The BR Crew Reveal: Beauty Regrets

27 June, 2016 - 10:16pm by - First Lady | 13 Comments

By BR Kellie

Regrets. We’ve had a few. But unlike Frank we’ve an embarrassing amount to mention… Enough to fill a few articles in fact.

Yes, we were chatting the other day, as we lasses are apt to do, and regrets in general came up, which of course turned to beauty regrets, ranging from cosmetic to skincare, to not doing some stuff, to doing some stuff we shouldn’t have. So for your general amusement, as well as in some cases safety, we thought we’d share. Although we are keeping things mostly anonymous…

If it’s sparkly, shiny or shimmery this crew member is in love with it. She’s a magpie of the beauty world. Her regret? Not being brave enough to get her glow on earlier. Yep, she spent her teens and twenties living in the land of matte, and now that she’s older with even more hooded eyes and little lines appearing all over her face she loves to shimmer – and is willing to do so even if it means highlighting those wrinkles.

We’ve oft gazed at the teeth on this crew member. They’re super straight and her smile is a bit blimmin’ beautiful. Turns out she had braces… after 40. Her regret? Not doing it earlier.

One of our favourites on the crew is not a fan of her hands – likening them to those that belong on the First Lady of Pop, Madonna. Her regret? Not using all the one litre of medicated hand cream her father bought her. What does she regret more? Her inability to find black market prescription hand creams here in in NZ.

Who committed the cardinal beauty sin of using a sunbed in her youth? … and now really wishes she hadn’t?

This Beauty Crew member fell for the old trick of piling skin-stripping products on when she was a teenager, therefore causing even more zits due to her skin going into oil production overdrive. Her regret? Not having something like Beauty Review (and its members) to tell her how to care for her skin properly.

Finally… this rather regal crew member rocked the ‘big hair’ look for far too long. And she’s even agreed to share a photo with us.

Well, that’s one mystery solved. So which BR Crew member do you think regrets what? And what beauty regrets do you carry around with you? Is there something you’d wished you’d done or not done? The Beauty Confessional is open!

Wish I used heat protectant before straightening and not over plucking me eyebrows!!!

19th July, 2016

Oh, I went through an awful phase where I would fill my eyebrows in thinner than they actually were. (?) Not too sure why but they sure looked bad.

2nd July, 2016

Biggest regret, using an eyebrows pencil to emphasize a mole on my face when I was a teen. Worst still a friend saw me doing it on a night out and started doing it too lol. Tragic!

1st July, 2016

We need to see more of these! Look at that beautiful smile :D I have tons of beauty regrets, the worst would be using a black eyeliner pencil and drawing a curve as an eyebrow and thinking they were great (cringe)

Guilty of using bronzer over my normal make up to try to match my fake tan could have applied for the cast of w wonker and the chocolate factory my face was so orange.

28th June, 2016

My biggest beauty regrets would be not being brave enough to get my teeth fixed or a small nose. And never allowing enough time in the morning to do amazing makeup.

28th June, 2016

Kellie I'm shocked!!!! One can never rock big hair for too long!!!

28th June, 2016

Wish I was able to afford braces, I'm in desperate need of them, my teeth are now overcrowded and loose, I'm not looking forward to when I'm older and they eventually fall out -_-

28th June, 2016

I remember when glitter gel was in. I recal putting it through my hair and on my face thinking it was cool. I wouldn't have a clue who this member would be.

28th June, 2016

But big hair was in at the time!

I wished I had got braces as an adult . My mum was a solo with 4 kids as my dad dies when I was 10 and could not afford me to have braces. I did not have the courage to do it as an adult and have spent my live hating my teeth .I would have liked a BR when I was younger too as even in my ripe old age I enjoy it and have learn t so much.

I'd tell you but I'd have to shoot you...

I'm just taking a wild guess but I'm guessing Head Pixie loves her glitters, I'm guessing First Lady may not be a huge fan of her hands (I think she may have mentioned something in an earlier article although that could be Head Pixie again, I remember she did mention something about her poor paws), Queenie loved bigger hairstyles when she was younger. As far as the teeth goes all the beauty pixies have gleaming smiles but the pixie on the left has a way of smiling that makes her straight pearly whites stand out so I'm guessing that's the one that decided to go for braces. So I'm guessing the sunbed would be either Amelia or Tabatha. And the skin stripping products could be anyone, a lot of us did that in our teens. My regret was not wearing sunscreen sooner. I was teased a lot when I was younger being told I didn't need to wear spf because of my tan skin therefore it didn't burn as much as lighter skinned people so therefore I didn't need it if I was only going to be outside for a few hours unless I was going to be at the beach. My other regret was not getting into skincare sooner and all the cheap makeup I wore when I was younger, instead of investing in a few quality items. Actually I did buy some expensive stuff but I should've trimmed down the amount of stuff I bought makeup wise and invested in good skincare. Thank goodness I rarely slept with makeup on, I think it was partly because I knew it was poor quality so I couldn't sleep with it on. So maybe it worked out to my benefit in a way. Oh one last thing I should've started waxing my upper lip much sooner but I think I was worried that the hair would get darker and thicker plus didn't have any waxing strips available in the country I was living in.

I too wish I had the guts to get braces but cost is really one of the bigger factors of not going through with it. You can get invisible braces now but they are only suitable for certain situations. Talk to your dentist next visit.

I've looked at invisilign as ab alternative to braces as an adult. In fact I am still considering them.

I'd love hollywood teeth, but it would take more than braces sadly...
