Article by BR Natalie

To rock the statement lip you need confidence, sass and, of course, the right lipstick.  So here's a list of BR's top ten lipsticks.

And it's not based on brand's, editor's or even the Beauty Crew's opinions.  As if!  We present New Zealand's Top Ten Lipsticks as rated by real consumers, real Kiwis - that's you!  So here you have it your ten most rated lippys. Are they in your collection?

MAC Lipstick - 4.8/5 - 702 reviews

They Say:  Colour plus texture for the lips. Stands out on the runway. Simmers on the street! What made M·A·C famous.  Available in 11 finishes (Matte, Retro Matte, Satin, Dazzle, Glaze, Lustre, Cremesheen, Cremesheen Pearl, Amplified, Amplified Creme, Frost) Available in 170+ shades

You Say: Yes, I think I've finally found it. The perfect lipstick in over a hundred shades. I just looove MAC lipsticks! They are perfectly pigmented, in possibly every colour imaginable. They come in a variety of different finishes so there is definitely something for everyone! They apply smoothly and generally one coat is enough to get that bold colour. They have great staying power and I am rarely finding myself re-applying this lippy! Personal favs - Ruby Woo, Rebel and Cyber- now go out and try some on!  - Reviewer -  shelbyrose206

Jordana Lipstick - 4.3/5 - 361 reviews

They Say:  Full Coverage, Dazzling Color. Rich & Creamy Texture. Lightweight, Smooth-Glide Application. Soft Shine Finish

You Say: I love lippies, I love them, I love them, I love them.

I have lippies from Jordana right through to YSL and most of the stopping points in between.  As I type this I'm rocking Jordana Matte Lipstick in Eggplant one of my all time faves.  What can I say? The price is right, the pigmentation is outstanding, the lasting power is mindblowing and even the mattes aren't drying.

The only down side is the packaging is a little lame and the mattes don't have some of the beautiful mouthwatering scents some of the regular lipsticks have (I'm looking at you cranberry mix you angel scented devil!) but really for the price, who am I kidding?  You need these in your life! Trust me, now is NOT the time to be a brand snob!   - Reviewer - Jelicabear

Lime Crime Opaque Lipstick - 4.5/5 - 221 reviews

They Say: Bold. Opaque. Recklessly loaded with pigment. For lips that speak louder than words.

You Say: The Lime Crime lipsticks are my ultimate favourite lipsticks. I started my collection when the brand first started out, and I loved having colours on my lips that raised eyebrows and received questions and compliments. The colour range that Lime Crime offers is wonderful. From the bold to the softer, there is a shade to suit everyone. The formula is soft, creamy and extremely pigmented. It is long lasting on the lips and eventually fades to an even pastel shade, rather than peeling or flaking. I prefer the formula over the MAC lipsticks, as it is less drying and more pigmented in comparison (not to mention cheaper!). Whether you reach for something simple or adventurous, I 100% recommend the Lime Crime range of lipsticks.  - Reviewer -chelseaadelaide

Maybelline Colour Sensational Lipstick - 4.3/5 - 214 reviews

They Say: Fall in love with color, all over again. Crisper color from pure pigments. Creamier feel from nourishing honey nectar.  Lipcolor so rich, so stunning…it’s sensational.

You Say:  I love the colour of these lipsticks. They are so creamy and smooth to put on, and the colour result is gorgeous. This lipstick does need reapplying after a few hours, but is so easy to use that it is not a difficult task to do. There are so many shades available in this range that anyone should be able to find the colour perfect for them, and if you can pick them up on special, definitely cheap enough to try something different to your norm! - Reviewer -  SnowAngel

Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter - 4/5 - 120 reviews

They Say:  The pampering gel formula provides super charged hydration.  Available in 20 delicious shades that provide a sheer to medium colour with a buttery shine.

You Say: Very hydrating and goes on smooth. I wear this during the day when I feel like a little bit of colour. I brought the colour "Creme Brulee"- its a nice nude colour, great for a day time look, when you're wanting a bit of colour and hydration. I found this balm very hydrating. I don't normally like Revlon, but I really liked this lip butter. Will definitely be buying more colours in this range. - Reviewer hopemark

Chi Chi Viva la Diva Lipstick - 4.5/5 - 111 reviews

They Say:  These hydrating, rich hued, ultra-smooth lipsticks glide on with a creamy, comfortable finish. Enriched with Beeswax, Calendula, Vitamin E, Evening Primrose and Jojoba Oils these lipsticks are non drying, moisturising whilst at the same time drowning your lips with long lasting colour.

