Is this the most under-rated natural product ever?

We talk a lot about amazing products.  From high-tech, created-in-a-lab-by-experts to super effective natural formulas.  And we all seem to love the super effective natural blends more.  But does our love of finding something new and better cause us to overlook some of the more simple but still kick-ass products?

Yes, yes it does.  And so I give you the most underrated beauty product around.

The Pumice.

Here's some pumice facts to whet your appetite for pumice appreciation.

  • Pumice stone is solidified frothy lava from volcanic eruptions.
  • Almost all of the pumice in New Zealand is thought to have come from the last eruption of Taupo, around 181AD.
  • The 2012 Kermadec Islands eruption caused a 'pumice raft' the size of Belgium to float in New Zealand waters.

It's most common use is probably in it's original form - the good old "pumice stone", used for smoothing rough skin on your feet and reducing corns and calluses but Pumice is used in several other beauty products, from toothpaste to soap.

Know how to use it.

To get the most from your trusty pumice you need to know how to use it.  You want to soften your feet by soaking them in water before using a pumice stone.  Once the skin has been softened you can begin to smooth your feet with the pumice stone using circular motions with slight pressure.  The idea is to smooth your feet - not rub them raw!

So...the pumice.  What do you reckon, is it the most underrated beauty product ever?  Get chatting below!

I have always used a pumice stone to exfoliate the skin on my feet. It's so effective and it feels really good.

Growing up I remember my Mum used to always have a pumice stone in the bathroom cupboard for her feet. But there aren't as many pumice stones on the beaches of Lake Taupo as there used to be.

... Nothing beats nice summer feet. I have a pumice stone in the shower and use it most mornings on my feet..love it...and best of all its usually free if you can spot some on the beach or are passing Taupo!

I used pumice years ago on my feet but obviously I wasnt wowed by it otherwise I would still be using. These days you can buy electronic foot files that I think do a better job. But def use pumice if you can't afford.
