!

I used to do number 6 but after gaining so much weight I avoid all mirrors now! I like using mens deodorant too, it seems to work better.

If I plastered my hair to the shower wall, it would look like Chewbacca's back...

But I'm an excessive moulter.

I scoop it in a heap and deliver it straight to the bin.

9th November, 2014

It sounds gross but Im a serial #2 offender. Jeans and Bras never feel right after washing! Hehe

9th November, 2014

Haha what a great read I am definitely known to do a couple of these things!! Definitely don't change my shaver blade as often as I should :)

8th November, 2014

Oh wow. I thought I was alone on the hair on the shower wall thing! I'd much rather put it on the wall than collect it from the drain *shudder*. ANNNND Number 6 is a daily for me hahaha.

I do 3 and 6. I find it very satisfying when I see all the blackheads that have been pulled out of my nose. I also pluck and dig at ingrown or hairs that haven't come to surface but are itchy since they're poking at the skin. I feel satisfaction when I have pulled out the hair by the root sometimes I leave the hairs on the mirror. I also tend to walk around when I brush hair or braid it instead of staying in one place.

Bahahahaha this was too funny to read & I soo do some of these!! I guess one I do that's not on the list is when I pluck my eye bows I like to collect them as I go on the mirror or a tissue - sometimes I forget to wipe them off the mirror and get snapped by the hubs - I especially love the ones the ones that pull the whole root of the hair out!

So funny to read, I feel like I am guilty of all of the above and some more not listed and I think I will just have to keep unlisted LOL

Done that too. I got lectured by other people when I was a teen about leaving the plucked out hairs on the mirror. I liked the hairs that had the root attached, there was something satisfying knowing that stray hair wouldn't grow back for awhile.
