Moisturisers - Do You Prefer Cream or Lotions?

Do you moisturise more in the summer?  Although winter is notorious for playing havoc with our skin, for some people it's even more difficult to keep up with their skin's needs in the warmer months.

We've spoken quite a lot in the past about changing your products to best compliment your skin and tend to its needs as the seasons change.  Your moisturiser is no different.  In the Winter you're likely to need a more intense product like a moisturising cream.  In the Summer you might find that your regular moisturiser is too heavy and leaves your face feeling greasy to touch.

What's the difference between a cream and a lotion?  Well essentially the difference is the mix of oil to water, with creams being thicker and richer, and lotions more watery.  Lotions work well on skin that isn't particularly dry and on areas covered in hair.  They're generally also great for the face, unless you're suffering dry skin.  Creams are fantastic for areas of dryness and are really effective at restoring, and sealing moisture in the skin.

So what happens when you have dry skin but it's Summer so your usual cream is too heavy, and a lotion just doesn't combat the dryness? We're glad you asked!

We're putting the Dr LeWinn’s Light Day Moisturiser SPF to the test.  This light-weight, non-greasy day cream offers instant and non‐stop hydration AND SPF15 protection.  It promises to leave all skin types nourished and protected and retails for $59.99 at your local Farmers.

It contains Hydroviton® Plus and a Super Berry Trio (Pepperberry, Riberry & Muntrie) proven to protect and nourish, antioxidant‐rich Argan oil, as well as Vitamin A (Retinyl Palmitate) which encourages cell renewal and addresses the visible signs of ageing.

We think it sounds pretty darn fab, but of course, we don't get to do the testing - that's your job.

So tell us, do you change your moisturiser with the seasons?  Do you usually opt for a lotion or a cream?  Would you prefer to use a cream but find your regular one too heavy for Summer?  How about SPF?   Is it a deciding factor when choosing a moisturiser?

This year I have started changing my moisturizer with the seasons. With Winter just gone I used a special moisture cream. I usually use a cream but yes I am finding my cream to be too heavy for summer! SPF is so so important to me! I barely even look at products that don't contain SPF (unless they are evening products) - with our harsh NZ sun we really need to lather that SPF on! Yes you can just use a sunscreen over top but I don't really have the time for that. SPF is definitely a deciding factor when choosing a product. I would love to trial this product, it sounds perfect for me!

I always use an SPF moisturiser all year round. I used to think that I didn't need to wear face moisturiser in the summer because my skin is really oily and it just makes it look even shinier. However I have learnt that its important to still moisturise your skin even in summer. I would love to try this lightweight face moisturiser and see if it can balance my oily skin in the summer.

I am a moisturiser freak lol lotions for day and cream for night is my routine, i was always told that moisturiser is the most important part of a routine, summer takes the moisture from my skin and this would be fantastic to try, love love love!

I am really noticing the change of season's on my skin, and unfortunately, not for the better! I would really like to try this to see if it would improve my skin. I moisturize every day, if I don't my skin becomes tight Personally, there is that fine line between needing hydration and not overdoing it and getting oily skin. Given that the DR Lewinn's has both sunscreen, and anti aging properties, that peaks my intrest!!

I love cream moisturiser because I have super dry skin, i need something that's really gonna get in there and do the job well!! I find lotions a bit too light for my skin, i need something slightly more heavy duty.

I use the same facial moisturiser all year round, I have yet to find any moisturiser that doesn't make my face feel greasy eventually.

I definitely use a heavier cream in winter but lighten up a hit in summer. SPF is very important to me especially in summer. Dr Lewinns products are highly recommended and I would love to trial this moisturiser.

I would love to trial this for you. I use a cream at the moment and if there's a better way I would really Luke to try. Thank you cause at my age I willing to try all.

I think my moisturiser is a cream (it just says it's a moisturiser and that's all) but it has SPF 30 in it. I use it all year round. SPF is a must for me because sunscreen is far too thick and stinky on the face. I'd love to try this as I have quite dry skin and need a hydrating moisturiser

I prefer creams all year around as my skills n gets quite dry. Lately though I've had to be more careful which creams I use as some can make me break out butnlotuons are still not enough for my skin. I would love to try this product as I am always wary of spending money on new products without knowing how they will suit my skin but it sounds perfect and I love this brand.

I definitely prefer a cream, lotions for me end up everywhere! For some reason the ease of application is top on my list, but also during summer it needs to be light weight, in the heat you don't want to be going out with masses of weight on your body or face!

4th December, 2016

oooooo yes please would love to try! im definitely a cream girl, i have such dry skin and love the way a cream feels on my face when applied - i find they are normally alot more hydrating and also makes my makeup go on a lot better. Always on the look out for a new cream - the ingredients for this one sounds divine. Lightweight for summer - yes please!

4th December, 2016

I don't really have a preference. I usually go straight to the creams, but have recently branched out to an Olay lotion.

2nd December, 2016

I prefer a cream a little goes a long way although lotions absorb faster.
