Do you dream of long straight locks that could be tossed about in a gleaming wave like the models do in shampoo advertisements? Sure, some (rare) folk are born with hair that sits poker straight, the rest of us have to work for it and that means trying out tools in order to find the one that work for us (it’s a tough job but somebodies got to do it…). Usually when you think of straightening tools you think of the basic straightener, but are there other options out there? You bet there are! From the affordable to the extravagant, check these hair straightening alternatives out…
Instyler Rotating Hot Iron ($129.99) If you’re a TV watcher this curling straightening wonder machine won’t be anything new to you, but if you haven’t, it could be what you’re looking for! Not only does it claim to curl and straighten hair, it says it will do it with less heat, meaning less damage. Now if you’re a regular straightener that’s got to be of interest. So how does it measure up? Well, to be honest, people seem to have a love/hate relationship with it – but you know what, if you can get your hands on one for a test drive, this could be the best thing your hair has ever seen.
VS Sassoon Intense Protect Wet & Dry Straightener. Sure, sure, this may look like a run of the mill straightener – but there’s a difference – you can use it on wet hair, which if you’re a person who finds they have to, or prefer to, wash their hair daily this product may make styling in the morning a breeze! (Cutting out blow-drying? Yes please!) How does it work? According to VS Sassoon’s website, it has a special venting system that allows moisture to escape through steam instead of remaining in the hair shafts, which leaves hair straight and smooth as it dries. At the time of writing this was priced anywhere between $50 and $99 online, making it a good option for the budget conscious.
Agave Healing Vapor Iron ($149.99 US). I know, I know, it’s another iron – but it had the word ‘vapor’ in it and I got a bit excited. What is a ‘vapor iron’ and why do I need it? Turns out this straightening iron is to be used in conjunction with a Vapor Infusion. Basically you fill a cartridge with the infusion, pop it into the straightener and hit a button that releases the vapor whilst you straighten your hair. In a nutshell you’re conditioning your hair while you straighten it. That’s kind of genius.
The Straightening Brush. If you’re a whizz with a blow dryer but would like extra smooth locks, a straightening brush, like the Denman Thermoceramic Straightening Brush ($20 US) is an easy way to get sleek hair without breaking the bank. Just brush while you blow and you’re ready to go!
DAFNI Hair Straightening Brush. ($300 US) This could be the most exciting invention of all. It actually had BRHQ a bit aflutter. The DAFNI Hair Straightening Brush promises to straighten your hair in minutes and all you have to do is brush your hair – albeit slower than you usually might. Also, as it sits at 185 degrees Celsius, it’s kinder on hair too. We likey.
Can’t lie – there’s a whole lot of hope in those products. The only downside? Some of them aren’t available in New Zealand yet (not that that’s stopped us from getting our hands on things we want before!)
So have you tried any of these products? What were your thoughts on them? Are you keen to? Or are you happy to stick to your usual straightener? Get talking….
A straightening brush?! I need this in my life. My hair has a mind of its kwn, I'm always having to brush my hair to get the knots out, how awesome would it be to have straight hair every time I brush it ;D
