The Best and The Worst Ways TV has Impacted my Style!

I'm a proper telly addict.  I love a good TV series. Actually they don't even have to be good - I recently sat through two seasons of When Calls The Heart.  If the name alone doesn't put you off, the poorly acted melodrama should do it.

I've literally just come down from binge watching season 5 of House of Cards - which was essentially 13 hours of lusting over the immaculate makeup and the impeccable wardrobe of one character.  We'll get to the hottest look on the 'Flix in a mo.

I've always been a fan of TV shows.  And, like most women I guess, I'd be inspired by the looks on the show.  Hair, makeup, clothes. Like every 90s teen, I waltzed into the salon and demanded The Rachel.  That, coincidentally marked the first and not last time, I cried after leaving the salon.

My twenties were spent watching Desperate Housewives, Lost, The West Wing.  Yes I owned the ultimate day time swag. The velour sweatsuit.  And yes, mine was turquoise too.

And now, in my thirties, I'm flitting back and forward in time.  I want the kick ass braids of Legartha. Fast forward to the Zombie Apocalypse and I pray I stumble across a Western store selling these cowboy boots.  Which I may, or may not have spent way too much time (and money) getting to NZ.

Back to the present day.  House of Cards.

Robin Wright seriously owns this asymmetric crop.  It's sexy.  It's sassy.  It's powerful.  It's homely.  It's intimidating.  It's welcoming.  It's ice queen.  It's feminine.  Seriously this haircut is so complicated, it might just be the epitomy of women's hair styling.

Unfortunately for my moon head, this style looks best on those with a long neck and delicate features.  You'll want to ask for choppy layers for texture, and here's the scary part - the trick to getting it to sit just so on the dominant side?  A slight undercut.

After 3.5 seasons of hair envy for a hair style (well, the whole ensemble really) I could never rock, imagine my joy when Neve Campbell appeared on screen.  Rocking the nude lipstick and mattified no-makeup makeup, with the most stunningly low-key eye looks. The low maintenance, but still gorgeous hair. The power suit sans shoulder pads.

My style crush for Neve's character LeAnn only grew with season 5, probably, in part, because well...Claire's style this season just didn't do it for me.  Don't even get me started on that gold buttoned outfit.  But LeAnn, oh LeAnn, every time she was on screen I was mentally noting the reinvention of Nat.  Starting with-that lipstick.  Seriously, I need to find that nude lipstick.  I think it's my nude.  It's stunning.  I actually can't find a photo online that shows this makeup in it's true glory, so I am ordering you - watch at least one episode of HOC season 5 and tell me - is this not the most underrated beauty on TV?!

Are you inspired by the leading ladies on your favourite TV shows?  Who do you think has the best look and style on the box?  What TV styles do you look back on and think..."nope, shouldn't have done that"?

In a word no! Haha - I just stick with my own style and what I like, not too worried about whether it's "in style" at the time either :)

Okay growing up I was huge fan of 90210. I thought they were so cool. The 90s fashion and make up.

Do cartons count? Jem and the holograms and the misfits always had fucnky clothes and makeup styles. oh to get away with that on a daily basis think how much brighter the world would be.

I envy the characters of TV shows that have perfect hair and makeup. Especially curled and braided so beautifully and so much volume to their hair even the braids are thick and there's a lot of them. I'd need extensions and a hairstylist to get my hair looking that way.

I still have a soft spot for the 80s - Dynasty, Dallas etc. The shoulder pads and big flares gave most people a nice shape. I love the hairstyles on Reign, and because I mainly watch reality TV the clothing is a bit hit and miss. Probably Beverley Hills housewives have the wardrobes (including bags, shoes, and sunnies) that I'd love to raid the most.

There are so many styles about there, which are crazy fabulous! Once out on a wilderness walk I was channelling Lara Croft, but some of my 'wish' looks are more Mary Tyler Moore lol.

I will confess to ruining the mood on more than one occasion, while watching AO clips, and commenting on the amazing nails/talons.

I love danaerys looks in Game of Thrones, her hair is always so immaculate and nicely braided. Inconveniently though I have neck lengh hair right now, so no braids for me!

Gutted.I had jthe glitter and gold Jem doll her earring even flashed till my cousins were fighting over her and off with her head. Not sure if it was just the outfits or that her outfit could change thanks synergy, how handy would that be these days.
