Under 24? Do You Know Your Skin Type?

It's no wonder the choices in skin care products are seemingly endless, there are so many different types of skin - dry, oily, combination, normal, sensitive.  Some people will stay the same skin type for the whole of their lives whist others will under go skin changes due to age, hormones or their enviroment.

One age group particularly prone to regular changes in skin type are young adults, our under 24s.   Our skin type really depends on 3 factors - water content (affecting comfort and elasticity), oil/lipid content (affecting softness) and sensitivity level.  Younger skin is more likely to be affected by these things, notably the oil content.  Young skin is more prone to excess oil (particularly the T-zone) which is why we generally have more break outs and blackheads before we hit our mid-twenties.

Finding out you current skin type is as simple as wiping your face with a tissue.  And by that, I mean, you literally wipe your skin with a tissue.  Make sure you remove all makeup and cleanse your face the night before.  Then:

Wipe your face with a clean tissue first thing in the morning.

  1. Normal Skin - there will be no trace of oil on the tissue and your skin will be elastic and supple.  You'll have clean and smooth skin, good circulation and a healthy complexion.  Don't opt out of a skincare routine if you have normal skin - although it will do well with minimal care, putting the effort in to your normal skin will have you looking fabulous as you age.
  2. Dry Skin - the tissue will be clean but your skin will feel dry to the touch and possibly flaky and tight.  Dry skin tends to be sallow in tone and will wrinkle earlier.
  3. Oily Skin - the tissue will have spots of facial oil on it. Oily skin can be greasy, thick, coarse, and shiny, have enlarged pores, and tend to break into acne.  On a plus point, oily skin doesn't give in to ageing or wrinkles easily!
  4. Combination Skin - the tissue will have traces of oil coming from your nose and forehead, but will be clean in the areas that touched your cheeks.  Generally with combo skin, your cheeks will be prone to dryness and you'll need to use different products in different areas - ie a rich moisturiser on your dry cheeks, but an oil free moisturiser for the oily parts.
  5. Sensitive Skin. Any skin type can be sensitive, but generally sensitive skin is usually very dry and tends to feel quite tight.  It will become inflamed and irritated easily. Typically, sensitive skin develops reddish and scaly areas, can be itchy and tingly, and is prone to breaking into spots. It is the most problematic and fragile type of skin, which needs a very special type of care.

Young skin is going to go through changes - it's inevitable.  One month you might find yourself breaking out every day and find your makeup sliding off of your face.  The next month you might find your makeup caking and your skin flaking.  Until your hormones stabalise and you find yourself with more predictable skin, it pays to know your skin types, and to buy products designed for your young skin.

Our latest trial team is an amazing opportunity for our under-24s.  From...Sub 24, a gorgeous Kiwi brand that you need to know about!

Sub 24 believe in keeping skin care simple, natural and balanced.  They're huge believers in working from the inside out, a healthy diet and drinking lots of water will allow the skin to easily absorb the beautiful vitamins, minerals and good fatty acids from the natural oils and herbs they use in their products.

We're looking for 10 under-24s to put three products from Sub-24 to the test.  (THREE!!)

  1. Detoxifying Daily Cleanser - a light, detoxifying cleanser that gently removes environmental impurities, unblocks pores and thoroughly removes makeup. Packed with carefully selected natural active ingredients, this cleanser is designed to improve your skin from within.
  2. Fresh + Flawless Face Scrub - a gentle scrub is designed for young skin, delivering natural exfoliation without irritation. The combination of natural botanicals and fine Jojoba beads leaves the skin feeling deliciously smooth, perfectly clean and oh-so moisturised.
  3. Daily Antioxidant Moisturiser - a light weight, fast absorbing moisturiser is perfect for young skin. The potent blend of natural and active botanicals including jojoba, apricot, evening primrose and coconut oils soften and moisturise while carrying vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids deep into the skin.

Doesn't this sound like the perfect trio for difficult-to-please young skin?!

So, we know this is going to be incredibly popular, which is why we're going to hand select this trial from the comments below.  So if you want in, get talking to us about your young skin.

Do you know your skin type?  Do you find your young skin changes with the wind, or does it generally stay the same?  Do you suffer from acne?  Are you a healthy eater who believes that beauty starts from the inside?

Get chatting below - and if you're over 24 (oh shush, it's not so bad!) then why not share this incredible opportunity with a young 'un you know?

