Vending Machine Beauty - Is this the new way to shop?

Vending machines just got even more detrimental - no, not to our diets, but to our wallets!  Yes those clever marketing folks have only gone and made impulse purchasing easier, and dare we say it, fun.

Australian brand ulta3 have launched their latest retail outlet - a vending machine at Southern Cross Station in Melbourne.  You can pick up reasonably priced cosmetics such as eyeliners, mascara, lipsticks and nail polishes whilst waiting for your train!

And they plan to launch more vending machines around the Australia, targeting universities, malls and high traffic areas.

When you think about it, it's retailing geunis - no hefty store rental fees, no staff to employ (other than the topper-upper).  It's fast and fun - what more can a girl want when she's shopping?

And ulta3 are by no means the first cosmetic brand to dip their toe in the vending machine business - you'll find Sephora and Benefit machines in various airports and malls across the globe, even nail polish brand Essie has installed one at JFK airport!

So what do you think of beauty vending machines?  Do they tickle your impulse-shopping-bone or do you not see the fun in them?  Would you become a customer if they started to appear in NZ?

I guess they would be fine if you knew exact colours or shades you require. Sounds fun tho!

Wow this is the first time I've heard of something like this. I quite like Kyle novel idea of this and the fun feature it gives. However, for a more expensive brand like benefit I'd still prefer to go in store so I can test the product and get some advice. If I was repurchasing a product though or buying a cheap product like ulta3 I would probably use a vending machine for convenience.

While a vending machine does sound fun it won't necessarily increase the amount I'll spend on beauty products since, I'll need to have more money to spend first. Also I like reading the ingredients list on the products and picking it up and reading the info on the box before I buy and I can't do that if the product is in a vending machine.

They would be very dangerous for me lol especially a sephora one, i can see alot of impulse buying on my behalf hehe

I love this idea. But I'm kind of relieved I don't have one near me, I wouldn't be able to help myself and want to buy something all the time!

Id probably try but it would depend on the situation and brands obviously but i am one to buy alot online so i think this will be great not too sure how the retailers would like it thou :)

They are just so cute, would defiantly check them out to begin with, possibly the novelty would wear of after a while :)

Like I said on Facebook, I saw numerous vending machines for electronics in airports in the States, so I can imagine airports could work for beauty machines too. That way if you forgot to pack something important you could just pick one up. But if you were looking for something new I wouldn't like that you couldn't test the products first.

Great idea for the cheaper products but certainly wouldn't want my nice products flying through a shute as would hate it if they were damaged accidentally and I think you would have no come back then.

I LOVE this idea and would gladly spend money on this type of vending machine as opposed to one that sells junk food!! My wallet may not be so keen....

While vending machines are great for quick beauty buys. I don't think that a vending machine unless it comes with cheaper beauty products that I need/want will increase my beauty spending habits. Because the bottom line is in order to spend more on beauty products I need to have more money available.

Mini vending machines like these would be awesome at bars - mascara and lippy needs! I do love these. Seriously awesome for products that aren't new to market I would say, so you can grab a product you've already used and run out of, or used from a friend, or tried but didn't get. No so for new products - best to try them in store. Hopefully people don't lose their jobs over them though!

I bet if you're on your way somewhere and forgotten your eye liner or something, this would be sooo handy! Otherwise... I'm not sure I really see it taking off?!

22nd October, 2014

I like these in case you need something and the shops are closed.... however I think I would end up just wanting to try it out and buying something! hahahaha which is why I am glad I have not come across one.... yet!

It's an interesting marketing ploy, but I like to go to a store, test shades against my skin tone and get advice from the beauty counter staff. So unless it was a brand I knew and always got I wouldn't use them.
