So I was relaxing in the ultimate girly way last night - flicking through the glossies and checking out the latest catwalk looks. Ok by flicking through the glossies I mean Vogue and Harpers Bazaar online, but come on, if me, the ultimate bookophile traded in (most of) her paperbacks for a Kindle, am I really going to buy magazines?!
Anyway, I digress. So whilst looking at the latest fashion shows (Spring 2015, really?!) I noticed a makeup trend forming. And I found it a little unsettling.
We're always told to focus on one thing. If you have bold eye makeup, keep your lips simple and vice versa. Yet the trend seen on models lately is a bold lip. And that's it. The eye makeup is so minimal, it's pratically invisible. Mascara so slight it must have been applied with a touch that could tickle a butterfly. Eyeshadows that blend seamlessly in to the skin, because they're the same shade.
Now don't get me wrong - the lip on this example from Missoni is stunning. I need to track down this shade. But would I pair it with barely-there eyes? By Dior, I would not. I'd look ill. Or on a really bad day, I'd look undead. One absolutely must wear mascara. Yet the otherway round - say a heavy smokey eye look, I would feel very comfortable with just a slick of lip balm. What's that about?
What do you think of this look? Do you agree that you should only make one feature standout, or do you think your eyes always need a hint of something more? Would you rock this look as is, or would you need to oomph the eyes slightly?
Barely-there eyes - yay or nay?
Definitely not a fan of this look. She just looks unfinished to me - like they ran out of time... I don't think the eye needs to be overdone, but just a little definition would make everything pop, rather than blending in to the background
