Who doesn’t love a good bun? They can be elegant or easy-going, sophisticated or simple. They’re a go-to look when you’re time poor, not in the mood to spend ages on your hair, or when you need to look like you didn’t just roll out of bed. Best of all, the bun is a look that can be achieved with as little as a hair tie and a quick finger-rake of your hair.

Of course, you can get more technical than ‘up, twist and secure’. There are plenty of beautiful bun styles that involve more than a minutes work, like twisted braids, the prim and perfect ballerina bun, even the ‘messy’ bun can take some time to get just right. So just what does a woman need to create hot buns other than a good old hair tie or two?

Bobby pins are great for securing a bun (don’t forget to insert with the sticky up part of the pin upside down – it really does grip better than way), but if you really want to make sure your bun is going to look picture perfect, even after walking around in a stiff southerly or gusty nor’west wind, secure it with Cameo’s amazing bobby spinners. Not only do they have the strength of 20 bobby pins, but they help create structure and style too.

If you want to achieve a picture perfect bun check out hairbun makers, like the one you can get here from NZ’s own Bossy Cosmetics. Or if you’re a bit of a DIYer you can even create the perfect bun with a sock.

Another tip? If you want to add lift to your look be sure to have the Cameo Teasing Brush from Beauty Review’s latest Beauty Box on hand. It’s a fabulous brush for creating volume at the roots of your hair, and it’s also great for stopping an attack of the fluffies – you know, those annoying flyaways that like to frame a girl’s face messing up your carefully put together style. Simply spray hairspray straight onto the brush and smooth along the areas of your hair that are prone to getting a halo to keep them under control.

Stuck for inspiration? Head over to the Videos page and check out our Bun tutorials, then why not give them a go, upload your looks to the Photo Wall and show us your buns!

Every member who uploads a photo of their bun* and tags it with the 'Show Us Your Bun' tag will earn 25 Beauty Points!

*Must be a bun in your hair.  You know, a hair bun.  On you!

I have hair down to my bum but bring a mum most of the time it'd in a bun. I recently purchased a hair donut. Best thing I've brought in a long time!!

I wish I could do a big fat hair bun! Sadly my hair buns look like a small fur ball, with the lack of hair and being so thin and fine, even teasing it doesnt give me a big bun, but I love seeing ladies rocking buns of all types :)

Ooh that's such a good tip to use hairspray on the teasing brush for flyaway! I need some hair inspiration for my daughter's wedding...I am doing it myself :/

I do like to mix up my week with a bun or twist knot.

Buns are so good at hiding the oilyness of my hair I call it the laziness lump

Love buns! So quick and easy to get the hair up and out of your face

A bun on the right person looks lovely, I have never tried one though, always stick to ponytails.

I love using the bobby spinners we got to make a bun.

18th May, 2015

I love this look but I have sticky out ears at the top so this look does not suit me

I love buns! So super easy, and such a great way to control this mane - dead easy to get a groomed look for work when I'm running late or having a bad hair day :)

My hair is usually braided and clamped up to accommodate my daily workout. It's been awhile since I've done the classic bun with bobby pins. Those bun makers really do work but I found unless they're really long they suit short to medium length hair better.

I finally have hair long enough to tie back and almost get a decent bun out of (thanks mostly to the Cameo bobbie spinners in the last BRBB. Hopefully soon I might be able to do a bit more with my hair.

I love that you say it is a go to look for the time poor - for me on a daily basis it takes way too much time to do an up do. Most of the time I just leave my hair down. BUT for sure I will try to get up on time to do a bun for this week :)

17th May, 2015

I love buns, but alas, I dont have enough hair for one right now. I am trying to grow my hair long enough for a bun.

I love a messy bun, it's definately my go too and with my hair badly needing some tlc I will. Be rocking it a few times this week. I've tried a doughnut but I've thick long hair so it looks like a massive bun lol will try my bobby spinners this week I had forgotten I had them from the last beauty box naughty girl! :)
