Barely-there eyes - yay or nay?

So I was relaxing in the ultimate girly way last night - flicking through the glossies and checking out the latest catwalk looks.  Ok by flicking through the glossies I mean Vogue and Harpers Bazaar online, but come on, if me, the ultimate bookophile traded in (most of) her paperbacks for a Kindle, am I really going to buy magazines?!

Anyway, I digress.  So whilst looking at the latest fashion shows (Spring 2015, really?!) I noticed a makeup trend forming.  And I found it a little unsettling.

We're always told to focus on one thing.  If you have bold eye makeup, keep your lips simple and vice versa.  Yet the trend seen on models lately is a bold lip.  And that's it.  The eye makeup is so minimal, it's pratically invisible.  Mascara so slight it must have been applied with a touch that could tickle a butterfly. Eyeshadows that blend seamlessly in to the skin, because they're the same shade.

Now don't get me wrong - the lip on this example from Missoni is stunning.  I need to track down this shade.  But would I pair it with barely-there eyes?  By Dior, I would not.  I'd look ill.  Or on a really bad day, I'd look undead.  One absolutely must wear mascara. Yet the otherway round - say a heavy smokey eye look, I would feel very comfortable with just a slick of lip balm.  What's that about?

What do you think of this look?  Do you agree that you should only make one feature standout, or do you think your eyes always need a hint of something more? Would you rock this look as is, or would you need to oomph the eyes slightly?

Definitely not a fan of this look. She just looks unfinished to me - like they ran out of time... I don't think the eye needs to be overdone, but just a little definition would make everything pop, rather than blending in to the background

Barely there eyes would probs work if I had no lipstick on and just a hint of makeup. I feel if I'm gonna go bold then eyes are the foundation!

I've unintentionally worn this look before. Not because I had no makeup on but because my eyes are so tiny and I have hooded lids plus the really short lashes that I felt were too sparse for mascara until I gave it a go a couple weeks ago. I have worn pretty neutral eye makeup with a red lip but if I don't wear a bit more eyeliner and mascara I end up with this look. I think it looks good on the model but not so much on me. I also have had days I've only worn lippy out of the house, I grabbed my plum lippy because it was opaque and I had run out of my spf lip balm so I was trying to substitute with lipstick till I could get more.

I love my mascara and definition to the eyes too much, I even wear mascara when I'm staying at home all day :-)

I had my upper lids permanently inked early last year, and love it. can't imagine a whole season without eyeliner! Only a recent mascara convert though, so i could pass on that. Its totally a look for the young hip things :)

I try to go for a very nude approach to my eyes as I SUCK at applying eye shadow :( My mascara is usually very defined lashes plus I'm blessed with thick and long lashes too!

I don't like that old rule that you can only make one feature stand out - to me it always looks like you did half your face and forgot about the other half!! And a dark, well-defined eye is a must!

I really like this look! Will totally be rocking this myself :)

I think it would look awesome on the right person :) Some people look much better with less and can look a little clown-ish with very much make up on.

I think it's pretty and has a great impact with the lip. I don't think it's a look everyone could pull off (I, for example, could not pull it off - I'm with you, mascara MUST be there)

I really like this look. I also have to say it's my most worn 'I'm running super late, don't have time to do my eyes and look there's a bold lippy in my bag I can pop on later' look haha. I think particularly in summer it's gonna be great, so much more carefree :D

I would be too scared people would be looking at me thinking hang on a minute.. Did she run out of time to do her eyes..?? Has she run out of mascara! Great if you can pull it off tho

I actually quite like this look. I feel that it's simple and fresh, sometimes less is more. Personally though, I would use a tad more mascara and some eyeliner but other than that, I do like this trend.

On one hand, I do like it but it wouldn't look good on me at all. My eyes are my 'feature' on my face and I love making them pop hence my slow but sure addiction to eyeshadows hehe
