Gorgeous Superhero Kirsty!

Compiled by BR Natalie

So you might remember we went a little bit crazy over raising our Brow Game a few weeks ago.  The new range of Maybelline Brow Products had us in a bit of a spin - three very different and unique products, with fabulous claims attached.  There was only one thing to do.  We rallied our Superheroes and asked them to each put the three products to the test - and report back.  Here's how they got on!

Brow Precise - $18.99

kirstyj - The Maybelline Brow Precise was the first of the trio that really caught my eye. I chose the lightest shade which was blonde. The shade is a nice ashy darker blonde which is perfect for my skintone. The packaging is pretty simple at first glance but I actually think it is really smart. There is the pencil at one end and the spoolie at the other. The genius part of this packaging it that the lids on both sides are clear. With my expensive Hourglass brow pencil the lids are opaque so you never know which end you are opening, no problem with this one. Now the product itself is quite awesome. The pencil is really waxy so you can quite lightly fill in your brows for a natural look. The waxy-ness also means that I didn't feel like I needed anything else to keep them in place all day. For me this product is my favourite out of the three and makes doing your brows easy and simple.

Shana_Banana84 - Maybelline Brow PreciseI like the spoolie on the end of the pencil to keep any stray hairs in check but it’s quite abrasive on my sensitive skin.  I chose deep brown which again is a dark brown to make my brows stand out.  The thing I found with the pencil is it crumbles at the drop of a hat.  I pressed lightly to create an outline and the pencil simply crumbled on my skin.  I had to resharpen it and start again. Again it broke.  I used it the lightest way possible and still it drew a small line before falling apart again.  I like to make my lines deliberate and precise.  This pencil creates feathery strokes.  It shouldn’t be called Brow Precise with a performance like that. I like the spoolie but that’s as far as it goes.

BinaryBeauty - Maybelline Brow Precise comes in a the typical pencil design, with the pencil at one end, and the spoolie at the other. The design is really simple so of course it's easy to use, but I dislike how its not a mechanical pencil. I really like the formula of the pencil. It is pigmented, and really creamy which I know is not everyone's cup of tea, and I myself also prefer waxy pencils, but its nice to have some variety in my collection. My only grudge with the pencil is how thick it is & that the spoolie is kind of rough . Overall, I actually liked using this pencil which creates a really natural, full brow! However, the brow doesn't last the whole day so I recommend setting it with a wet brow product if you have one handy.

Brow Drama - $14.99

kirstyj - Although I found the Maybelline Brow precise to be an awesome all in one product I was still excited to try the Brow Drama. I chose the shade transparent as they don't have a blonde shade for this product. Every now and again when I want a really precise look I like to use a powder then a clear gel in my brows to make sure that they stay in place. I love the packaging of this product as well. In other brow gels I have used they have a clear packaging so when they get a wee bit of brow product in them they start to look murky and gross. At least with this black plastic packaging you won't notice. Now this is where the product started to scare me about it... the spoolie looks like a torture device! I have seen a few reviews of this online where they have cut off the round end and just left the normal spoolie looking bit. But I really like the round part though as it manages to pick up just the right amount of product without overloading your brows. I also really like that it doesn't make your brows shiny either. It holds your brows in place in a comfortable way without feeling particularly crunchy.

Shana_Banana84 -  Maybelline Brow Drama a mascara like product, but for the brows.  It made me take a sideways glance at it because I had never heard of mascara for brows before now.  I chose the colour dark brown because I like my brows to be bold and match my undercut.  The spoolie was odd to me.  It is quite bulbous at the tip and had me thinking ‘oh I know this will be messy’.  My apprehension was blown wide apart.  The spoolie collects the perfect amount of product every time I redip the wand!  I read on the  Maybelline website that to get the best results brush your eyebrows forward, against the growth and then brush it back through.  It made such a difference to the finish of the procuct.  The product clings to even the finest of hairs and makes it stand up and take notice.

