The Hottest Look Of 2016?

When Wayne Goss, makeup artist and one of BRHQ’s vlogging idols, declares what he thinks will be the biggest makeup trend of 2016 we stand up and listen. We then go about figuring out how we can get the look. This very thing happened recently when he stated in this vlog that glowing skin was to be the biggest trend for 2016.

Of course, when we first saw that we had that moment of ‘but glowing skin’s always been around…’. Wayne then went on to explain that while glowing skin is nothing new, this year it’s the look many will aim to achieve - much like how contouring existed pre-2015 but then went bananas in 2015. Sweet. Understood. Bring it on! So what exactly is glowing skin? Well it doesn’t necessarily mean covering yourself in glitter or shimmer, or making yourself look like you’ve just been on a 5k run, it’s more about creating skin that looks beautifully healthy. So what products do you need to get your glow on this year?

Start with a primer, such as L’Oreal’s Lumi Magique Pure Light Primer, which is designed to hydrate and illuminate the skin.

Once applied you can opt to create another layer of glow by adding in an illuminating base, like Clarins Instant Light Radiance Boosting Complexion Base. Not only does this product illuminate and hydrate but it also works to even out skin tone. It can be also mixed with your current foundation to create a subtle sheen.

Next up – foundation. A dewy foundation is key for creating glowing skin. Look for a product that mentions ‘dewy’ or a water-based foundation. Maybelline’s Fit Me Dewy and Smooth is ideal if you’re after a luminous finish. Or why not check out BECCA’s Radiant Skin Foundation.

Suffering from dark circles under your eyes? Cover them up with a brightening concealer, like the Illumination Touch Concealer from Collection Cosmetics. If you’re not wanting to go overboard with highlighter, but still want to bring light to your face, you can use this product on the centre of your forehead (think starting between the brows and fanning up and out), down the centre of your nose and in the middle of your chin (don’t forget to blend!).

From here you can really play. Bronze up your skin, add a peachy or pinky blush, then crack open your favourite highlighter if you want to go all out and apply it to the tops of your cheekbones, then down the length of your nose, on your cupids bow and over the middle part of your forehead (as above) and on the centre of your chin.

Of course if you are prone to oily skin this trend might seem like a no-go, however if you’re keen to give it a go we think it’s worth experimenting with different products and options. It might mean you forego certain steps that you know will only result in an oil slick, like swapping out a hydrating primer for a mattifying one, or only applying products that create glow (like a blush, bronzer or illuminating translucent powder) that you know will work with your skin type. Wayne Goss also recommends that if you’re prone to oiliness you set the t-zone area - your forehead, around your nose and your chin - with powder and then use cream-based products for your blush, bronzer and highlighter.

So will you be getting your glow on this year? Are you already a fan of glowing skin? What products do you recommend? Any tip and tricks? Get chatting!

I don't now why but I thought the lumi-magique was being discontinued... have to hunt it out now :D happy dance :D

I am fan of glowing skin. Naturally I have good skin but sometimes I do prefer to use blush and bonzer together for healthy glow.

4th February, 2016

I really love the look of glowing skin and especially with my dry skin, it's something I always like to achieve. I really like how the lumi primer works, I've used up a tube before but I think I need to repurchase it.

I think I've always been a fan of the glow and just healthy looking skin not an over highlighted or heavily contoured face. I used the Hourglass powders over my foundation and I love the subtle glow. Although I did use a bit of highlight and bronzer this morning but used a light touch.

As a more mature skinned person, I think I suit a more matte look.

1st February, 2016

I'm not the best at highlighting but I'll give the full face a go.

The girl in the picture looks fab. I'd love to glow!

I'm all for highlight but I do like the matte look over Glowy on myself

Highlighting hasn't been easy for me! Although with the combination skin I have it's pretty normal to shine in all places that I am not supposed to. I wish I knew the tricks!

I love glowing skin and wish I could get mine to look like that, but it seems to be quite time consuming. I'm really BB cream, foundation, blush/bronzer then the eye makeup etc :)

I have just started playing with highlighter it looks so good if you get it right. I have been using sunset strobe natural highlighter from Lust have it! Vegan friendly cruelty free all natural only thing is its made in Aussie but it's really good and I love the look.

Hmmm I'm not such a fan admittedly. I prefer matte skin. And I've only recently got into highlighter.

I love this look and did wonder how it was achieved -Thank you so much for the article.

I'm a huge fan of glowing skin because it looks like you're wearing minimal makeup over good healthy skin. I love luminous foundations (Natasha Denona Face Glow foundation) or alternatively mix any foundation with a luminous primer (Becca Backlight Priming Filter).

I absolutely live by highlighters - any will do I feel it's all about placement. I'm currently using ABH Riviera or for a subtle effect Hourglass Ambient palette. I then try to go with a light blush and it takes all my will powder not to clown it on - Milani Luminoso or MAC Warm Soul.

I have oily skin and don't like a matte finish (unless it's my lipstick) so I only powder the key areas like the amazing Wayne Goss said. I use RMS Beauty Un-powder which is a loose powder that's great for oily skinned beauties. I prefer loose instead of pressed because it's lightweight, sheer and still close to my natural skin.

Highlighting is my favourite thing to do. Im still trying to master it. Ive started highlighting my nose, then contouring each side of my nose. I haven't quite got the upper cheek bones highlighted right above the blush, then bronzing below this. I'm still learning and hope to have this perfected soon.
