Red nails - they're always in style. And they fit so many looks - from the Femme Fatale to a Vampyric beauty. From a 50s pin up to a Country singer. Retro, rebellious, lady, classic, promiscuous, dangerous, daring, bold. Just a few words that come to mind when you picture red nails.
But this look started way (way) back - in fact Nefertiti and Cleopatra were amongst the first to rock red nails. The more bold and striking the shades of red on an Egyptian's nails, the more powerful a person they were. Henna and blood would be used to create nail polish back then.
Red nails really kicked in with the invention of Technicolor - The nails of Rita Hayworth, Elizabeth Taylor and other 50s starlets were finally seen in all their glory - and there was nothing more glorious (or promiscuous, or rebellious) than red nails.
And we're more in love with them today - from corals to blood red, from reds so deep they're almost black to glittery shades that make Dorothy's slippers look dull, red remains the most popular colour in nail polish sales.
Long red nails have developed a certain reputation - a rather scary one. So how should a woman of the 2010s rock the red? Long or short? Talons or a more modest length?
I think they look great on both how ever the long and pointy just make me think Halloween vampires
