After a long, cold winter it's only natural to set your sights on somewhere far from home. Maybe somewhere exotic? Maybe somewhere where you will be pampered? Well while we're daydreaming we might as well be picturing ourselves somewhere fabulous right?
And who knows fabulous better than the designers whose clothes we lust after, whose fragrances we spritz for a little glamour in our day, whose makeup we save for and relish every time we use it? Not surprisingly when you're known as the epitome of taste everyone wants you to design for them - including hoteliers.
So we're going to take you on a little tour of the world, stopping in the most fabulous of designer rooms en route. And if one piques your interest, click on the image to find out more.
Let's start our tour in a little town called London. The Grand Piano Suite and 19 other rooms at Claridge's were designed by Diane von Furstenberg. If you're not familiar with her designs, she created the legendary print wrap dress - a flattering wardrobe staple for all. Her rooms feature bold prints that compliment the 1930s architecture in an almost maddening fashion. If you think muted tiger stripes and pink leopard print can't be classy, well, you're wrong!
Off to Berlin, where our favourite man with the cat designed the 54 rooms of the Schlosshotel im Grunewald. Belle epoque furniture (original of course), luxurious linens and all marble bathrooms. Can anyone say heaven?
Next up, the St. Regis in New York City. The House of Dior created a 1,700-square-foot suite that reflects Dior's Montaigne headquarters in Paris. And Dior is everywhere in the 'whispering grey' room. There's bows on sconces, French period carved furniture and gold (real of course) accent. The focal part of the room is the water-colour showcasing four Dior dresses. Classic. Simple. Elegant.
Staying in NYC but ducking across town we arrive at The Plaza. And this one is for the princess in your life. Renowned 'bonkers' designer Betsey Johnson has created paradise for your girls with the Eloise Suite. Candy striped walls, zebra print carpet and a neon sign above the bed are just a few of the features of this room designed to sleep four. The parent's room next door is less pink and less bold, but come on as if we'd be sleeping there!
Let's dart to the Caribbean to the Tortuga Bay Resort, Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. SATC's Carrie Bradshaw sparked our love of Oscar de La Renta and we've just found another reason to continue loving him. The blissful surroundings are echoed in the simplistic natural themed rooms - wicker and wood furniture, crisp white linens and all the amenities you could want. Including a bathroom full of of de La Renta toiletries.
And off to the ultimate honeymoon destination - Mauritius. The One&Only resort has quite possibly the most romantic 'suite' we've seen. Embrace your bohemian heart in the jewel encrusted Alice Temperley teepee. Complete with a Parisian chandelier.
Next we're checking in to the Armani Hotel - found inside the world's tallest building, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. Like the designer's clothing, the suites are minimalistic. The service is anything but - with first class spa services and of course, Armani boutiques should the urge to spend arise.
Lastly we head just across the ditch to the Palazzo Versace on the Gold Coast. Famed for being the first fashion branded hotel, the Versace has 200 hotel rooms, seventy-two neighbouring condos, 3 restaurants and for the sailors among us, a 90 berth marina. Every inch of the hotel is opulent, and the rooms are as stylish as one would hope.
So there's a quick trip around the globe in the most fashionable of hotels. Have you visited any of these designer destinations? Or are any of these on your wishlist? Get daydreaming below!
We stayed at Traders is Kuala Lumpua a few years ago...it really spoilt us for anything else!