You Say:  I got my first Chi Chi lipstick just before Christmas and I was so happy with my purchase that I have since brought 3 more... And I'm still not satisfied! They have really modern and fun colours, the names are ridiculously fun and cute and the packaging is really pretty and different (occasionally one does fall part but I just plonk it back together and it's fine, I just need to be aware if popping in my bag) They are long lasting, apply beautifully and smooth and I find the mattes don't accentuate lines or dry patches on your lips which is fantastic! I really do think these are great lipsticks and I'll be definitely adding more to my collection!  - Reviewer - Cat

Rimmel Kate Lipstick - 4.5/5 - 94 reviews

They Say: Be Iconic - Make the Ordinary Extraordinary Sumptuously Rich Matte Colour with a sublime comfort. Ruby Powder enriched formula. Intense velvet colour all day!

You Say:  These come in a sleek packaging which reflects the shade of the lipstick which I really like. The scent is good and not very strong which I like. The formula itself is so moitusiring and hydrating. It glides right on easily but without spreading. It's also fairly long lasting and there are so many shades! They're a good quality affordable lippie and I am definitely going to repurchase more shades.  They are definitely worth the value and are so pigmented. It's a demi-matte finish which I like too, without drying out the lips. Love! - Reviewer DianaN

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick - 4.5/5 - 83 reviews

They Say: Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick is Infused with mega-moisturizers to seal in color and softness. Find your lip color amongst a dazzling array of 82 shade in 4 fabulous finishes of Matte, Pearl, Crème and Shine.

You Say:  Sooo I own quite a few of these baby's. I find all of there lipstick lovely and moisturizing, they stay on fairly well but they do need a reapply a few times a day (which I like as it keeps my lips moisturized) my number 1 pet peeve is lipstick drying my lips out, this does the opposite :)  - Reveiwer - Ashlee

Wet 'n' Wild Mega Last Lip Color - 4.5/5 - 78 reviews

They Say: Lips take center stage!  This 4-hour, longwearing lip color leaves a semi-matte, crème finish in one stroke. Glides on easily with rich, velvety color that doesn't cake, feather, or bleed.

You Say: I love these lipsticks so much. I love how these last on my lips. It wears evenly when I'm eating and drinking and doesn't leave an ugly ring outside of my lips. The colour payoff is intense, they are very opaque and quite true to what it looks like in the tube. They are slightly drying but not too bad.  The packaging isn't the fanciest, it's a very basic black tube with a clear lid. This does make it easy to instantly see what colour lipstick it is though and the lids fit snugly so they don't fall off in your handbag etc. - Reveiwer - Rezee

Max Factor Elixir Lipstick - 4.1/5 - 42 reviews

They Say: Instant fabulous colour.  Actively moisturises for smoother, fuller lips (vs bare lips)  A blend of 60% emollients, conditioners and antioxidants including vitamin E.

You Say: This lippy is bliss. The gorgeous gold case is stunning and the colour of your lipstick is on the bottom. As you wind the lipstick up you will see the trade mark X on the side of your colour. The formulation is rich and creamy and moisturizes nicely. It has a beautiful fragrance and great staying power. I will definitely consider buying more of these lippys. Reviewer- kim_rose

Jordana lipsticks are amazing. I buy them for my students when ever we have a show. Amazing price point and such stunning shades.

My fave of the above is the Jordana. I didn't realise it was a cult brand when I first saw it, I just wanted to see if orange lipstick worked for me. Obviously, not the most flash packaging but the lipsticks are really nice.

I like the look of the Max Factor lippies. And I trust Kim's review 150!!

Ahhhh yes love MAC and Lime Crime lipsticks though I've rehomed all LC since I wasn't reaching for them as often as I used to.

My top lipstick in my collection (and I definitely can feel the quality of) is a Bobbi Brown one but to be fair it's worth over 50 bucks. I like it because it's long wearing, pigmented, feels hydrating but light and has spf included.

Wow so many lovely lipsticks and colours -No wonder I have a problem finding a favourite. The Max Factor elixir looks really great.
