I am of the firm belief that in every car’s glovebox there should be a manual for the car (because you never know when you’re going to need it), a First Aid kit just in case, and a mini beauty kit. I know, I know, that’s what a handbag’s for. But sometimes you don’t need or want to carry a handbag complete with a makeup bag jammed with product. Sometimes you just want to slip your license and money cards into your pocket, grab your keys and go. But you can be sure that the time you go all basic will be the one time when your lippy fades, or your face goes oily, or you realise you’re a bit stinky, and you’re stuck without any products to sort yourself out with.
So what should this kit contain? Well, not as much as a handbag kit might. Just a few basics that’ll see you through any dramas for a couple of hours until you’re in the vicinity of your stash again.
Lips gone patchy and you forgot to bring yours along with you for touch-ups? Eyeliner smudged all of a sudden? Foundation patched or oxidised? A pack of makeup wipes can tidy up any messes quick as a flash. Another option is to decant some micellar water into a little bottle and put it, along with makeup pads or cotton balls, into a sealable bag.
Speaking of lipstick that’s gone a bit skewiff. Sometimes a streaky mess can be blended out and made to look decent again with a little tinted lipbalm, so it’s good to have a coloured balm in your kit as well. It can also be used when your lips are feeling less than luxurious, or when you realise you forgot to put lippy on and you’re looking less pulled together than you’d like.
Has your carefully styled hair gone haywire? Add some hairpins and a hair tie into your stash and you’ll always have the ability to tidy up your tresses. Oh, and if your hair has the habit of going from fresh as a daisy to absolute oil slick, it can’t hurt to have a travel sized dry shampoo come along for the ride too.
Sunscreen. No ifs, buts or maybes. You need to have sunscreen in your kit. You never know when you might find yourself out and about for longer than expected, whether that be for a spur of the moment shopping trip, or an unexpected spot of exercise, or when you pop into a friends house and they decide it’s a good day to sit outside. Don’t get caught short, your skin and potentially your health will thank you for it.
You’ll also want to find a mini-deodorant, because we all know that moment when you’re out and about, lift your arms for a second and catch the scent of something stinky, and then realise you can’t do anything about it and the rest of the world is going to have to deal with your aroma. Well, if there’s a mini-deo in your car they won’t have to. And you won’t have to keep your arms glued to your sides like a robot.
Last of all? Peppermints or mints or one of those Listerine Pocketpaks are an absolute must, because there is nothing beautiful ever about bad breath. If you’ll be getting up close to others and you’ve been eating something less than deliciously scented, pop a mint in your mouth, and you’re good to go.
So do tell… do you have a beauty kit for your car? Have you thought about creating one? Are you thinking about creating one now? What must-haves are already or would be in yours? Chat away!
