We recently sent one of our Superheroes to an eyelash bar to experience eyelash extensions - and the results were so outstanding we knew we had to find out more!
Eyelash extensions have become a staple salon treatment, with people paying around $250 for fibre extensions. You can choose to have eyelash extensions as a one off for a special event or have regular infills.
What are eyelash extensions?
Most commonly eyelash extensions are made of silk, rayon or even mink. The strands can be anywhere from 6mm to 17mm long, depending on how dramatic a look you want.
They are light weight and can be incredibly natural looking, so get all those fears of looking like a drag queen out of your head!
Each strand is individually applied to the lash line, using a specially formulated adhesive.
Why do I need them?
Eyelash extensions add depth, volume and length to the upper lashline and are great for people with fine, short or few lashes.
They're also really great for gals that don't like to apply mascara or curl their eyelashes everyday, as well as those who don't like having their lashes permed or tinted.
Can you just have them done once?
Yes! You can choose to have lash extensions for a one off special event, or as a regular treatment - much like acryllic nails!
How long do they last?
Eyelash extensions grow out with your natural lash cycle, which can be anywhere from 6 weeks to 3 months. But because your lashes aren't on an even cycle, that is, strands are often at different stages of the growth cycle, you can expect to have the refilled every 4-5 weeks.
How expensive are they?
Depending on the amount of individual lashes and the type of lashes you choose, you can expect an average of around $100 - $150 for a 'better than your natural' look.
Any tips?
- Keep your new lashes away from water for 24 hours.
- Avoid pulling your lashes out, even if you sense they're loose - you could also pull out your natural lashes.
- Only use mascara if you have to - and if you simply must, use it on the ends of the lashes to avoid a very clumpy lash line.
- Check with your technician, but commonly if glue for sensitive skin is used, you'll need to avoid oil-based cleansers and makeup removers.
- Ensure your technician is lash certified - ask around and find a salon with a great reputation!
