Behold the Body Serum

Cleanse, serum, moisturiser.  That’s my twice-daily skincare routine for my face. Sometimes I’ll also exfoliate, apply a mask, and at night there’s always a touch of eye cream, sometimes in the morning too if I’ve not slept well and the bags under my eyes look big enough to carry my wallet and cellphone. Yep, on the whole I feel pretty good about how I care for my face. If only I cared for the whole of my body that well.

My body’s skincare routine? Cleanse. That’s it. Soooometimes I’ll spy that big bottle of in-shower moisturiser and slather that on, and once every month or two I’ll break out the Bossy Coffee Scrub. No wonder my legs and arms are dry, and no wonder the skin on my chest is starting to look lined, especially in the cleavage area. Not pretty.
It makes me wonder, is it time to take my skincare to the next level? Is it time to look after all of my skin as well as I do the skin on my face? Is it time to not only cleanse and moisturize (every day), but should I be adding a serum in there as well?

I can hear skincare specialists all over the world screaming ‘yes’.

People have cottoned onto the fact that after a while your usual body moisturiser isn’t going to smooth and plump as well as it did, nor will it help fix some of the less fun parts that can occur over the passage of time, such as sun spots, stretch marks and cellulite. Yep, body serums are the hot new thing and women worldwide are soaking them up.

So what kind of serums are out there, and what do they claim to do?

If you’re waking up to more and more wrinkles there are serums, like Clarins Renew Body Plus Serum, that offer the cell-renewing benefits of Vitamin A, which works to restore smoothness, firmness too.

If your skin is in need of a moisture boost you can try a serum like Verité Spa’s Vanilla and Moroccan Rose Multivitamin Body Serum.

If cellulite’s your worry pick up a serum designed to restore and smooth your skin, like Murad’s Firm and Tone Serum.

You can even get serums that care for your body while caring for your emotional wellbeing. Decléor’s Aromessence Spa Relax Relaxing Body Serum is designed to nourish your body while relaxing you thanks to a combination of essential oils.

Vaseline Intensive Care has also created a range of serums, ranging from skin-calming to radiance restoring. This budget friendly range doesn’t look like it’s hit our shores yet, but here’s hoping!

So tell me, am I alone in my slackness? Does your skincare routine include your whole body? Or are you like me and a little lax? Are you tempted to add a serum into your skincare or are you happy with simply using an everyday moisturiser?

This is the first I've heard of a body serum but it makes sense. This would be particularly good for your skin in winter as mine is quite dry at the moment. I love the vanilla And morrocan Rose serum by verite.

If it work on the face why not the body too... totally makes sense :) I kind of like body butters though for an added kick in moisture levels or a balm to lock in more... not sure how the serums would compare.

I always use a serum on my face and decollatage, it is amazing

I feel like I fit into every catagory here. I can identify that my skin has each provide mentioned what I'd love to try the most is serum from Verity Spa

I use serum on my face, not not my body. I really should give it a go!

The cellulite serum looks good, I have never tried a serum for the body.

I actually think I'm pretty good - I use exfoliating gloves every day, I aim for a scrub every week (during winter I go a lot longer without one, unless I use the Bossy sugar scoop scrubs), and when I do a face mask I often take it down onto my chest. I'm pretty good about moisturizing now too, I try to do it after every shower, just so I can use product up :P

Cellulite serum? Oh my lordy lord sign me up!! My orange peel body needs it ;)

Hmmm. I don't know if I believe the hype. I've been moisturising my whole body since I was 14 and it was the only way to not itch after using soap. There weren't that many bodywashes or soap alternatives back then. I think it's more about routines. If you religiously use lotion, would you really need a serum? Wouldn't an oil work just as well?

Hmm, sounds good actually. I can't say it had occurred to me to use a serum on my body. I have used some Essano Rosehip Oil with Acai Berry though on my hands and it seems to help. I think maybe something richer would be good. I agree with the 'it's too cold' comments though, been really cold here recently and that makes it harder to bear getting in the shower lol

I am pretty good all round but would love to try Verité Spa’s Vanilla and Moroccan Rose Multivitamin Body Serum. Sounds amazing.

I am very tempted to add a serum to my daily skincare routine. Now and again I casually use Trilogy's Rosehip Oil, but that is only when I remember to use it. I am finding now that we are in winter, I am needing more than just a moisturiser as my skin is super dry. All the products recommended above sound fabulous. I will now be looking at using a serum on a daily basis.

This sounds like a great idea (I wonder why this hasn't been brought out soone?!), although I'm shocking at remembering to moisturise my body, especially in this cold weather!

28th June, 2015

I've only just realized I'm looking after my face incredibly well but totally neglecting my body. I might have to look into the clarins body serum- it sounds wonderful.

27th June, 2015

I try really hard to look after my skin, all off it face and body. I haven't tried body serums as such but yes exfoliate and oil or moisturise and dry brushing. One day I just noticed the slight creepiness look off my skin then it was more than just moisturizing for me now I'm into oils and now I'll look at body serums after reading this :)
