The Foundation Fail That's Full of Fun!

I hate arts and crafts. Because I suck at them. Nothing against the practice. In fact I'm totally envious of those who can take some string and glue and paperclips and create a masterpiece. Alas. That's not me. So when arts and craft time would roll around at primary school I was not feeling it - that was until the PVA was broken out. I don't think there's anything more satisfying in this world than peeling PVA glue from your skin and pretending it is your skin. At least I didn't think there could be anything more satisfying until I saw this video.

Fabulous YouTube beauty vlogger, ItsMyRayeRaye, picked up an Insta-famous beauty product and decided to give it a whirl. The product, Real Skin Patch, is designed to be a barrier for your skin, so that anything you put on afterwards (like makeup) doesn't get into pores, it's also meant to be for non-makeup wearers who live in places with high-pollution so that the gunky air stuff doesn't screw with your skin. Sounds like a fantastic product, right? Well in this video we soon discover Real Skin Patch is really, really... well... patchy.

The first time Raye applied the clear gel she did so on the heavy side. So when she applied her foundation it immediately began to peel off around her chin. She put this down to using too much Real Skin Patch, so started again with a lighter layer.

Second go round? She found the texture of her skin to be not as nice as when she didn't use the gel, but was willing to deal with that if it meant less acne. Things were looking good... then disaster struck in the form of the foundation and gel pilling on her jawline. Not ideal.

Not to be outdone she gave it one last blast, this time using a sponge to apply the foundation. Things were looking okay-ish. Until she swept on blush and it was all patchy. THEN added highlighter... and you know those horror movies where fresh zombies start to fall apart? Her skin started to look like that.

Three strikes and Real Skin Patch was out.

I really like the concept of Real Skin Patch. And who knows? Perhaps it works brilliantly on other people? But at around NZD $27 to buy online none of the crew were willing to give it a go... well, I'm kind of keen. Not to prove Raye wrong, because I'm on board. I don't see how this would work. I've had some primers cause foundation to pill, so a gel that sits on the skin? I'm not feeling it. BUT... what I am feeling is what happens when you peel the gel off.

Like PVA, but better!!!

So do tell... have you tried Real Skin Patch? If so, how did it work out? Is this something you'd steer clear of? Or, like me, are you a tad tempted if only to enjoy peeling your 'skin' off your face? Chat away!

Ew it looks yuck like a mask not for me thanks!

8th August, 2017

ooh this seems interesting but I don't think I'll be getting into it anytime soon

7th August, 2017

Oh...not so sure about this one!?

Peel off face masks...yes...all for it and love using them. Peel off foundation...ummm...not so sure. Doesn't look very appealing.

I reckon the idea is pretty cool, but it's a shame it didn't work for her. I would like to see if it has worked on someone else. I'll be open to try it if it actually worked

ewwwwww this is gross!!!

Different concept, shame it doesn't seem to follow through on the vloggers that I've seen try it

What a bummer! I hope someone persevere to bring this type of product to life that works well. How cool would it be to put your face on in the morning, then peel it off like a pore strip in the evening! (And secretly marvel at all those gross bits on there!)

I think this sounds interesting, but it's definitely not something I would try myself. Kind of just reminds me of when people use liquid latex for SFX makeup. Bit off topic, but I love ItsMyRayeRaye!

No, I'd never heard of it until now.

It is a no from me!

I never caught on to the PVA glue craze at school. The closest thing to this that I do enjoy is peeling off a nose strip and seeing a forest of blackheads.

It's like putting a peel off face mask on and applying foundation over the to Play! Just a big NOPE!

Although the idea of a layer to protect your skin is understandable, it looks like it would be worse for your skin than applying a primer. Peel masks are just a teensy claustrophobic-feeling for me, but I'm ok for the 20 min I have a mask on. Don't think I'd be comfortable trying a whole day though.

Do you mean PVA?

Good catch. Amended.
