The Makeup Shades You Need Now

While there are times one requires a crystal ball in order to figure out the next big makeup trend (I mean, really, who saw the rainbow highlighter coming?), other times one simply needs to keep an eye on the catwalks overseas or take a look at what the northern hemisphere magazines are saying during our winter. So what caught my eye as I was reading Elle recently? Pastels. Yes, pastel makeup is making a comeback, and the timing is perfect with our spring just around the corner. So what’s out there? What’s hot? What do we need right now?

When a brand brings out a new pastel palette, you know the trend is real, and Sleek’s All The Fun Of The Fair palette contains a veritable feast of pastels to brighten your eyes, as does MAC’s Pastel Times Nine palette. You can also find pastel hues in quads from Revlon and Rimmel containing all the colours you need to pastel up your peepers.

It feels like not that long ago pastel lipstick was the way to go, and if you jumped on board of that style trend then, it’s time to break out those soft shades once again. Pastel pinks are a wonderful way to ease yourself into this look, but if you’re after something a little different try purples, like Gerard Cosmetics’ Lilac Moon, or go a little more daring and hunt out a pastel grey or mint shade. (And let me know in the comments where you found it!)

Going pastel on your cheeks is a case of too easy, with plenty of options to choose from ranging from soft pinks through to pretty peaches. Not sure if the blush you’re looking at fits the pastel parameters? Make it easy on yourself and pick up Bobbi Brown’s blush in Pastel Pink or Pastel Peach.

While finding pastel blush is a breeze, it’s even easier to find a pastel polish – and you can have a lot more fun with colours too! From baby blues, to minty greens, to sweet pinks and mellow yellows, the choice is astonishing. OPI’s This Cost Me A Mint is a great way to welcome in the warmer weather, and once the sun is well and truly here their soft and summery yellow shade, One Chic Chick, makes for an elegant and pretty adornment to one’s nails.

We don’t know about you, bit we’re looking forward to a feminine wash of colour this spring and summer! So do tell, are you a fan of pastel makeup? Where’s your favourite place to apply that pop of gentle but gorgeous colour? Is it unchartered waters for you and will you be giving the returned trend a go this spring and summer? Get chatting!

Oh no pastels are not for me. Two words: olive skin.

I totally wish I would suit pastel shades but they tend to wash me out especially lipsticks. I do love me some pastel nail polish though. I have four of those and often sport them around the town for something different. Perhaps I shall try them again when my skin becomes a little more tan and glowy in the summer because pasty white like I am now is just no! In saying all that I do love my pastel hair colours. I have been baby blue, cotton candy and lilac and loved all of them! I may be keen to try that again.......

I love pastels. My hair currently has pastel pink highlights through it and I am loving the change. I have always been a fan of pale pink or peach blush and a dusting of lilac eyeshadow over my lids. This trend will add more products to my want list.

I love pastels, but not in make up necessarily....

I'm not a huge fan of pastel on my skintone, it can make me look very pale. But I love the prettiness of the colours. I have thinking about doing pastel highlights and I do wear pastel lipstick and eyeshadow with darker make up.

I love wearing pastel eyeshadow for a soft pop of colour, even in winter. Pastel nails are fun, too, they always look cute and feminine.
