Do you burn candles or melts?

If you're wondering why as a beauty site we're rather obsessed by scented candles, allow me to fill you in.  A year ago, HRH Queen Merilyn of BR, did by royal decree, declare candles a beauty product.  And since then we've put a lot of candle brands, from companies big and small, to the test.

The right scented candle will not only fragrance your home, it will create a peaceful atmosphere.  It will enhance the ambiance and allow you to feel comfortable and relaxed.  Once you begin your scented candle journey, you'll never look back.  Mere air freshners will no longer suffice.  Not even in the WC.

But of course, like with any beauty product, it's not quite as simple as walking into a store and walking out with your perfect candle.  There are choices.  Lots of choices.

  • What fragrance?
  • What type of candle - parrafin, soy or other?
  • What kind of wick?
  • What burn time best fits your needs and budget?
  • Tea light, Votive, Pillar or Jar?
  • Candle or Melt?

Now if you read that last one and thought "melt?!" allow us to enlighten you.  Candle melts are (usually) cubes of wax you place atop an oil burner.  You light a tealight underneath, allowing the melt to, well, melt, and this releases the fragrance.

So what are the benefits of a melt?

  • You can sample scents before commiting to a full candle
  • You can mix up your scents more often, rather than burning a full candle.
  • Less packaging - you won't be overrun with empty candle containers
  • You can use individual unused melts to scent areas like wardrobes, drawers and linen cupboards - the scent is that strong, even unmelted!

We're putting Aroma Addiction Soy Melts in the fragrance Papaya Punch to the test.  This 6 pack of melts has a 'hot, soft fragrance. Full of juice, like a melon, tropics. Mango & Papaya are united, passionate. Pure fruits gone mad.'  Sounds yummy right?  And to add to the wow factor, each melt has a burn time of at least 10 hours, which means the pack will scent your house for 60+ hours!  For less than $10!

If you'd like to give Aroma Addiction a go, why not tell us your experience with candles vs melts - which do you use and why?  Why would you like a spot on this trial team?  Tell us below - we might just send you a pack to report back on!

I would keen to try this. Haven't try melts before. I use candle most of the time, and will use melt if it's better than candle.

I love candles but have never used melts. They sound divine. The tropical scents appeal to me as it takes me back to a stress free time that I lived in Port Vila. Tropical fruits, vanilla and coconut all bring back wonderful memories and I find I relax instantly. Would love to try the melts please.

Im not usually a fan of candles as I'm so paranoid they will fall over and burn the carpet or worse the house. I havnt tried melts yet but from what i've heard they seem fantastic. They release such a beautiful fragrance which lasts for ages and are perfect in this damp weather. You can get some awesome bases for the melts to sit in too from what I've seen.

I only currently have candles but have recently smelt some amazing melts in spotlight and have heard that the melts can be used over and over but I need to get a melt burner. I am very fussy with the smells I like, I tend to like more sweet fruity smells and dislike floral smells.
