Superhero Mystery Shopping Assignment - Olaplex at Hue

Being one of our three Superheroes has some perks. The most enviable (other than the cape) has to be the chance to mystery shop a beauty counter, salon or shop.  Oh yes, we give our Superheroes some spending money and send them undercover in the beauty industry.

When it came to choosing a mission for our yummy mummy Superhero Kellyleanne we knew we had to take advantage of her fabulous hair...which meant there was only one thing to do.  Send her for an Olaplex treatment at a swanky colour-only salon in Auckland!

What was the assignment you were given?

To go for an Olaplex treatment and Blowwave at HUE Ponsonby.

Describe your first impressions of your experience?

Hue is a salon that specialises in hair colour. They don't do hair cuts, as their focus is on giving you "pure, fabulous colour"- such a great concept.

My first thought walking through the doors of Hue was how colourful, fun and funky the salon is. The interior is both well presented and stylish - throughout it is decorated with splashes of bright red and yellow. The name of the salon is so fitting with the style. The salon feels both spacious and inviting, with comfortable chairs and a great range of magazines..bliss.

They have a separate styling area, where if you choose, you can blow wave and style your own hair after your colour. This is a great idea for people who are on a budget or wanting to save time. Otherwise, they also offer a blow wave and styling by the hairdresser if that's what you prefer.

When I entered the salon I was greeted immediately by the stylist, who was friendly and welcoming. If you are looking for pampering this definitely delivers.

What questions did they ask you before commencing your consultation?  What information did you give them?

Sheryl asked what I was looking to get done with my hair today. She carefully listened to me and then confirmed that she understood exactly what I was after.

That I wanted to try the treatment that everyone is currently raving about...the one and only Olaplex! I also wanted to lighten up my hair with highlights, to give me a change for spring and then a blow wave to finish it off. I explained that normally my hair can be dry and rebellious after colouring, so I was hoping that Olaplex was the answer to shiny, healthy hair.

Describe what happened during your consultation. Talk about the environment, how you felt during the appointment, your consultant’s attitude:

The stylist was friendly and talked me through what was happening during the visit. She applied my highlights with ease, waited for them to develop and then washed my hair. It was then time for application of the Olaplex treatment- what I was most excited about! It was so relaxing sitting in the comfortable massage chair, as the stylist applied the Olaplex treatment throughout my hair. Around ten minutes later it was time to wash my hair and give my scalp a massage, which was gentle and so relaxing. My hair was then blow dried straight, leaving my hair super glossy and with lots of volume.

Sheryl was very experienced, confident and she made me feel at ease during the visit. I felt like all my questions were answered well and she was knowledgeable about all aspects of hairdressing. Sheryl explained that Olaplex was a treatment that made it possible to colour your hair without the usual damage. She said with colouring, the bonds of the hair get easily damaged and weakened, which can leave you with dry, damaged and coarse hair. By using Olaplex it rebonds the hair, so you can colour your hair but keep it shiny, healthy and soft - this was my type of treatment! Sheryl said that she colours her hair all of the time and uses Olaplex every time. She has shiny, beautiful locks, so this was exciting and I was so eager to see how Olaplex would work for me!

What did you like about your experience?

There's so many positive aspects about this salon. I like the comfortable atmosphere, how friendly the stylists are, the good communication and how knowledgeable they seem. I especially like the Olaplex treatment, as it was so worthwhile.

Anything you didn’t like?

I really enjoyed my visit today, and there is nothing negative to say.

Were you happy with the outcome from your experience?

Yes!  Most definitely, and every time I colour my hair in the future I will be getting Olaplex - that's how impressive it is. For the past year I've really refrained from colouring my hair, as it tends to really contribute to my hair becoming really dry, damaged and quite frizzy - which isn't the best combination! Now that there's Olaplex I will be colouring my hair more often.

I love that the Olaplex treatment gives you the opportunity to colour your hair without weakening your hair. Overall, I'm really impressed with the condition of my hair - it's hard to believe I have just had it coloured. After my visit, I now have lovely highlights for summer, but the condition of my hair isn't compromised. My hair feels so silky smooth, untangly and glossy- a big high five to Olaplex.

Would you visit this place again, if you were paying for it yourself?

I can't wait to visit this salon again in the future.