I would liken the formula to thinned down mascara for eyelashes.  It sticks to the spoolie without being messy.  I was nervous about the appearance of it on my brows looking too much like gel’d down brows.  To be honest they look very natural and well filled in.  It was almost impossible to mess them up seeing they only cling to the brow hairs.  It didn’t venture anywhere else on my forehead which is what made me nervous more than anything.  I like how easy it is to use but I prefer a defined brow with deliberate lines.  This makes them appear too bushy and too natural for me.

BinaryBeauty - Maybelline Brow Drama.  I had seen this product around, and had been tempted to pick it up, so when I finally got the chance to try it I was pretty excited. It comes in a basic plastic tube, but the brush is not the average brow brush, but is a sphere which is quite big, and pointy. Personally, I find it so gimmicky & way too big for its purpose.

The formula of this product feels quite wet and watery, but it does have dark pigmentation & the brush does not pick up enough product.  I find when i run this over my brows six or so times, they do look a bit neater, slightly darker and groomed. But it does not fill in my brows, there is no drama and the results definitely aren't instant.I wouldn't repurchase this again.

Brow Satin - $14.99

kirstyj The last product I tried was the Brow Satin in Dark Blonde. This product is so different from anything else I have tried for my brows! At one end is a gel type pencil (not as creamy as the Brow Precise) and at the other a wee sponge with powder on it. To be honest I had to go onto Youtube to figure out how to use it. Maybelline have some great videos on there with how to use it. So the idea is that you first use the pencil part to lightly fill in your brows then put the powder on top and it sticks to the penciled in parts. I found it weird to have a brow pencil without a spoolie included, but a pencil only has two ends I suppose! I found this a bit strange to use but it did create a nice natural look. My one problem with this product was I got a wee bit of fall out with the powder and as it was so pigmented that even if I tiny bit dropped onto your face it is quite hard to flick off without ending up with a line of colour across my face (especially when I do my brows after doing the rest of my face makeup). I did like it though and I think it makes for a easy and natural looking way of filling in your brows if you had sparse parts.

Shana_Banana84 -  Maybelline Brow SatinThis one excited me the most out of all of them.  I loved the whole feel of having a brow compact in a pencil form.  I decided again on the dark brown colour to make my brows bold.  Both ends have a lid one being a push on lid and the other being a screw on brown lid for the powder end.  The gel pencil is a wind up and is very thin.  It makes it easier to get definitive lines on my brows.  It allows me to get a sharper finish and a better arch.

I love that it has the best way to have your brows picture on the pencil.  It shows the measurements of where the brow should start and where the arch should be compared to your nose and eyes.  It’s great information for a person like me, who is still learning.  The dusting powder is a whole other dimension for me!  It has what looks like a smudger, sponge tip on it.  The powder is very like it’s name suggests.  It’s satin feeling and goes on smoothly.  You press the pencil in like a pump action to get the powder to come to the tip.  It makes it awkward and hard to use if you have to pump it again and again.  It doesn’t actually do a great job of filling in my brows at all.  The only part I like is the gel pencil so this is a big fail.

BinaryBeauty - I have the darkest shade this comes in, and the packaging is really sleek and simple. It comes in a plastic casing, with a dark lid on each side so you can't tell which end is which is a bit of a pain.

One end has a pencil which I really like. The size is something I'm used to working with so I found it easy to create the look i wanted with small strokes as well as more defined lines. The other end has a white sponge tip and you simply push down on the tip to release the powder. I found I had to push down a few times for the powder to start coming out but that was only the first time. I do find the click-type dispenser a bit gimmecky, but I don't know how else that could design it. I think this end is a good idea because it smooths out harsh lines and fills in other gaps which is perfect. Overall, I really like this product and it is my favourite brow product from Maybelline. It gives my brows a filled out look, and can be quite natural depending on how you blend and fill your brows out.

So there you have it.  1 brand.  3 very different brow products.  3 Review Superhero Opinions.
