The beauty industry is constantly coming up with new ideas and products - it's an exciting industry to be a part of.  From beauty apps to anti-wrinkle pillows, from beauty products for your pet to chicken poop for your lips there's always something new, strange or exciting on the horizon.

And the next big thing in makeup is...paper makeup.  No we're not talking about blotting paper, but little one-use sheets of foundation, highlighter, blush and eye and lip colours.  Thinking this will never take off?  That paper can not possible compete with all of those painstakingly perfected mousse, liquid, powder, gel and cream formulas?  Keep reading!

Mai Couture have produced these cute little papiers - they look like traditional blotting paper, but are pigmented in colours suited to their intention. Prices range from around $25 - $100.  To use, you simply remove a paper from the book and press to your face.  Apply using circular motions and build up to the colour depth you want.  Throw away and off you pop!  You can even buy stylish 'wallets' to store your collection in!

Other benefits include;

  • Easy touch-ups through the day
  • Space saving - so they won't bulk out your bag.
  • They're easy to transport - no more spills or broken compacts!
  • They're hygienic - no cross contamination from fingers, sponges or brushes.

Now if you're still thinking this will never work, how about this?  Former Vogue Beauty Director Anna-Marie Solowij has hand-picked the range for her boutique store, and she knows a thing or two about beauty products!

So what do you think of paper makeup?  Genius or a flop in the making?  Have you tried anything similar and would you be keen to try these?

Im not sure i would hold much confidence for these. Although in theory they should be amazing but i just have so many questions, how much coverage does one sheet give you? How long will it last? What is the science behind it all? For that kind of price how many sheets do you get? Definitely would give a sample a go but really cant see myself purchasing these any time soon!

Meh! Recognition from a Vogue Beauty Director isn't going to make me spend $100 on a few pieces of paper that is said to be "throwed out" after a few applications. I dunno. Who knows... I might mistakenly write notes on them haha. I would rather buy a compact fo sho!

Not for me! I can't see myself rubbing paper on my face successfully.

Wow. I never knew things like this existed. It just goes to show the power of technology and innovation and how things keep on improving.

Wow this sounds very interesting. I'm wondering how easy it would be to blend, build the right coverage, contour etc. I've heard of wipe on eyeshadow, but not for other make up items. This would be very handy for holidays etc though

Hmm, not sure about this idea. Paper = cheap, and not exactly luxurious, yet the price seems pretty high. And do I end up with crinkly crumply bits of paper all through my handbag?

26th September, 2014

I would totally give it a go... but it sounds so weird!!

26th September, 2014

Yeah im not convinced, I just dont see how this could compare. But hey if any of you ladies do try it let us all know :D

I feel like these would be super hard to actually apply properly, and also quite expensive!

25th September, 2014

Sounds interesting and would love to try it. Price wise I think its expensive and if its a brilliant product that performs I might pay a bit more, but up to a $100 is a bit tooooo much.

25th September, 2014

I don't think this would work .. Sounds very odd to me

25th September, 2014

Very interesting... Dont know how good this would be compared to normal makeup but I would like to try it, maybe not for $100 though.

25th September, 2014

Possibly as a quick fix or in a rush? I'd try it

25th September, 2014

Intriguing.... I'd give it a go!

I think there would still be a certain amount of wastage, unless you try to use the paper more than once to get best value out of it. I know my make up lasts quite sometime and I think you would go through these a lot faster. Maybe a pack in the handbag for touching up make up during the day might be okay but not confident I would use them as a core product.
