The ‘Under” Nail Polish

There are somethings in life I just can't resist - Tootie Frooties, Sylvester Stallone, anything with Cath Kidston's Cowboy Print on it.  But perhaps my biggest weakness is when my favourite designers dip their toes into new markets - it doesn't even really matter what it is!  Lets be honest, a tea cup by Dior is going to bring just a little bit more oomph to your morning.  So when my favourite designers and my beauty obsession collide, you can imagine the fallout of excitement!

Yes I am the one who gets excited by Dior's Nail Artistry Box or Christian Louboutin's Nail Polish. And Christian Louboutin has only gone and done it again.

Ladies, I give you, the under-nail nail polish.

Loubi Under is the famous 'Louboutin sole" for your nails.  The hot red nail polish colour comes in a bottle that looks like a bottle of calligraphy ink  The unique, super pointy brush is specially designed to paint - you guessed it, the underside of your nails.

Now the idea of painting the underneath of your nails is by no means new - the gorgeous Adele has rocked the look numerous times.  It's perfect for ladies with long nails that hate the unfinished look an unpainted under-nail can leave.  Especially if you're using a dark shade top side - it can leave your long tips looking murky underneath.

A fun way to rock the painted under-nail is to do what Louboutin famously does with the soles of his shoes - add a splash of colour that contrasts with the top side.  Imagine if you will, deep black nails (maybe even deep, matte black nails) with a splash of shiny, hot red beneath.  Yes please!

Loubi Under will set you back around $60, but hey, if you don't want to splash out on that, you can still achieve the look at home with a pointy brush and a thin coat of your favourite polish.

What do you think of Loubi Under?  Is it a nail look you'd rock or do you not see the attraction?  Do you like a little designer in your life, or are you unfussed by these types of forays by design houses?

I really like that. When my nails grow again all the same length I'll give it a go with a tiny water colour brush I have :)

My nails are always painted but I feel like this would just be messy if I did it myself, and not really worth paying to get professionally done... I feel it would chip easily and it would make me feel uncomfortable, like having dirt or something stuck under my nails :/ I like seeing the look on other people though!

I love the look but my nails are too short and soft

Intriguing concept and I would consider it at least once. It would depend on how long it took me to get the coverage right before I would commit long term.

Omg that is the most amazing gorgeous idea ever. I'll have to tr his when I grow my nails out so cool

I love the thought of one colour on top and another on the underneath. I probably wouldnt go to $60.00 but may attempt the look with another less expensive option.

Interesting concept... I wonder how it would wear? would the nail bed be better to breathe? oh so many more questions. I love Louboutin shoes for the red underside but wouldn't do my nails that way if I had the shoes too... it would be a little too matchy matchy

I don't think I'd go to the effort of painting they under side of my nails. I think it is a cool look, but it would be hard to maintain because I imagine it would chip easily

Yes, I love it, especially contrast colours top and under. Pity my nails aren't up to the job though, too short.

I really like this look, shame I don't have the length in my nails to do it...

I did that some of first few times I painted my nails because I didn't know you weren't supposed to. Except I painted it with the same nail polish I was using. I think this would be a really nice polished look for someone with gorgeous long nails especially oval and almond shapes. I would do if my nails can ever afford to be practical and long like that.

I love the look of this! I always have long nails (unless one breaks like last night, now I have to cut them all short because it looks and feels odd :( haha), but I don't think I'd be able to do this on my own nails without getting it all over my skin. I wouldn't pay $60 for this.

That looks like a great idea but as I struggle to get nail polish to stay on for more than 1/2 a day, I think this would be a waste of time for me unfortunately.

i do my nails now with shellac and my nails are at a good length where i try to put colour under my nails

29th October, 2014

Great idea - it looks awesome for long nails.
