Do You Use a Protectant When Heat Styling?

We all know that styling, colouring and environmental factors can damage our hair - but it doesn't stop us partaking now does it?!

Today we're talking about damage caused by heat styling, and no that's not just your straighteners!  With regular use, any form of styling using heat will inevitably lead to some damage; even your trusty hair dryer!

A really cool way to tell if your hair is suffering from heat damage is The Water Test.  When you next find a stray hair, run your finger nail down the shaft to curl it (like curling ribbon with scissors).  If when you drop the curled strand in a glass of water, it doesn't uncurl it means your hair has lost it's elasticity.  Heat styling is normally the cause - it causes the cuticle to lift up to lift up, releasing valuable moisture and leaving shafts brittle.

Now of course, there are lots of hair products for repairing damaged hair, but as your nanna would say; prevention is better than cure.  The easiest way to protect your hair is to use a Heat Protection Spray whenever you use ANY form of heat styling.

We're looking for 20 reviewers to put the Schwarzkopf got2b Guardian Angel spray to the test.  This spray will protect your hair from heat damage - up to 220 degrees!

If you'd like a spot on this trial team why not chat to us about your heat styling habits!  How often do you subject your hair to heat styling?  What heat tools do you regularly use?  And the burning question...are you currently using protection?!

Just started trying to use a curling wand for the first time, definitely need something to protect my hair because it takes a few attempts to get it right!

I like a heat protectant the doesn’t feel sticky or heavy. I like my hair to still feel clean and fresh but not get fried by a straightener

My poor hair takes a battering with blow drying & irons everyday. Haven't found a really good heat protection product yet and would seriously love to give this ago!

I'm a fan of ceramic straighteners for when I need to look sleek for a night out or work. I have a product but its a bit too oily so I'm looking for something different

I blow dry & straighten my hair. It is also bleached & coloured so I try to minimise the heat damage by only straightening when I really need to & also using heat protective products. I am currently using Schwarzkopf BC Colour Freeze Thermo-protect cream on the very ends of my hair after washing. Then I use Kiehl's Heat Protective Silk Straightening Cream before drying & straightening. Thanks to Polly Gillespie for this tip.... If I need to use my GHDs inbetween I use Fudge Liquid Erekt Heat Protective Straightening Spray. However I don't really like it as it makes my hair feel really stiff like cardboard. It would be good to see if there is anything better out there.

If I have one, I use it religiously but as soon as it runs out it takes me months to replace it!

I've limited to straightening my hair to once a week just to keep my hair healthy as suggested by the hair dresser. I always use heat protectant even when drying my hair

well since I acquired new straighteners it seems like every other day my hair is going through the rounds - though in saying that, I almost don't need to because my hair stays straight enough for days! would love to try this - new tool new protection! and no, that's not supposed to sound as dirty as it reads bahahahahahaha

I am a slave to my hair dryer and straightners so every 2nd day some bent piece of hair needs sorting. I have tried a variety of products; some have been reasonable but a couple have made my just washed hair look greasy if you overspray. Always looking for a better hair protector to prevent the sizzle and damage.

I use hair protectant, and never heat my cloud nines about 150!!!!

I try to remember to use a protectant, but more often not I don't, which given how often I use a hair straightener on my frizzy/half curly/untamed mess in the past month or so since it started to grow out, is probably very silly. Would be really interested to see how the Schwarzkopf Guardian Angel can help.

I straighten my hair nearly every single day and no matter what I do it ALWAYS gets frizzy. And I've got a pretty good hairdryer as well that's supposed to help with frizz. Need to find something that works for me sooner than later!

I never used to use heat protecting stuff but I do now.

I struggle to find a heat protectant that doesn’t weigh my hair down so would love to try this one out for sure xx

Since I have psoriasis of the scalp I need to find a product that I can use that does what it was supposed to and not aggravate the psoriasis.
