Dish Sponge Curls - Do they work?

13 July, 2016 - 10:39pm by - First Lady | 19 Comments

by BR Natalie.

You know those life hack videos you see on FB?  Do you ever wonder if they really work?  Well we're going to start a new thing - Beauty Myth Busters.

This week, Review Superhero Lutece tagged me in a video by @charmiejanee.

I watched it, had that same thought everyone has when watching these types of videos - is it really that easy?

Now as I recently chopped my hair short, I asked Lutece if she would give it a go for us.  And being the wonderful sweetheart she is, she did.  And here's what happened:

Looks pretty darn curly to me!

Gorgeous, soft curls.  Using dish sponges.  Mission accomplished!

But was it worth it?  Here's what Lutece said:

"In the end it was worth it, it was so uncomfortable sleeping on the sponges, next time I might cut them smaller to make the curls smaller, they were super easy to put in and take out, you just pull the sponge and it unravels which was great, I will do this again for an easy up do."

So there you go.  If you ever find yourself longing for soft curls, lacking curling tools, but owning a bulk pack of dish sponges, you'll be right.

Next time you see a beauty hack you want us (or Lutece :p ) to try, tag us in it or let us know.  This could be fun!

I am always learning something new on this site. This is seriously so cool. You are totally rocking those curls too.

Love this, those curls look gorgeous on you Lutece x So keen to give this a try.

Wow those curls look really good! I've tried dong the same with rags before using damp hair and sleeping on it, but my hair wasn't dry before I took them out in the morning so didn't really work :( Lots of hair!! I wonder if sponges would help with that. P.s. flawless makeup in these pictures also!! (especially love your eyes)

Wow haha that's pretty cool :) Don't think I would try it though

17th July, 2016

Wow that's an amazing result. Well done!

Great end results!

Oh yes I watched a YouTube clip last week on curling your hair that way and thought that was an awesome idea! That's great it work and looks beautiful on Lutece! Might have to give it ago when my hair is shorter.

This is cool idea. I want to give it go. I don't like hot tool for curl hair. Just thinking how uncomfortable sleep if you do it.

14th July, 2016

When I was young my Grandmother wrapped my hair in strips of cloth and I would sleep in them, in the morning she would take them out and I had ringlets! I remember it hurting a bit but I totally I loved my hair.

I'm old enough to remember the sponger curlers and yes they worked but not comfortable so I feel your pain.

14th July, 2016

This looks so good!

14th July, 2016

Thank you Beauty review, these were so fun to do but so uncomfortable to sleep with. I hope others try these as well :)

I've been meaning to try some of the heatless ways of straightening and curling hair. I'll keep this technique in mind.

14th July, 2016

Never tried this before. Im sceptical that it would work on my hair because its so thick.

14th July, 2016

Wow! I want to try this... couple of questions: dish sponges? - these are not the ones with the green scouring thingee on them tho? Do you put something in the sponges before wrapping your hair around? Why does she have a bowl?? How well do the curls last? all day?

Its up to you what kind of sponges you use, I think its because theyre soft and easy to roll which is why they use them? The bowl is just for a prop I would say. If you wrap your hair the night before you can do it dry,

If youre wanting them done a few hours before its best to dampen the hair, and depending on what kind of hair you have will determine how long your hair will last like that :) I have thin fine hair and these last 2-3 days, I hope these help :)

thanks Lutece - fantastic idea testing "life-hacks" I have a lot of hair, but I'm going to try this - yes I also have a hair curling machine, but I hate allowing 40 mins in the morning for it. I'd rather be sleeping while my hair was curling!

Goodluck Qweenkaren, you have gorgeous hair! Ive been testing out a few heatless ideas just to give my hair a break from heated tools, my poor hair has suffered, I hope you post pics to show us :) xxx

Awww thats so cute! They do look beautiful when they come out, it reminds me of the movie, the little princess, so beautiful <3

Please post pics if you do, If you cut the sponges up and make them smaller when you roll them it should give you a better nights rest, it was uncomfortable sleeping with sponges but the end result was worth it X
