Do You Struggle to Find a Great Facial Sunscreen?

Hello, it's me again - your SPF-obsessed editor.

I get comments all the time about how the boys have 'English Skin' - aka, they're pale.  But here's the thing - both boys are outdoorsy kids.  Jack goes to the park or preschool daily.  I wear Billy every day for a walk.  They're pale because every morning when mama applies her sunscreen, my vampire babies have theirs applied.  And it's re-applied throughout the day.  For us, applying SPF is like brushing your teeth - it's neither a chore nor a burden, it's just part of the routine.  So yes, my little Piwis are pale, but they're still getting their Vitamin D!

The Husband on the other hand - only seems to remember to apply sunscreen when he's rocking the sunburn!  So, assuming we all know the risks of sun exposure (which we do right?) , why are some people not fussed about applying sunscreen?

The common complaints about sunscreen are;

  • It's greasy
  • It smells funny
  • It needs reapplying
  • It stains clothes
  • It leaves youir skin shiny

Well, we've got news for you - yes some products are guilty of all of these things, but many, many products do none of these things.  Just as you can find gorgeous moisturisers out there, you can find fantastic sunscreens too - you just need to find the one for you!

We're putting Cancer Society SPF 50+ Moisturising Face Sun Lotion to the test.  This light-feel sun lotion offers high protection with a dry touch.  There's no shine, oiliness or stickiness, and it won't leave white marks.  The light-weight, easy to spread formula is a cream based sunscreen loaded with Vitamin E.  It offers UVA/UVB broad spectrum, is paraben free and leaves a matte finish.

In short - it sounds like everything you'd want or need from a facial sunscreen.  And with sunscreens like this on the market there really is no excuse not to wear it daily!

We're looking for a team to put this to the test and we're curious as to how many people use sun protection every day - so why not chat to us about your sunscreen habits.  Are you a good girl and use it daily, or are you not particularly judicious about it?  If you don't use SPF every day, why not?

A greasy complexion in the sunshine is "ugh" - I rely on my foundation with the SPF to do its job with the sun but is that sufficient? I doubt it. If this trial product is non-greasy and light, then it's for me.

I work outdoors so sunscreen is a must have for me but 5often find that what I use on my body is too greasy for my face or ends up stinging my eyes when the sweat starts (eww!).

It's all but impossible! All the moisturises etc only have like SPF 10-20 in them usually and are totally gross/greasy/ stinky! For a pale as a zombie girl like me, I need to sunscreen every day, no matter what, but the current stuff just doesn't cut it!

I am always looking for a good facial sunscreen. I wear sunscreen on my face 365 days of the year and it's hard to find one that doesn't turn my skin white. I would love to trial this.

I hadn't seen this one before, it looks promising , I have been using BB cream with some sun protection in it, but need a separate sunscreen as well.

I use sun protection every day especially during the Summer months. I do have SPF in my moisturizer as well so when it does get in the cooler months I don't tend to reapply a facial sunscreen as well as my moisteriser. I do apply at least twice on my face, but could be more diligent....everyone could be I think!

everything is either a measly spf 15 or its just way too greasy and doesn't spread well, would love to try something that actually works!

Yes, hate how thick they are and leave you shiny and it takes a while before makeup goes on as well

13th February, 2017

omg yes! i HATE my clothes being stained - some sunblocks are so thick and gross and leave me looker even paler - i settle for a foundation with SPF but worry its not enough...which it isnt as i always end up with more freckles after summer is over :(

I have never found a good facial sunscreen - they are hard to rub in, the smell to strong, it hurts if you get it in your eyes and they are the best thing in the world for making my face break out!

I want to protect my face but hate nothing more when you apply the sunscreen and its thick and white...and smell is definitely on top of the things that influence my choices.

I love to use an SPF sunscreen/moisturiser but so many leave my skin feeling greasy and like I have a layer of white paint in my skin. Not a good look.

13th February, 2017

Sunscreen just seems to make my skin more oily but so do most products.

11th February, 2017

I have never tried an SPF product that doesn't leave my face greasy or oily , if not straight away then within an hour or so.

Yes I find them too greasy, they make my face all shiny and i worry I'm going to break out with pimples, so I try and get foundations with spf but they are never strong enough for my pale skin. Would love to try this facial sunscreen, sounds great!
