Crystallized - Rainbow Eyes

The Rainbow Highlighter from BitterLaceBeauty has made rainbow makeup the latest craze, so here is another rainbow look for you to have fun playing with.

To create this look, I start with Plantae’s Avocado Pear Eye Contour Cream, followed by Bee Sensual’s Day Cream 5 minutes later.

While letting these products absorb into may face, I start on the eye. I put on the Art Deco Eyeshadow Base to get as much pigmentation out of the eyeshadows as possible and then apply the rainbow colours using Chi Chi’s O.M.F.G palette.

I started with red shadow in the inner corner of my eye, using a small stiff eye shadow brush (mine is part of a travel brush set from Kmart) or a sponge applicator from the palette. The width of each shadow is slightly wider than the standard sponge applicator held vertically. The red and the orange I always apply with a brush, and usually the rest of the colours as well, but sometimes the sponge packs on the colour better, particularly the yellow. To apply the colours I use up and down dabbing motions, as sideways motions can result in colours blending. There can be a bit of fallout however, so I would recommend doing your foundation after you eye shadow. I try to fit the whole rainbow onto my eye which is 7 colours: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple and pink. Sometimes only 6 fit however, so then I use pink as a lip colour or to blend out colours in the crease.

Once I’ve got all the colours on my lid I then move onto the eyeliner. For the bottom lid I use Essence’s Long Lasting Eye Pencil in Black Fever, then I use the same eyeliner on the top lid before going over the top lid liner with ZA’s black Liquid Eyeliner to try and make the line look a bit smoother and sharper (if your eyeliner is always perfect, skip this step), followed by black mascara, which here is the ZA Perfect Action Smudgeproof one.

Then I do a quick clean-up of any fall out or mascara marks before blending with the light shimmery shade from the O.M.F.G palette, blending from the crease line to the brow with the Colour Couture Eyeshadow Brush. Blending along the crease line also blends out any excess rainbow colours.

I then apply the Rimmel Stay Matte Primer over my face (excluding the eyes) followed by Living Nature’s concealer in any spots I need to (often nose, chin and under the eyes) and let that set for a few seconds. Then apply my usual foundation, which at the moment is the Maybelline Super Stay 24HR Foundation, which I apply using the Beauty Blender. After letting that set I then dust Rimmel’s Stay Matte Pressed Powder over my face with the E.L.F. Kabuki Brush.

I then lightly brush and colour in my brows using the SAX Essential Brow Kit, then because I don’t have a contouring kit at the moment, I also use it to contour my face; using the brown shadow on the hollow of my cheeks, the sides of my nose, the sides of my forehead and along the edge of my chin. I then use the highlighter on the centre of my forehead, the tops of my cheekbones and down the middle of my nose and chin. I also use the Maybelline Fit Me Blush on my cheeks between the highlight and shadow shades. I apply the contouring and blusher with the Cameo Contouring Brush.

Then to finish off I apply lipstick. As with this look I got all the colours onto my lid, I chose to use a darker red lipstick to draw out the red as the red and orange eyeshadow do look quite similar, but If I didn’t get the pink or purple onto my lid I would use those as the lip colour. The darker red was actually formed by using Maybelline’s Super Stay 14HR Lipstick in Ravishing Rouge and then going over it with SAX’s Sheer Lip Colour Lipstick in Sheer Deep Plum.

You can cut out several products in this look. For example, I use the eye cream as a bit of a barrier cream since it’s quite a heavy look and I use the eyeshadow base to increase pigmentation. But neither are essential. Likewise, you can apply your foundation with your fingers instead of a beauty blender (which I still do on days when I’m short on time – so most days). And of course you could just use one lipstick. But I find the extras just add a bit of comfort and texture to the look.So I hope you enjoyed reading and have fun trying the look :)

Thank you :) I actually nearly didn't put that tip in, but it makes the look so much easier, so I just went with it. Glad you liked it!

I used to wear it more often but I usually just wear two colours (usually pink and purple, purple and blue or blue and green) because that way I pick the colours that suit my skin tone and it only takes me about two minutes to apply my eyeshadow.

Thank you :) I definitely recommend this palette, but LA Girl also has a neon and a rainbow palette which are pretty good.