I am 21, so I would love to try this!! I don't really know my skin type. I did the test above and it didn't match any of the outcomes listed, I could not notice and oil on my tissue and I don't think my skin feels tight, but I guess it is a bit dry. Maybe it's a bit of combination skin. I don't have clean skin, I seem to always have acne breakouts. I do notice that my skin definitely changes with the seasons and I need to change my skincare products when it starts becoming colder/warmer. Yes I suffer from acne, it's the most annoying thing as a 21 year old! I do try my best to eat healthy and I definitely believe beauty comes from the inside out!!

I have combination skin which is also sensitive. My t zone gets quite oily and occasionally my cheeks do too. But my cheeks also get dry and flakey. I'm just within the category for these products and would love to try them. I wish I had known about these products sooner as I've always found it hard to find the right products for my skin!

COMBINATION!! depending on time of the year of course

I am under 24 with combination skin and would love to try these products! Have tried everything under the sun to control my breakouts and large pores in my t-zone to no luck. Even a healthy diet is not working for me haha.

I'm 18 with skin that used to be incredibly oily, but within the last 6 months has turned around completely and is now very dry - SO! That means I need to find a whole new range of skin care products to suit. I'm someone who believes what you put into your body (food and drink wise) has a huge effect on your skin, so I'm a very clean eater, and only eat whole foods a majority of the time - combined with drinking litres and litres of water daily. Although I stay hydrated inside, my skin just never seems to hold any moisture. I've found a few facial oils that have helped a little, but need to be applied 2-3 times a day to keep my skin hydrated. I would love to try some products like these specifically made for young (temperamental) skin!

My little sister is 14 and her skin is very up and down. Her other sister had very bad acne so I know she's a little worried. I'm 26 and still have ups and downs but it's worse when your starting shift school and things huh, the struggle is real :)

I'm not 24 and under however my daughter is about to turn 15 and this sounds exactly what she needs to get her started on a routine to look after her skin and she would be more than happy to try this product thanks

I have normal/sensitive skin, and very rarely have breakouts (except when its THAT time of the month) however, i have problems with blackheads etc and once in a blue moon - oiliness. I have tried multiple brands of skincare varying in price and still have not found anything that is suited perfectly to my skin. I would LOVE to try the facial scrub! My face feels so fresh after doing one, and as a mama of twins, that is everything haha

This stuff sounds amazing! Wish there was something around like this when I was 24. At the moment my skin is so terrible, and i have nonidea why! would love to try this sometime ;)

28th January, 2017

I'm 21 and have my fair share of skin issues!! I have dry, sensitive skin and am always on the look out for more products suitable for my skin! I also get redness and spots which I hate. I have found a love for natural ingredients in my skin care and have been learning to take better care of my skin but I still get breakouts and pimples which are the devil! I love a good kiwi brand which uses natural products as well, which draws me to these! I have also found that drinking water and eating more vegetables (cliche I know) has also helped my skin. I would definitely love to try these products and see if they can help my skin as they sound fab!!

Under 24 and let me tell you my skin is more indecisive than my mum when it comes to buying clothes. One day it's extremely oily and everything is just wrong and the next it's too dry. The stress from school and life alone could ruin my skin but the fact that I'm still in the phase where perfect skin means everything doesn't help at all. Also my pores are really like craters on my face because of their size. It's probably once in a blue moon when my skin isn't crazy and actually normal for a day.

27th January, 2017

Yes please would love for my 3 daughters to trial this, they all have different skin types and are completely honest in their opinions.

27th January, 2017

I'm 39 but I have 2 teens thst need a to get a grip on what they need we were using Oasis but haven't used it for a while. Please help my kids are breaking out

27th January, 2017

I might be just a tad over 24 but I do have a Miss 16 in the house who is just starting on that skincare/makeup journey and I know a good skincare routine is absolutely so important and the sooner you can start it the more your skin will thank you later. This sounds really interesting. My daughter has occasional breakouts but she is really struggling with oilyness as well. She is keen to try sub24 out. :-)

27th January, 2017

I don't know if my 8 year old daughter would be too young for this trial but she has breakouts so I am looking for a natural skin care regime for her to use that would be easy and convenient. She has a healthy diet and drinks lots and lots of water so I'm assuming there is something else going on! Would love to spend some time with her trialing these awesome looking products!
