Do You Use a Protectant When Heat Styling?

We all know that styling, colouring and environmental factors can damage our hair - but it doesn't stop us partaking now does it?!

Today we're talking about damage caused by heat styling, and no that's not just your straighteners!  With regular use, any form of styling using heat will inevitably lead to some damage; even your trusty hair dryer!

A really cool way to tell if your hair is suffering from heat damage is The Water Test.  When you next find a stray hair, run your finger nail down the shaft to curl it (like curling ribbon with scissors).  If when you drop the curled strand in a glass of water, it doesn't uncurl it means your hair has lost it's elasticity.  Heat styling is normally the cause - it causes the cuticle to lift up to lift up, releasing valuable moisture and leaving shafts brittle.

Now of course, there are lots of hair products for repairing damaged hair, but as your nanna would say; prevention is better than cure.  The easiest way to protect your hair is to use a Heat Protection Spray whenever you use ANY form of heat styling.

We're looking for 20 reviewers to put the Schwarzkopf got2b Guardian Angel spray to the test.  This spray will protect your hair from heat damage - up to 220 degrees!

If you'd like a spot on this trial team why not chat to us about your heat styling habits!  How often do you subject your hair to heat styling?  What heat tools do you regularly use?  And the burning question...are you currently using protection?!

I blow dry my hair and straighten or curl it at least 1-2 times a week. I am always running out of heat protectant. I'd love to try this product to protect my hair - it sounds amazing!

I would love to try this as I have no idea what protectant I should use as I colour my hair. I'm sure my hair would be much better if I used one.

I'm in I worked for Rodney Wayne for 3 years and recently left to return to study and have a good knowledge on heat protect sprays creams etc

I have only ever used this when getting my hair done at a salon - do they really protect your hair?

Love this sort of product! I use it when I have a spray on hand. I use "NAK" a purple shampoo that has a heat protector in it but there are days where I don't want to wash my hair and would love to try this as a tame my wavy hair by straightening it.

Ahhh, no I don't use anything. No wonder I can't get that sleek look! I blow dry every other day and straighten every day, my poor hair it really does get thrashed. Id love to trial this, so would my hair!

I didn't even know about heat protection. I straight my curly fringe everyday and it is so parched looking I think this product would make a real difference. Leave in conditioners just leave your hair greasy.

Always use a heat protectant. Sprays seem to cover more that creams imo

I blow dry and straighten my long coloured frizzy hair 2-3 tmes a week, am an avid user of heat protection products due to the stress I put my hair under and keen to find a great product at a good affordable proice point!

I know I really need to but I always forget to buy one and I just never know which is a good one. This looks great and would love to trial it.

I was using a heat protect spray but ran out and never bothered to replace it. I tend to straighten my hair because it's ringlety when left to its own devices. I also curl it to get my curls more curly and not ringlet like. My hair has snapped off a bit in the front because of using heat styling tools. I would love to try this to see if it's worth it and whether my hair can repair a bit while it's being protected. I straighten or curl depending on my mood every second or third day, so quite often really.

I blow dry my hair so it doesn't get frizzy, and occasionally curl it. I use a heat protect spray but I'm not sure that it's very good.

20th May, 2018

Im horrendous with heat protection. I blow dry my hair every time I wash it and often curl my hair with a straightener. But... it's like I just can't be bothered buying a heat protectant! It's funny because I'm so meticulous with skincare and sunscreen, but leave my hair to suffer. The spray looks really cool, but my question is how much of a difference will it make? And is it worth the extra effort and time?

20th May, 2018

Would love to try this on my dyed blonde hair. I use a straightener and a hairdryer everyday to stop my thin hair kinking to the side! I've never used a protector!

20th May, 2018

I've had dry skin, dry hair, dry everything. My hair is so dry, I always get static on planes. Yikes. I always use a hair protectant if I blow-dry my hair, and especially if I use any hot tools on it.

Would be interesting to try this product out because I've never seen a heat protectant product claim any defence against a set degree before! Sounds like they've done their research.
